FFOC $1,000,000 (1 Viewer)

Drafted today at the #10 slot. Here is what I ended up with:

Round 1 : QB Peyton Manning (At 1.10, Peyton seemed like the best value in a QB flex league. Hope he's ready for week 1)

Round 2 : RB Larry Johnson (At 2.1, I rolled the dice here with LJ who I like very much this year. Passed on Gore, Barber, and Lynch)

Round 3 : WR Chad Johnson (drafted CJ right before the torn Labrum news hit  Housh was still on the board)

Round 4 : WR Torry Holt (I love Holt this year. last chance for a big contract and he's healthy. top 10 WR)

Round 5 : RB Reggie Bush (Bush seems to slip in FFOC drafts to round 5 or even 6. I'll take him here even with no PPR)

Round 6 : RB Selvin Young (worst pick of the draft for me. Winslow went a pick ealier. Roy W. was still there but the **** autodraft kicked in)

Round 7 : RB Ronnie Brown (another tough pick with RBBC in Miami. Lendale, Jonathan Stewart, and Chris Johnson went next).

Round 8 : TE Tony Gonzalez

Round 9 : QB Eli Manning

Round 10 : RB Felix Jones

Round 11 : TE Vernon Davis

Round 12 : WR Ted Ginn

Round 13 : WR Jerry Porter

Round 14 : WR Isaac Bruce

Round 15 : QB Vince Young

Round 16 : TD Baltimore Ravens

Round 17 : TD Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Round 18 : K Mason Crosby

Round 19 : WR Bryant Johnson

Round 20 : RB Chris Brown

Overall I like my team. I reached on LJ, Chad Johnson, and Felix Jones but a few of my other picks were great value. I could have paired Barber or Gore with LJ, instead of Manning but I don't like either of those guys as much this year. Hopefully it pays off.

I, too, figured they'd need 20,000 entries. That's a LOT. However, with CDM behind it, I imagine they could probably fill it.
Hmmm, I'm in league #399 and #400 tomorrow. Are they going to get to 2000 leagues? Might be close, but I see they revised down their payouts a little bit. I still hate these formats where a few win big and most win nothing, but I'm partnering with a good buddy so what the heck.

Last night I had a schizophrenic draft. Was disconnected 3 times and autodrafted. Anyway had the 6th pick Round 1: Tom Brady- Brady or Barber or Gore, I went Brady with the hopes of picking up another high QB (round 4 maybe) to play in the flex Round 2: Drew Brees- Well Brees Fell I've never gone QB in the first round before, so might as well make it QB/QB here. Round 3: Andre Johnson- Best WR on the board, all the RBs are around even. Hes now my 3rd round pick in the first 3 drafts i've done here. Don't think I'll be picking him again barring a major drop. Round 4: Jamal Lewis- Him or Jacobs, already had Jacobs in previous 2 drafts. Round 5: Earnest Graham- Best RB there Round 6: Lee Evans- Best WR Round 7: Edgerrin James- Solid #3RB Round 8: Philip Rivers- First auto pick. Sucks, he share's Brees bye week to. Round 9: Minnesota Vikings- Weak WR, all the Top TEs gone, I'm going to have a weak bench due to that first autodraft so might as well go starter. Round 10: Anthony Gonzalez- Best WR Round 11: Javon Walker- Pretty high to take him, wanted a boom or bust guy. Round 12: Nick Folk- 2nd auto pick Round 13: Steve Slaton- ####### I have no depth. Ray Rice gone, best shot at starting left at RB here. Round 14: Owen Daniels- TE, needed one, got a decent one. Round 15: Adam Vinatieri- 3rd auto pick Round 16: Mark Clayton- Need a guy who will be on the field with Walker as my #4 WR. Round 17: Jerious Norwood- Wait, how did I miss this guy? How did everyone else? I'll take him. Round 18: Tennessee Titans- Frustrated with the draft at this point, not really thinking much. Eff it, i'll take another D. Complete waste, they Play Indy when Minn has a bye. Round 19: Derrick Ward- upside should jacobs go down. Round 20: Marcedes Lewis #2 TE.
Did you use any of the applications to show you QB's were more valuable?

Not sure what you mean by this.

Good luck, did the same.

My 5th draft today, I feel this is my best team. Didn't hurt that Addai fell to my 8th pick.

Round 1: Joseph Addai- pretty obvious when he fell

Round 2: Peyton Manning- ditto

Round 3: Torry Holt- My toughest pick, didn't really have a good feel for where I should go.

Round 4: Anquan Boldin- Happy with Boldin as my number 2

Round 5: Roy Williams- Happy with Roy W as my 3

Round 6: Jonathan Stewart- I feel this is a small reach but with only one back I needed someone and he was the highest on my board.

Round 7: Kurt Warner- Was thinking about him with my 6th rounder just a smidge, locked him up when he came back.

Round 8: DeAngelo Williams- Seemed obvious from the 'I already have JS' standpoint, and the fact that he should be 8th round value.

Round 9: Ricky Williams- I've avoided taking him several times, don't mind gambling once- fits well with my team as I am good with my WRs and not overly stressed about finding my 4th but am weak at RB.

Round 10: Minnesota Vikings- Right where I have them, early to mid 10th.

Round 11: Jeremy Shockey- Was planning on going TEBC until he fell.

Round 12: D.J. Hackett- Talent.

Round 13: Zach Miller- Thinking about how Shockey gets banged up, and how I don't have him on any team. A couple of other players I was targeting were taken in the few picks leading up.

Round 14: Jerious Norwood- was torn between him and Steve Slaton. We had an autodrafter in the 3rd spot and Norwood would likely have gone to him.

Round 15: Steve Slaton- Thrilled when he was there on the way back.

Round 16: DeSean Jackson- not a whole lot of receivers left, guess I'm taking upside.

Round 17: Philadelphia Eagles-

Round 18: Ryan Longwell

Round 19: Justin Gage

Round 20: Trent Edwards

I hate the formats too where you win a bundle or nothing but in the end, it's fantasy football and I'd rather put my dollars there than say the lottery.Being the NO. 9 pick, I can tell I have my work cut out, it'll be close. Out of 10 teams, I can for sure say 3 are probably already out to win our league realistically, which is actually more than I thought.

Here's where I thought you had value: bolded above:Good draft, because I didn't bold doesn't mean I don't like the pick, just the bold means where I think you got some value.

If you want to post your team I'll comment, but I won't post your team for you (some people don't like that, what's the point in drafting without sharing your teams!)

Round 1: Frank Gore Standard Pick. Its going to be a tough league for you with Westbrook, Jackson, Addai going 6, 7 8.Round 2: Larry Johnson Would have been my pick if you had taken Manning.

Round 3: T.J. Houshmandzadeh- Injury put him below Holt for sure in my mind.

Round 4: Brandon Jacobs- Solid pick, but was surprised that you didn't pick up either of his backups and instead went with B jackson at 20.

Round 5: Greg Jennings- good

Round 6: Dwayne Bowe- good

Round 7: Laveranues Coles- good

Round 8: Chris Chambers- had him all qued up when you took him.

Round 9: Marc Bulger- I like this string of QBs. Bulger's injury downside is mitigated by having Kitna at #3 who could end up putting up the best numbers of any of them.

Round 10: Eli Manning

Round 11: Jon Kitna

Round 12: Ted Ginn- I'm not high on Ginn, but can't argue with him here.

Round 13: Todd Heap- Between Heap and Davis you could end up with two quality TEs, or an injured guy and a disappointment.

Round 14: Vernon Davis

Round 15: Deuce McAllister

Round 16: Neil Rackers

Round 17: Tennessee Titans

Round 18: Carolina Panthers

Round 19: Kenny Watson- was looking to WW him, wasn't drafted at all in 3/4 other leagues.

Round 20: Brandon Jackson

Hey Bacon,I truly appreciate you taking the time to evaluate my team after out draft. Ultimately, I think we both have shots to win our leauge as best we can from the 8 and 9 hole, which I like. I hope we see other in week 10......I mean it.

FFOC Positional Data

Note: This is subscriber info, but should help everyone with future drafts.
Pretty cool DD, I did something similar but only used about 5 or so drafts. After reviewing my draft there were only 2 non-positive value picks I made. I considered a positive value pick with any selection I made where the positional ranking was greater then the last player of that position selected. So for example with pick 1.06 I took Steven Jackson, according to the posted ADP RB5 was going at 1.06 so I picked up +1 value there since I had him listed as my RB4.I took Minnesota D at 8.05 - it was the first D off the board, with the injury to Merriman I figured that has to drop the Chargers D down a few points and would only increase the gap that this #1 D already had.

Value = 0

Since according to your article the first D has been going at 8.01 (I guess technically there is value there, I was calculating value based on number of additional rankings I got out of my pick). This would have been negative if the ADP was later then 8.06

The second pick where I received negative value was with my 19th pick when I took Eddie Royal. I think his situation is unique in this league format. This is really a 9 week league initially and with Brandon Marshall expected to miss 3 weeks I think this kid's value skyrockets (for the first few weeks of the season). So even though his total fantasy points are low over a 16 week season I think he has exceptional value late in a draft in a format like this.

Value = -7

The biggest steals according to the format I described were:

18.05 WR Kevin Walter (+16)

16.05 RB Ray Rice (+11)

05.06 WR Santonio Holmes (+8) - although I have him ranked ridiculously high on my sheet (WR8)

20.05 TE Zach Miller (+8)

LJ at 2.10, wow, he went at 1.9 in my draft. Was Garrard available at 7.1 or did you just prefer Favre?

Garrard went in 6th round.. Chose Favre over Hasselbeck, Shaub, and other 8-15 ranked qb's.. Love my Qb/WR hookups

Good draft overall, LJ falling is a dream in that spot. What WRs were avialible at 6.10 where you took edge/Farve?

So, does this whole system have the feel of a scam?

Out of 500 leagues, all they have to do is set up 10 leagues of their own insiders, get 10 loaded teams, and win all the top prizes. For better protection, they could do this with 50 leagues, using different optimized combinations of elite players. They still have 4500 paying customers and massive odds of wining the top prizes.

Basically I see your first proposal as unlikely to be a scam provided they have actually escrowed the money. If they have escrowed they are taking a huge risk since any ONE of the 490 other league owners filing a complaint that it was rigged could hold up that money, and considering how blatant it would be to experienced owners (and those who make it to that round are likely to be experienced) there would definitely be a landslide of complaints. Besides losing money they put up in escrow and advertising, they could also be charged under the wire act for each individual act (as is my understanding, not a lawyer but played poker online professionally for a few years and got advice from a few who played them online), which would be 1 per player, or 5,000 potential charges, each of which a federal offense. Not a small concern for anyone who wants to set foot in the US ever again. If they haven't escrowed the money then its approaching 100% that it is a scam, but they'll do it just by taking the money and running. The second one takes more brains to set up, has a lower risk but also a lower reward as to make their teams good enough to be big favorites (remember they are promising payouts well in excess of what 4500 players will bring in at this moment) when their teams are outnumbered 9-1 will be tough. They already lose 20% off the top of what they collect in payouts to the first player in each league, that leaves them with about 400,000-450,000 in winnings if they take ALL of the prizes above and beyond that (depending on how many of their entries are through their specials). Minus advertising, minus setting up the website and running it all year.

Last post described the legal ramifications pretty well, but I will offer another thought. These guys are serious about having the biggest contest in fantasy football. Yes it will likely be an overlay this year and they lose some money. But what happens in year two for them when someone gets paid the million dollars? Does the contest grow significantly? 15 million + people play fantasy football. Is there room in this hobby to support this kind of payout? I think the answers are that this type of contest can gain a stronghold in this space. The WSOP has a $10K buy-in and attracts 7,000 people to play in it. Time will tell, but I am not betting against these guys. They have shown me that they are serious and I believe them when they tell me they are in this for the long haul.

Actions they have done this year:

They have taken out significant ads in USA Today, on fantasy websites like ours, etc.

They have hired Jerry Rice to serve as the Commish.

They solicited help from CDM and Fanball, the two biggest game operators.

and the biggest is they did not renege on the million dollar prize despite KNOWING that they were likely to lose money in year 1. (They did restructure the prizes downward, but retained the top prize).

Damn, first LJ falls to you, then Portis? Nice.My criticism is the same for both drafts, you went for your 3rd RB over your 3rd WR. In both situations you picked a 2nd QB right after (or shortly thereafter) who will fill your flex spot. With LT, ADP, LJ and Portis and your flex filled your 3rd RB is going to be a bye week/injury filler while your 3rd WR will be starting. I would say the difference between Bowe/Evans/White over Ward/Mason/Driver is big enough to justify passing on edge and taking a back in the 8th/9th round (D Williams, R Williams).Just my take, both your teams look strong enough to win your league, good luck.I will say this, Norwood seems to be the most undervalued player in the league in these drafts. Consistently going 16th round and lower.

Unsolicited opinion. To early for Calvin, to many receivers. You get great value when TO drops to you, but Cal has been going in the Fifth round. even if he preforms to his draft position here you have potentially given up a Jamal Lewis/ Brandon Jacobs type back with a good possibility of grabbing him in the 4th. Instead you have 4 good WRs where you need 3 and a hole at RB#2.

count me as one who was skeptical at first. And they are hedging their bets a bit by scaling downs the prize structure beyond the 1 mil. But, i'll take 3 teams in this league over 1 in WCOFF online champ. not too often you get a shot at a million just for playing FF.

Sorry if this was already asked/posted. When you sign up, can you pick your own draft date and time? Also, what if the slot you pick doesn't fill up? Do they bump you? For example, I saw an upcoming draft at 9pm (great time) but only 3 of 10 owners had "registered" - does this mean there were still 7 open slots? I read the website's FAQ but this question of mine wasn't addressed. Thanks.

You select one time to draft, and one alternate time. they have 3 or 4 times each day. If you don't get your first time you have priority for your second.

I had the same problems using IE, but I have to be honest that I would definitely not have been pissed about getting McGahee in the 4th round. Wow.

Just got the one spot in a draft tomorrow. In my own local league, I had the 9 spot, so I'll have to re-think my strategy picking from the 1 spot. Also, the addition of the flex changes things a bit. Have to think that through.
