FInley Going Forward 2011 (1 Viewer)

Not sure how to ask this, and I am trying to careful with paid subscriber info, but in a standar scoring league (non-ppr) that treats WR the same as TE (we do not start a TE), The top 200 going forward has Finley ranked very high (10-15 range), which is a big jump up from previous weeks. Yet, the cheatsheet has Finely in the 25-30 range (where he has routinely been all year).

With him getting some few targets, I am very curious as to the high go forward ranking? Does he shine late in the season due to weather?, etc...

Going forward? Is there another direction? lol.

I just traded him. I think hell have some huge games but also some some stinkers in that offense . His ppg average will Probly be good but it will reflect the few games he actually does something imo . Huge upside always, but lots of competetion as well

seems like he doesn't play on half the downs- they use Crabtree or Quarless?? What is up with this?
Nobody outside of Rogers is playing all of the snaps in Green Bay. Finley has actually led the Packers' non-QBs in snaps most weeks this year and he's still nowhere close to 100%.

Crabtree/Quarless are used mostly in tight sets. Crabtree is a very effective edge blocker. Finley will get some more TD's this season but he could help our cause by keeping his head in the game.

What happened this week? Goose egg following an 11 target day where he had 87 yards and a score. How do people view Finley with Jennings out?

Rodgers was saying that Finley opens up passing lanes for his receivers and really helps the team even when he's not producing TDs and catches. Teams have been using a LB and safety help on his side of the field. If you notice on GB's big passing plays this year, they are happening on the opposite side of Finley where Jordy/Jennings/Jones just have to beat one on one coverage and they are gone.

Finley will thrive against teams that go 2 deep against the Pack, because Rodgers will not force the ball downfield against teams like the Bears.

Finley dynasty owners have to hope that he leaves Green Bay - can't say that about too many players. Just too many options at Rodgers' disposal for Finley to be a consistent top-tier option at TE.

As a Packers fan, I really don't want to see him go. This guy is very good. He constantly draw coverage. He alway have the best cover LB + some safety look. Major asset for the passing game. Rogers don't need to force throw at him.

As a FF owner, I want him out of Green Bay ASAP !!

I dont get how gronk can be so beastly and finley cant. Pats have as many weapons as gb so whats the problem. Just a decoy?

I think the Green Bay WRs are just that much better than the Patriots group. Welker has been a great WR but outside of that the rest of the group is very pedestrian. Brady just continues to throw Gronks way.I'm happy with Finley staying in Green Bay in that potent offense with Rodgers who has many years left. Maybe New England adds a couple of more better WR options and Brady spreads it around more next year?

Finley has to compete with Jennings/Nelson/Driver/Jones/Cobb. Gronk really "only" has Welker and Hernandez. Both TEs have high quality options next to them, but a big difference, I'd say.

Finley just flat-out isn't as good as Gronk. There's more to being a great football player than running fast and jumping high.

This.Finley could be s superstar if he would get his head right. He does not have a firm grasp of the offense and he plays "soft", IMO. A great example was the int in the endzone against the Raiders. If 88 had a more "my ball" mentality and tried to catch it with his hands, he has a sure TD. On a play that was called back due to penalty, the Pack ran a bubble screen that was set up to be taken to the house but Finley didn't make an agressive play to the EZ. The commentators mentioned that the play should have gone for more of a gain. Gronkowski is much more agressive with the ball in his hands.

Does anyone think you could be a more focal point on offense in the next 2-3 weeks with Jennings out?

Yeah, this. When I've watched him, he's more likely to disappear or stand out in a negative way with drops than he is to look really good. I've been on the bandwagon since '09 and I'll be actively trying to move him this offseason. His end of year numbers should look more enticing than his actual game-to-game performance has been. Hopefully. Also I'm pretty sure that quite a few guys playing TE in the NFL probably run faster and jump higher than Finley. IIRC his combine #s kind of sucked.

I see that others are saying no, but I think it's highly likely that Finley sees a fairly significant bump in targets going forward. Jennings was probably the #1 read on a majority of the plays, particularly in the red zone. Who knows how many more opportunities Finley will get, but he definately moves up the ladder one notch. It would'nt surprise me to see him as the primary red zone target going forward.

I certainly think it is possible Finley sees a bump the last few weeks while Jennings is out but I don't know that I think it is likely. I see Cobb and Jones as the two who benefit the most because I think they will see a lot more snaps. Rodgers is so very good and finding the right person to throw to so it depends on coverage. I don't think Rodgers has to lean on Finley because that WR group is still very good.

Finley draws some double coverage which takes him out of the game in terms of fantasy production, but helps his team win in reality. His skills aren't really that great when you breakdown his fluidity, hands, and open field ability. He's good, not great, and can be a mismatch. He's a tall slow somewhat stiff yet strong WR when you really break it down in comparison to pass receivers. His frame and tools lead people to assume he could be dominant, but athletes and competitors aren't necessarily one in the same. I think that the real quality of his tools as a player are exaggerated because he's not fast enough to totally burn people and he's not big enough or shifty enough to be super hard to tackle, nor are his hands/catch radius extraordinary.

His overall game is nice, but it's readily countered schematically by numerous teams. (Teams caught on to the double shift isolation flank play he caught a couple TDs from this season.) So while he's versatile enough to play out wide, he's not good enough to beat bracket coverage and when the isolation trick became apparent teams stopped it. Overall he is a player to be respected, but not feared.

He just has not proven to be a special competitor despite appearing to have the physical tools to be such a player. I use to think he could be great, but after really watching him and noticing how many plays he could have made into huge plays, but didn't, I realized that he's not as freakish of an athlete as I initially thought and he's not a special competitor either. I don't see him ever being a truly elite player, he's just a good player.

By more offense, you mean some, right? Between this guy, VJax and Calvin, my "great" receiving options have all but disappeared. Hopefully Finley will be fantasy relevant for weeks 15/16 without Jennings, but not counting on it. GB is siimilar to NO and NE in that they bring in someone else and continue to spread the ball around.

Finley to have monster day. The stars are aligned perfectly with Jennings out and playing the Chefs. If he can't do it today he won't do it the rest of this season.

Most overrated TE in fantasy this year in regards to where people were drafting him. It's like this every year with TEs, his value will reset and be a bit more appropriate next year while owners will reach nasty for Gronk and pay dearly for it.
