FFA Wagering Thread: THERE HE IS!@! (4 Viewers)

Odd night for SEC Hoops...I already posted my thoughts about Texas A&M being a play. Line has gone from +1 to -1.5 back to +1. At -1.5, I was concerned line would go past -2, so I bought. With the latest move, I've bought double on the ML -105...In other action:Florida @ Georgia: If it weren't for a '2' in the loss column, I think Florida might be ranked #1, and IMO, at full strength, they are the best Team in the nation. I'm not sure folks realize yet the HUGE gap between Florida, and to some degree Ole Miss and Missouri, (and likely Kentucky by the end of the season) and the rest of the SEC, but it's massive, especially the likes of South Carolina, LSU, Vanderbilt and Georgia. Of those 4, Georgia is the best of a bad bunch, simply because they have the best single player on all those rosters combined in Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. No one should read ANYTHING into Georgia's home win over LSU on Saturday. That was like bad beating worse. It's my opinion that this Florida Team knows they have a loss to make up when compared to the other top National Teams, and they aren't going to take the foot off the gas right now. The spot to catch them in is going to be the home game vs South Carolina January 30, before hosting Ole Miss. The tough thing is the 15.5 spread here, weird things happen on the road in the SEC, and Florida could be creaming the Bulldogs early enough that they succumb to the backdoor cover. IMO, the talent gap is just too wide, but I don't trust the situation. No play, LEAN Florida...Auburn @ Vanderbilt: It's awfully tough to win on the road, especially in the SEC...Auburn coming off a drubbing at the hands of Kentucky, but a look inside that game reveals a team that relies on the 3 that had their worst shooting night of the season, and not because of some stellar Kentucky shooting defense, but simply because the law of averages dictates that on some nights, the shots just aren't going to fall. Vandy won on the road @ South Carolina, but again, this was a case of bad beating worse. Vandy is at home, though, and while they are a young inexperienced squad, their strength is their 3-point shooting. I think this line reflects recent results and doesn't look inside the #'s, and there's no way they should be catching points here. Auburn gets their touch back tonight, and their veteran experience carries the day. I'm only in for .5 u, but I'm in. Auburn ML +160. Small, though. Small.Still working on Arkansas.Tailing TCU UNDER. Bought in at 116.5, 1u...Good Luck!

If you can still get the Rangers as a dog for tomorrow night against the Flyers, grab it while you can.
Rangers play tonight. Books offer up lines a game in advance?
I was able to with my old guy. :shrug:Schenn suspended, Hartnell out indefinitely, more call ups spells trouble.
I didn't know Hartnell was hurt. Probably get Biron tomorrow but Rangers look good tonight so I bet it. Thanks.

KAPOLEI, Hawaii -- Ripping off jokes like he was doing the opening monologue on Saturday Night Live, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was feeling it Tuesday evening. He was back where he belongs, in front of his peers, here at the Pro Bowl, right in his element.

Yet as Manning stood in front of a ballroom full of the NFL's best players (30 of whom, as he pointed out, are at the game for the first time), Manning wasn't just being funny during this welcome meeting. He also had a very sharp message.

"The past two years, the play in this game has been unacceptable," Manning said. "If it was a walkthrough, your coach would say it was a bad walkthrough. And that's why (the league) could try to cancel this game."

When practices begin Wednesday, there is expected to be a very different tone, especially emanating from the AFC's team, in the wake of much public discourse about the future of the NFL's All-Star game.

Commissioner Roger Goodell has made it clear that the current quality of the game doesn't meet the league's standard, and a rewarding week enjoyed by the NFL's best players is in jeopardy. The players now recognize there's one way to fix this.

"It's simple," Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey told NFL.com. "Just play hard. Like you do on a Sunday. If you do that, the rest will take care of itself."

Whether that's enough to truly save this game (and, perhaps as importantly, this event) remains to be seen. But if ever there was a year in which the right formula to save the Pro Bowl was in place, this might very well be it.

Manning and Bailey are two of just 10 players in NFL history to make 12 or more Pro Bowls. Manning has the most Pro Bowl berths among quarterbacks, and Bailey has the most among defensive backs. And it just so happens that their current coach, John Fox, has been assigned to coach the AFC this week.

Fox and Manning met over beers Sunday evening, with NFC quarterback Eli Manning also present, to discuss their intent to take things up a notch (or three) during practices. And since both men are very capable of balancing a good time with some hard work, they might very well be the right people to pull this off.

Bailey, for one, was glad Manning also addressed it with both the AFC and the NFC present in the ballroom Tuesday, setting an expectation for the week.

"(Manning's talk) meant a lot because I think we do get over here and get relaxed," Bailey said. "The sense of urgency leading up to the game isn't there. It takes something like that to get you going, to understand the importance of it. I get it. We should play hard."

While some fans might continue to dismiss this rallying cry as a pointless effort to keep alive a game that doesn't satisfy the masses, this is much more about an internal desire among players to sustain a tradition that's important to some veterans, like Manning.

As Manning noted during his speech, his weeks at the Pro Bowl have afforded him the chance to play with seven players already in the Hall of Fame and six coaches who have won Super Bowls, all of which has benefitted him in his career.

"Peyton said it best," Bailey said. "The players who have played in this game are in the Hall of Fame. If they get rid of this game, guys are going to miss out. You won't even know who you played against because you never get a chance to meet them. It's good for that reason and many others."

Manning's talk on Tuesday was directed very specifically toward the players in the room -- not toward the public masses. It was intended to be heard by rookies like quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson and young defensive players like J.J. Watt. Those are the players who will be around for the next decade. Those are the guys that would be carrying this tradition forward.

Maybe it's a good thing many of these faces are new to this game, because the quality of play last year truly was terrible, as many players agreed.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, for one, was disgusted by the lack of intensity in that game. While his knee is giving him enough issues to provide a legitimate reason for him to sit this year out, last year's experience certainly didn't help. It's also a reason why Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said he plans to play hard this year -- so hard that he'd like to be the game's MVP.

So without question, the tone has been set. Will it matter? Will it be enough to convince Goodell to keep the game in Hawaii for years to come? We'll see. But if this indeed is the last Pro Bowl, these players plan on making it a good one.

"It's a really nice atmosphere, and it's great for relaxing," Bailey said. "But you've got to understand why you're here, and I think guys have gotten away from that, for whatever reason.

"We've got to get back to the way it should be."
Betting market agrees, opened afc +3, afc is now favored. Moving off 3 in this game not a big deal but still a 4 pt move already.
Hey lump... if there's two things I'm an expert on, it's porn and Pro Bowls. If Manning's pep talk had anything to do with the line move, it's faulty logic. There's not much handicapping involved in Pro Bowls, except to lean towards the squad with the better QBs.

AFC: Manning, Luck, Schaub

NFC: Brees, Manning, Wilson

NFC at a virtual Pick 'em with a pretty good edge at QB looks appealing. There not a chance in hell Peyton plays very long. I know it's highly unlikely, but IF he injures his neck again in the friggin Pro Bowl, there will be hell to pay.

But Peterson is the key. He only knows one speed: 100mph. Just like after his rookie year when he gained about 400 yards in this game and walked away with the MVP, nobody is going to want to tackle him.

The NFC's receivers are also way, way better than the AFC's.

Miss. St. @ Arkansas: You have to feel sorry for these Bulldogs. They're so banged up, they can't even hold a proper practice right now. Arkansas is Good Dr. Jekyll at home, well nigh unbeatable. They're headed to South Carolina after this game, so it's not like they'll get caught looking ahead, and they performed as expected on Saturday, going Mr. Hyde on the road at Ole' Miss. What SHOULD happen in this game is that the Hogs come out running and pressing, and tire out the shallow and weak Bulldogs early and start running away with this. Then, we have to worry about them going into coast mode and getting backdoored...14.5 is a big #. The thing that makes it tempting is that Arkansas is deep enough to get guys on the court who will continue to run and press late in the game. Miss. St. has such a thin roster, every single player on the team could be too tired to put any effort in, and just plain give up. Here's what it comes down to. What little good Miss. St. has is in the form of G Jalen Steele, and he hurt his leg on Saturday, and had to sit out most of the 2nd half @ Tennessee. Without him, a bad team is worse, and this is the 2nd of two straight road games for the 'dogs. I just don't see it...but this SPREAD...the hell with it. Blowout for .5u, but not recommending anyone tail this.Good Luck, and Gig 'em AGGIES!

I think Enroth is starting, fwiw
I consider goalies for totals but not always for sides. Thanks for the heads up, still like the dog play though.

Only reason I mention is bc the line might move against Buf. I assume people will like a home team vs backup but Enroth started out great last year and can certainly win with as bad as the Canes have looked.

Agree that probably happens, might double up then. Obviously playing overnight lines has its advantages and disadvantages, I've had some good luck with line movements thus far. Over the course of a season I think it's usually 60/40 in my favor, but when I go on bad runs that coincide with line moves, I will go away from them for awhile. My head is clearest in the evening though, more than just the line movements in play for me.

Do you have any idea how much money Jim and John could win if they rigged the Super Bowl? Good Lord.Get about five trusted people to make a myriad of bets up and down the strip. Spread, total, props... you name it.The only limitation is how much cash they could both come up with.

Let me explain... I'll watch anything by Parker and stone but the pricing for this show was crazy... Two premium (only ones they had left) tickets ended up being $700+. Thanks for the spotted pig recommendation.
