Been meaning to ask this question to the masses since last year. Can someone explain why Quaterbacks always lick thier fingers?

Not all of them, but I know it's more than a few. Brad Johnson comes to mind, and watching the games this weekend I remember seeing a couple more, but the names escape me.

Any knowledge of this phenomenon?

Better grip on the football. When dirt builds up on the fingers, it makes it harder to throw a tight spiral. However, it's probably psychosomatic when done on a play-after-play-after-play basis. It's similar to basketball player rubbing the dust off the bottom of his shoes.

God, I wish I could remember his name, but there was a QB exposed a couple of years ago for licking his fingers only before pass plays. Opposing D's figured it out and knew when to stack the run or play the pass.
