I love the clean water I have despite all those pipelines you hate. Why do you hate clean water?
I like most of these suggestion except possibly the bolded.Drastically provide a smaller government (FEMA, Housing & Urban Dev, DOT, etc. )
Fiscal responsible. Pay down/slow national debt.
Cut military spending. Start at 50% cut and keep going.
Eliminate NASA
Flat/simple tax code. Tax code that can fit on a single 8.5x11 page.
Term limits all around, 2 terms max.
You know what is good for clean water? Fracking, helps purify the ground water supply.cashman88 said:Clean water. We can all agree that we want clean water to drink, right?
I think you forgot a word in the slogan.Agree. "How about attacking people because of a shirt with a political statement (non-derogatory)"
A "Make America Great" t-shirt however should be able to be worn without consequence.
Too much moral fiber perhaps?![]()
I think there's a lot of common ground here for most.My rules: As long as you're not hurting me or someone else... have at it. Yeah, we need more of this kind of mindset
I think you should be able to won any reasonable weapon you want (with reasonable background check) I think the argument here is usually over what is "reasonable"
I am Pro Choice Ditto
I am for equal rights based on sexual orientation, gender, or race Ditto, althought I think some people disagree on what is "equal" and what is "special treatment"
I am against affirmative action or forced special treatment based on sexual orientation, gender, or race See above
I am for term limits, campaign finance reform, limiting lobbyist industry, looser requirements for 3rd party candidates to participate in elections I worry about term limits primarily because only long-term legislators seem to have the knowledge of government necessary to truly oppose lobbyists/limit their power
I am for for large scale decriminalization of most drugs with substantial improvements in treatment options God, yes
I am for increasing government assistance to those who have proven a need, but requiring some work for that assistance I think that depends, for me. I think single parents should be doing more parenting and less working, frankly, to try to deal with the lack of family unit influence on generations of kids who end up lost. I also think that the disabled/etc. should be getting more help than they do. Other than that, though (and maybe some exceptions I haven't thought of) totally on board.
I am for wholesale simplification of the tax code, perhaps to fair tax levels Probably - but I'd really need to see CBO/real world effect projections before I'd feel comfortable with that. If we institute BIG, I'm definitely on board.
I am pro law enforcement having the authority and support to police properly, but also for heavy penalties for those proven bad apples. Ditto
I am for the death penalty. God, I waffle on this. I'm often anti-death-penatly but really have a tough time when there are people who likely deserve the needle. Hard to remind myself it isn't about what people "deserve" but about trying to have a better long term effect on society.
I am for auditing the defense department in an effort to run more efficiently Yeah, something has to be done here
I am for control of the education system to be handled on a state level I mostly am, though I think the federal government should be keeping statistics and studying what works to provide resources to the States.
I am for sensible environmental regulation with a special emphasis on preserving our water supply Again - what is sensible tends to be the argument point here.
I am for the space program, but also working with private entities as well I sort of am, but I feel we as a world need to solidify what the potential rights/responsibilities are for private actors in space. I don't need Exxon-Mobile annexing Mars on behalf of the corporation
I am for religious freedom, i am against any financial or political benefits given to religious institutions or its adherents. Absolutely
I am for stiffer penalties for unruly disruptions of the peace that result in damage to property or assault. I'm for penalties for the acts of damage or assault, and in really egregious instances I'm for "inciting" but other than that, I think violent or destructive idiots are responsible for their own actions
I am for applying even stiffer penalties to those shown to incite or drive those protests financially or on an organizational level Only to the extent that they clearly and intentionally are inciting illegal activity, for me
I am for a human's right to use any reasonable force necessary to defend themselves and their loved ones Yeah, I'm basically in the "out there we're all trying to get ahead, but you come at me or mine on my property and I'll take your head off" camp
I am for strong borders, but a reasonable path to citizenship for a controlled number of properly vetted folks. Reasonable will be debatable again, but yeah. Basically. If you've been here 20 years contributing, I feel like we should probably have some way to keep you in the fold too.
I am for a very short leash for new immigrants to our nation, and showing inability to follow major laws leads to deportation Depending on what "major laws" means, probably
Re: defense spending, it it so far out of whack (+500B annually) in the amount of total govt spending. Start slow, implement a plan to get that in line. Re: NASA, to me, is not a deal breaker, but it's an easy way to start the process of putting the govt financial house in some way better.I like most of these suggestion except possibly the bolded.
I'm OK with reducing military spending but 50% is too drastic. That sounds akin to the way Trump initiated travel restrictions (NOW! Don't think about it just do it NOW!). I'd want to start lower and ramp down.
Does eliminating NASA mean stopping all space exploration? Asking because to most NASA = Space Exploration but that doesn't necessarily have to be the case. Regardless I'm against eliminating NASA but curious as to your POV.
not agreeing or disagreeing but:Re: NASA, to me, is not a deal breaker, but it's an easy way to start the process of putting the govt financial house in some way better.
You interested in a running mate?My rules: As long as you're not hurting me or someone else... have at it.

Not me. The ratio of CEO pay to the average worker is completely out of whack and they basically set their own pay. Anything that reigns in these crooks I'm all for.I get uncomfortable with how willing folks like Bernie Sanders are to tell companies how much their CEO's should make. I get their point, and I sorta agree it's ridiculous, but hearing someone from government say that...just rubs me the wrong way.
Academic? Scientific? GTFOnot agreeing or disagreeing but:
NASA's FY 2011 budget of $18.4 billion represented about 0.5% of the $3.4 trillion United States federal budget during that year, or about 35% of total spending on academic scientific research in the United States.
I made a few tweaks, but close enough is close enoughMy rules: As long as you're not hurting me or someone else... have at it.

Not to mention these same CEO's pay/bonuses are often dependent on them cutting the bottom line (often read: workers) - they abuse H1B regulations and the like all in the name of making the shareholders money and lining their own pockets. Not me. The ratio of CEO pay to the average worker is completely out of whack and they basically set their own pay. Anything that reigns in these crooks I'm all for.
I think this is a pretty solid list. The heroin epidemic is something that needs addressed at all levels. Although, I am for decriminalizing the minor hippie lettuce offenses. My rules: As long as you're not hurting me or someone else... have at it.

I was the first one to announce my candidacy!I'm voting the Henry Ford - [icon] ticket in 2020. Or [icon] - Henry Ford. Whatever you guys decide.
Since Trump is against everything on your list, which of his views make you a Trump supporter?Hi! I am Courtjester.
I am a Trump supporter.
I am pro-choice, I don't care who you marry, I hate getting involved in any Middle East wars and I like things that are good for the environment.
Since no politician is going to completely embody every view one might have, your attempt at some kind of zing is a nice swing and a miss.Since Trump is against everything on your list, which of his views make you a Trump supporter?

He is not against Trump supporters, per se...Since Trump is against everything on your list, which of his views make you a Trump supporter?
It honestly wasn't a zing - on all of your points, while he may not have yet taken specific steps, he has shown a deference to those around him whose views may be more hostile than his may have previously been. The presence of Jeff Sessions, Steve Bannon, and Stephen Miller in particular make me very concerned on these social issues.Since no politician is going to completely embody every view one might have, your attempt at some kind of zing is a nice swing and a miss.
That being said, I will play along, is Trump proposing some kind of anti-gay marriage movement here. Last time I saw he affirmed Obama's position on same sex protections. Now I may be wrong there.
Is Trump starting a new war in the Middle East? Again maybe I missed it, but I think he ran on a position of destroying ISIS but not getting involved and being the world's policeman.
It is true that Trump has said he wants to lesson EPA oversight and restrictions, but again has anything been proposed and enacted yet?
The fear mongering is just out of control.
Cool map.Like that one pipeline will make a difference.

It's pretty telling that this thread dropped to page 2 while page one has multiple anti-Trump threads.
Seems like a nice thread going well.Multiple anti-Trump threads? It's pretty telling that this thread dropped to page 2 while page one has multiple anti-Trump threads.
For the sake of good reading I think the point is to say 2 things you like with a 'side' you supposedly oppose. You can't think of anything?Middle ground is hard.
Yes?Is Trump starting a new war in the Middle East? Again maybe I missed it, but I think he ran on a position of destroying ISIS but not getting involved and being the world's policeman.
Huh? I already listed 1 thing for each party. I'll repeat myself. Democrats need to respect rural american values more, and republicans need to embrace public education. For the sake of good reading I think the point is to say 2 things you like with a 'side' you supposedly oppose. Multiple anti-Trump threads?
Only see one now, unless you are counting The Horror Movie Thread.
Man, you have been bamboozled and this one post sums up why trying to compromise is a waste of time. Nice workSince Trump is against everything on your list, which of his views make you a Trump supporter?
This one cannot be underestimated. I think the practical application of AI over the next 20 years will have economic impacts (both positive & negative) potentially larger than industrial revolution.I am for more aggressive research on the ethics and practical applications of artificial intelligence

I am a Trump supporter.
I am pro-choice, I don't care who you marry, I hate getting involved in any Middle East wars and I like things that are good for the environment.
I will tag back in here. The premise of this thread was things we can all agree upon. My initial post was where I stand that I know run counter to the GOP's usual SOP that I believe align me more with the Left's positions on these issues. THUS as a Trump voter I am attempting to "Find a Common Ground" with those that do not like Trump.? I legitimately don't know how anyone who cares about those things voted for trump, so I am curious to learn more. I thought that was the point of this thread.
Yaknowwhat, I have to apologize.Huh? I already listed 1 thing for each party. I'll repeat myself. Democrats need to respect rural american values more, and republicans need to embrace public education.
