Finding a Good Real Estate Agent (1 Viewer)

Any advice on finding a real estate agent to work with in a place where you don't live and don't know anyone? My wife and I are considering retireing to the Wilmington NC area in a few years and are planning a trip down there to "look around". I've been looking at house on Zillow, and have seen some nice looking places, but I don't know the listing agents or neighborhoods from Adam. And I don't have any friends or contacts down there to get recommendations from.

So any suggestions as the best way to hook up with a good agent?

read reviews about them online. We did that with our beach place and the guy was awesome. Left a positive review for him

if you have a trusted realtor where you are now, ask them. They can poke around, and if you use them as a referral, they can get a finders fee of up to 25% of the commission.

I am using RedFin right now. The agents don't get paid on commission and are very knowledgeable about the areas they serve. There's more than that which sets them apart from a typical brokerage but check out the site for details. It's a refreshing new business model in the real estate industry, highly recommend it.
