FFA Wagering Thread: THERE HE IS!@! (15 Viewers)

Some shrewd or lucky bettors are celebrating big in Vegas after betting Norfolk State on the moneyline against Missouri. The Spartans were +4,000 at the LVH SuperBook to win outright (although some lucky bettors got them at 45-1, as seen in the image to the right, courtesy of @MoneyMetalBets on Twitter).Norfolk State won 86-84 as a 21.5-point underdog, becoming the largest dog in NCAA tournament history to win. They also became the fifth No. 15 seed to win a game in the NCAA tournament.SuperBook director Jay Kornegay told Covers.com that the book took “a handful” of straight bets on the MEAC champs. He said he did not know the amounts offhand.“We finally get an underdog to come in, and this is what happens,” Kornegay said. “It kind of sums up how our March Madness is going so far.”Derek Daniels, Joe Gittens and Quang Nguyen were among those who took a flier on the Spartans. The three buddies, who go to Las Vegas for the opening days of the NCAA tournament every year, each threw in $40 on Norfolk at 45-to-1 odds."We were looking for a big long-shot to bet, and the odds on Norfolk State seemed too high,” Daniels told Covers.com in an email. “Everybody near the counter laughed when we made the bet...including ourselves. We still can't believe it hit."Missouri was the No. 2 seed in the West Region, pegged at 2-to-1 to win the region. Top-seeded Michigan State was listed at 9-to-5. Norfolk State opened at 3000-to-1 to take the region."It will affect everybody's odds," Kornegay said. "I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but obviously when one of the biggest threats is out, it certainly betters your odds."No. 2-seeded Duke became the next heavyweight to fall, losing 75-70 to Lehigh as 11-point favorites. The Mountain Hawks, who became the sixth No. 15 seed to win in the tourney, were +650 on the moneyline.Todd Fuhrman, senior sports analyst for Caesars Entertainment, said Duke's elimination means that "the bottom will fall out" of Kentucky's odds to win the South Region. The effect will be less dramatic in the West, Fuhrman said."Michigan State still has major obstacles," he said. "Marquette, Louisville and New Mexico all are formidable opponents."
Tomorrow's ML parlay:UNC/Kansas/Xavier/South FloridaPays 3 to 1

Red Wings going to OT. 27 shots so far. Let's keep it to 4 or less, fellas.
either way, good call. I am sure most would have assumed that was going over. The only other SOG i picked today was TB under. Hard catching up on the whole season, but I am getting there a little bit. I am looking at taking maybe a couple tomorrow, not sure yet.

First game of the day: Northern Iowa @ Drexel (-7.5)

Drexel was 3 points away from making the Tournament, losing to VCU in the Colonial Championship Game. They were also the 1st Team out when the field was released, and it could be credibly argued that they got jobbed. They played like they have a chip on their shoulder, whipping Central Florida by 24 in the opening round. Northern Iowa was a 5 seed in the MVC who had a disappointing season, and barely got by St. Joe's.

I really want to start today off with a W, like I did with Robert Morris yesterday,so I'm buying this down to 6 (-145), but that's just me playing stupid mind games with myself. Drexel should pound the Panthers and advance.

Good Luck!

1u Georgetown -4. Lockdown Defense and Princeton offense slowly chokes the life out of the Wolfpack. N.C. State needs to play at their best to have a chance here, and I'm going to say that they've been doing a ton of that lately, and sooner or later, they're going to regress. I think the style that the Hoyas play can hastens that regression, and this will be one of the easier covers today. I may bump this up before tipoff.

marquette +1500 to win the tourney :bag:

ML parlaying probably be better, they'll be favorites in the next game and then prob dogs after that unless louisville can bounce MSU

Thoughts on the rest of the games:

#9 St. Louis vs #1 Michigan State (-7) @ Columbus, OH - This one makes me nervous. No play.

#8 Creighton vs #1 North Carolina (-8.5) @ Greensboro, NC - Leaning Carolina.

#14 Norfolk State vs #7 Florida (-14.5) @ Omaha, NEB - I love Florida, I hate 14.5.

#13 Ohio U. vs #12 South Florida (-2, moving down from 2.5), @ Nashville, TN - betting Ohio U., just deciding how much. Both teams play ugly basketball, but Ohio has the potential to put up more offense than South Florida.

#15 Lehigh vs #10 Xavier (-4, moving up from -3.5), @ Greensboro, NC - betting Xavier, probably my biggest play of the day. Great story for Lehigh, but experience wins out here, and the Musketeers get back to the Sweet 16.

#10 Purdue vs #2 Kansas (-8) @ Omaha, NEB - Kansas in a walkover. Purdue has no answer for Kansas' bigs.

#6 Cincinnati vs #3 Florida State (-2) - Like the NM/Louisville game last night, I hope to be sitting pretty by the end of the day so I can just sit back and watch this one, and don't have to play it.

Still have a lot of thinking to do...

Good Luck!

Here's an interesting one in the CIT, with MAAC Conference rivals squaring off today.

Manhattan @ Fairfield (-5). Loyola, MD won the Conference regular season by beating Manhattan, which pushed the Jaspers down to the 3 seed, where they were upset by Siena. Fairfield was the 4 seed, who beat Iona to get to the Championship, where they lost to Loyola, MD. These two are about as evenly matched as could be, so I think -5 is too high. This ought to be a nail-biter that goes down to the last shot. I'll take the dog, but just for S&G money to have something out there...

Dang dude.. :unsure:After seeing Umass go crazy yesterday in the NIT tourney and win SU, I thought there might be some value in big chalk NIT dogs going forward, but decided to just stay away.GL with this.

Going to give a look at Iowa (+8) @ Oregon, 5PM in the NIT. Eight seems like an awful lot, even with the Hawkeyes traveling. Big 10 was that superior compared to the PAC 10 this year...if I do play it, it won't be for much, though.

feel like i have to have something on the flyers game today. a couple of variables in this one, and it looks like some have already hit the props already, but let's try:

Flyers un30.5 shots -105

#13 Ohio U. vs #12 South Florida (-2, moving down from 2.5), @ Nashville, TN - betting Ohio U., just deciding how much. Both teams play ugly basketball, but Ohio has the potential to put up more offense than South Florida.Good Luck!
if i remember correctly, doesn't south florida start slow and get better as the game goes on a lot? would make sense to go Ohio 1st half, USF 2nd half, maybe?

You remember correctly. That's their M.O. (dogg) for sure

South Florida starts slow... And ends slow.

That's the way I'd play it, but it's not a great play.

thanks for the feedback. there are so many variables in this game (both teams playing yesterday, both teams know each other very well, Flyers blow in day games, etc.) and this game can go a bunch of different ways. i wanted to ride the total under train in recent Flyers games, but backed out at the last minute

thanks (and tjn as well). i actually was going to PM you a week or so ago because i ended up dragging my old ### out and went out in center city. went to this place Jolly's, which was horrendous (not my cup of tea. good to go like once every 4-5 years or something).

I'm on my phone so can't easily check, but the 1st half under has to be hitting really well lately in USF games. I know USF ND went over due to some freaky shooting, but off top of my head Cincy Cal WVU Temple were under

that's a good call too. it is 52.5 which is pretty low, but if i can be up by the time it comes around i may give it a shot

I don't know much about Ohio. They did beat Michigan who wasn't that good away from home. But SF slowed temple down to a snails pace and they were an uptempo offense

Ohio hit like a million threes in the game against Buffalo and still only won by 3.

USF seems to defend the 3 well.
