I never understood this sentiment. It has been a long time since i put on all the football equipment, but i remember the cold being an absolute ##### tackling when you smash your hands on somebody's helmet. Thinking about it now, I didn't mind the cold when i played rugby as much, so maybe i did do more standing when i played then moving around.
