FFA Official Horror Movie Thread Catching up on Shudder and Various Streaming Platforms (9 Viewers)

I had to tap out from the Nightmare movies after 4 1/2. I couldn't bring myself to attempt Part 6.

I'm going to finish off the month with a few favorites I have on 4K disc. Last night was The Thing since my wife dislikes that movie. Yep, still a 10/10 movie. Tonight will be Carrie or Texas Chainsaw.

Double Feature tonight, could use a lil' help deciding:

1
Alien / The Thing (favorite all time sci-fi horror DF but almost boring at this point been done so many times)

2
World War Z / Cloverfield (PG-13 sci-fi horror, I like both far more than their reviews)

3
American Werewolf in London / Bram Stoker's Dracula (been a long time with either of these)

4
The Ritual (Netflix) / Apostle (Folk horror, love The Ritual)

5
Texas Chainsaw Massacre / X (slasher, TCM messed me up more than any other film as a kid)

Anyone have a preference?

I would go: 4, 1, 5 ..... 2, 3.

I have been digging the folk horror the last couple years, so that got a bump. 2 and 3 each have a movie i dont care for fwiw.

1 - I agree in that I dont feel like I need to rewatch these.
2 - World War Z is underrated. Cloverfield is good but I liked the sequel better.
3 - There are a few Dracula movies I'd watch over Bram Stoker's.
4 - I like folk horror, but these aren't my favorites. I'd put things like The Medium, The Wailing, Wicker Man, or Midsommar over these.
5 - TCM is always good fun. This is pretty good as a double feature.

Of those, I'd rank them 2, 5, 1, 3, 4 in terms what I feel like watching.

I would vote 3 or 5

Not a fan of Bram's Drac. I'd personally go with a Fright Night or Lost Boys type 80s movie with Werewolf in London myself.

I was leaning towards TCM tonight, but Franklin is such a tough hang. Hell would be me stuck with him and Shelly from Friday 3 for more than 30mins.

27th - The Black Phone 2 (theater) - I'm a pretty big fan of the first one, but this one is pretty different. This is a flawed analogy but it's like BP2 is to A Nightmare on Elm Street as BP1 is to Freddy's backstory, so it's approach is very different from the first. I do appreciate that gamble instead of a retread. The Grabber is gone but his spirit lives on. As in Nightmare, dreams play a very big role in this sequel, which was barely the case in the original. This one was a real mixed bag - some things really worked but quite a few things didn't quite hit Overall, I do recommend this but only after seeing the original, as there is a lot that won't resonate if you haven't. Grade B

Due to time, I gave up on watching the Halloween movies in any special order. Threw on the DGG 2018 Halloween for the first time. I like the idea of ignoring the previous sequels. This was pretty good until exccept the twist with the doctor was super dumb and something you would hae expected to see in the previous run of sequels. I sure do question how they squeezed 2 more movies from this though. I realized the one thing that every movie after 3 misses: Dean Cundy. The fact that one of the great cinematographers filmed 1-3, giving them such a unique look was probably the real secret sauce. All the others are missing it. That said, this one basically deliers what I wanted.

Also watched several Vincent Price classics like

House on Haunted Hill
Wax Museum
The Haunted Palace
House of Usher
The Pit and the Pendulum
The Masque of Red Death
The Last Man on Earth
I love his movies so much, no matter how bad or schlocky, they nearly always entertain me. House of Usher and Witchfinder General were my new Price watches this year that made a big impression.
The Abominable Dr. Phibes was pretty creepy.

Last night I also got in The Most Dangerous Game since it’s only an hour. It’s from one of the same directors as King Kong and does a good job capturing the creepy island atmosphere. I have seen it before but liked it a lot more than I remembered. I love the atmosphere and it has a great pair of villains. My only complaint is I don’t like the change they made to the ending. I get why they did it but still think it’s a lesser ending. It’s on Max right now. That puts me at 27 so I just might be able to hit 31 on Halloween night.

It’s sequel is pretty crazy too. Really freaked me out as a kid.

Zombie movies are my favorite sub-genre of horror and even though I'm in the old school "slow zombie" camp, I still like both 28 Days & Weeks Later. I thought 28 Years Later was a decent post-apocalypse movie but not a very good zombie movie. Very cool visually with good sound and solid acting but the ending was so bad that I don't think I can watch another one if that's what we'll be getting a lot of.
