Yea, I typed that opinion sitting outside of the theater waiting for my girl to finish peeing.  I'm not that great at detecting and breaking down metaphor in movies; I'm pretty literal.  But after she broke down some of the symbolism and the overall msg, it made a lot more sense.  

I was just reading reviews on google last night and most of the low reviews also didn't get the overall theme/msg which leads to a wtf was that crap feeling.

Kinda enjoyed this and agree with your rating. Worth a watch but not must watch. 

 
We watched The Deep House which was damn good thru 2 acts and the 3rd and final act just fizzled for us. Not a bad movie. Good creep factor. But it kinda ran outta steam.

Finally got around to watching this one and have to say I like it. Slow burn kind of slasher flick with some interesting plot departures. I will definitely see Pearl when it’s released. 4/5

 
Nope was entertaining to me. I do not feel it is great but it was entertaining. The "message" was not very subtle.

After Us, this was the thing that made me hesitant to be too excited about his next movie.   I didn't love Get Out near as much as most, but at least that was fun and there was a bit of subtly to some of the things going on.  I felt like Us tried way too hard with having a social message.

I am in agreement about Get Out. It was an entertaining flick but I did not understand all the love. I agree with the message in Nope and that may be why it did not bother me, although I would have liked some subtleness. I don't want to spoil anything so I wont get specific but I liked some of the special effects quite a bit.

 
Unearthed 

Poor farmers getting poorer finally sell out to oil leasing and unearth something bad. Almost everyone dies. 2/5

 
The Blackwell Ghost

There 5 of these documentaries (they’re not), with a sixth one on the way, about a filmmaker who explores 2 haunted houses and unravels their stories. The first one is compelling until it’s not. The rest is more of the same and mostly unbelievable. Interesting concept for sure. 3/5
 
Titane

WTF did I just watch? Kind of had a Martyrs-lite vibe in some scenes. Ugh. French horror/suspense film about a messed up woman who has a titanium plate in her head she got as a child after a car accident. Another movie I won’t watch again. 2.75/5

Have you seen Raw? That was her first movie.
 
Had insomnia last night and was goofing around on Tubi and settled on Nightwing, 1979. The recently deceased David Warner is one of the stars, and it's about killer vampire bats a Native American police officer and some guy (Warner) who really, really, really hates vampire bats team up to destroy. At 2am it made for fun viewing but the effects are clownish.

After it was over Tubi recommended Tentacles (1977), which is basically like Nightwing except with an Octopus swimming around murdering and eating its way through California residents. Was a bit shocked to see Henry Fonda, John Huston, Shelley Winters in this schlockfest. Still, I enjoyed it for what it was, though I couldn't recommend it for anyone who doesn't like these types of b-grade horror flicks. For me, they remind me of when I was a kid and the monsters looked much realer and I was genuinely frightened by many of them.

The success of Jaws created this whole sub-genre for a few years where animals were used as the killers, and films like the above and Orca, The Bees, The Swarm (also about Bees) , Grizzly etc. were released one after another and I ate them up as a wide-eyed kid who knew all of these plotlines and murderous creatures were totally plausible.
 
Watched Glorious last night. It was entertaining but having JK Simmons as the voice kind of took me out of it. I kept waiting for the "God" to sell farmers insurance. A nice run time of 70 mins.
 
Not really a horror movie but if you're anti-height at all The Fall will freak you the heck out.

I'm not even that bothered by heights but I was squirming for the first half of the movie until I got used to the views.

The movie isn't half bad either.

huh interesting, I had written this movie off as schlock. Maybe I was to hasty. I was looking for a movie to see last week. I ended up not finding anything that interested me. This was one of the choices.
 
Watched both Orphan (2009) and it's prequel Orphan: First Kill the other night. Wow. Both good flicks. I would say First Kill is a little disjointed at times but overall an enjoyable horror flick.
 
Trilogy of Terror

This movie is from 1975 starring Karen Black. It’s 3 vignettes with the first two being extremely dull. The third one involves a Zuni fetish doll come to life and terrorizes Black’s character in her apartment. It’s not supposed to be funny, but honestly I :lmao: at the sound effects for the little Zuni doll cruising around not to mention the absurdity of it all (e.g. Zuni doll cutting himself out of a suitcase). I’m not saying go out and get this right away, but if it’s out there, check out the third vignette. Funny af imo. 2/5

The doll one is so great, my wife HATED his noises, so naturally I made it my text message alert for a few months after we watched it. I tried it as my alarm, but even I couldn't stand that.

I saw this on the telly when it first broadcasted. Freaking love that crazy Zuni doll to this day.
Zero chance I'd ever want one. Even a replica.
If I did, it'd go immediately into the microwave (not waiting for the oven to warm up), set it for 3/4 of a millennium on high and promptly put the place up "for steal" OBO.

Been a minute since I've posted anything new here, but I have to mention one I saw maybe a week ago.

What Josiah Saw probably leans more into suspense/horror rather than pure horror, but it is a ride. Not to spoil anything, it's about three siblings who have to return to their long-time family home to try and agree on whether or not to sell it. Family history and recent events come together in a mind-bending fashion.

It's pretty heady and requires attention, but I find myself thinking about it still today. If you like mind-bending type movies, this comes highly recommended. For me, 4.25/5 approaching 4.5/5.
 
The Perfection

This was a rough one to get through on account of how bad it is. Not compelling to me. I think it could have been executed a lot better, but whatever. 2/5
 
The Bunker Game

Not sure how I stumbled across this movie, but it’s not so good. Larpers get evacuated from their game bunker, staff is left behind, and get killed off by a ghost. Skip it. 1.75/5

OMG this movie. I remember renting this with a buddy when we were in like 7th grade and we were like WTF is happening, how the hell could the guy at the video store rent this to twelve year olds? I should probably revisit.

i watched sisterhood of the traveling pants and it was pretty effen horiffic take that to the bank bromigos

I finally got around to watching my bluray yesterday, and I am still thinking about this one. That was a movie. Also with you and going to be checking out Pearl - I didn't know until listening to a podcast that the main girl played both roles. Impressive.
 
Starting to gear up and try to plan for this year's 30 in 30 for October. Each year I have fewer and fewer movies I've never seen that I want to catch up with, but started looking through and making a list. I think this year I will have to knock out more foreign ones or catch up with movies like Hereditary or Martyrs that I have been putting off rewatches of.

I also just ordered a bluray of Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon and Tucker and Dale vs. Evil for the month. Those are starting to become damn near yearly watches with other newer one like Cabin in the Woods and Trick 'r Treat.
 
I will say that at the very least X is incredibly well directed and has a couple of the more interesting killers I've seen in a horror movie in some time. 100% didn't see where that movie was going, and wish there are some things my eyes could unsee. :lol:

Ravenous (1999)

Think I love this movie. Really fun watch. Horror western with Guy Pierce starring and Robert Carlyle creeping me the F out. Excellent cast and soundtrack. Roger Ebert enjoyed it, and that guy knew things.

I always loved this movie. Don't know what it is about it, but just a creepy, weird movie.

We saw Barbarian. There were three other people in the entire XD theater. it was good. I liked it because it was different and going in cold, was a complete must. Good afternoon popcorn movie.
