There's this thing called Google, where if you type in "nfl field goals over 60 yards" it gives you a complete list of all field goals over 60 yards, not just NFL.Sea Bass kicked 63 yarder last night which got me to thinking how many other NFL kickers have kicked FGs over 60 yards. I did a Google search and saw who he's tied with, but who else has kicked FGs over 60 yards?
Without looking it up (sorry DiStefano) I believe he's tied with Elam and Dempsey is one yard behind both of them.Off the top of my head too, is he tied with Dempsey and Elam? Or is he tied with Dempsey and Elam is behind them? Either way, they each had 60+ yarders.
Lol...there's this thing called "reading comprehension"...I believe he is aware of Google. Not so -- Janikowski, Elam, and Dempsey all share the NFL record with 63 yards. Current Falcons K Matt Bryant is the one that made the 62-yarder (in 2006).Dempsey does have the record for furthest placement of a successful FG from the opponent's goal-line -- the ball was placed at the New Orleans 37-yard line (goal posts were still on the goal line in 1970).Without looking it up (sorry DiStefano) I believe he's tied with Elam and Dempsey is one yard behind both of them.
After going through the whole thing, here is the answer:65 yards Ola Kimrin, Denver Broncos (W 31-0) v Seattle Seahawks, 8/29/2002 preseason
There's such a thing as sarcasm comprehension, too.Lol...there's this thing called "reading comprehension"...I believe he is aware of Google. I don't care how son, just git 'er dunnn.Dempsey and Cox are the only straight on style kickers that have done it(60 yards or more). The others are soccer style.
Oddly enough high school football kickers have handily beat college and NFL records over and over through the years.I knew of a guy that kicked 60 yards several times (he'd get a full ride to AZ State when they had a decent team) and he was bested a year or two later.Guess..there's 10 videos on you tube of highschool kickers kicking 60ish yards and longer. One guy has a name like a board member Unlucky? Zangrilli zarilli zangilli or somesuch. He has maybe 10 60 yarders and a 70 in HS.IIRC a chick from Indiana nailed a 45-50 yarder playing on the boys team.Google, don't beat me up for inaccuracies, you'll see there's plenty. I don't have the time to go look this up but figured discussion wise it would be interesting to know. Not NFL, but interesting to me:When former Bears kicker Kevin Butler was in college (Georgia), he missed a 70-yard FG attempt barely wide right in a game. I think the opponent was Florida State. At the time, college kickers attempted FGs off of a 1-inch tee. EDIT: Correction -- it was a 2-inch tee.
He also did it with a flat fronted shoe, which many consider to have been an advantage...Dempsey's name should always be listed first, despite the tie. Those 2 did it a mile above sea level. Dempsey did it BELOW sea level.
They should appeal Dempsey's kick too, since it was only 62 3/4 yards.

C'mon, don't be so sensitive either. That flat foot could be an advantage when he hit the ball square/flush with more surface area to impact the ball. Put another way, would you feel any empathy for a boxer born with no fingers but was allowed a steel prosthetic under his boxing gloves? I'd not want to fight that guy.The guy was born with no fingers on his right arm and no toes on his foot. Off the top of my head, I'd say:I wonder what the longest field goal is for the 1st and 3rd quarters?

This is the Dempsey FG, I remember reading that Alex Karras and a few Lion defenders were laughing when the lined up for the FG. There were not any soccer style kickers at that time, so 63 yards had to seem like 80. I do think Dempseys stump foot helped him hammer the ball. If you look at the spot in was only 62 1/2 yards.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrxTjgFYoU8C'mon, don't be so sensitive either. Yep - that's a fair comparison. The SP - taking it to ridiculous extremes in every thread since 2000.C'mon, don't be so sensitive either. Not sure about the NFL rule, but the NCAA rule is that if the ball is not actually touching a yard line, it is considered spotted to the next yard line closest to the goal.Saw a clip on ESPN (or somewhere) showing Janikowski kicking a 70-yarder in the pregame warmups Monday night. As for appealing the distance, I just watched the video, you can't see the actual spot from the replays, but when he's lining up to kick the holder is clearly right on the 47. How does the yardage get scored - do they round up or down for partial yardage? Is a 63.1 yard field goal called a 64 yarder? If so there's a chance the ball was inside the chalk and he could have the record. If you only get credit for full yards there's no way that was 64 yards unless the holder moved back a whole yard between shots.
