I'll catch up wit the rest of the thread later, but this. Both kids got this speech big time, had credit cards to pay for cabs that have evolved into Uber apps on my credit card. They also had a very dynamic AD at the high school that told them "your name is your brand" and we will be checking local police reports, Facebook, etc to be sure that brand is positive. 

With the kids now 19 and my daughter turning 21 on Monday, they turned out just fine. I won't be winning any parent of the year awards, but I am darn confident they can handle their booze and not get behind the wheel when they do. 

Good idea.  I need to put Uber on my kid's phone.

I was getting blitzed on church wine as an altar boy in 6th thru 8th grade.

Granted, I was a little more "advanced" than most of my peers.

It was my best friend's Dads idea.  A large group of 15 or so of us were the popular jocks in school and we as a group decided to wait until college.   One of the best decisions I ever made.  We kicked ### in sports every year in high school and to this day my high school friends are stil my best friends.

Randy Floyd, before next fall you're in need of a serious attitude adjustment young man, you better get your priorities straight, and watch out with that other crowd your running with, dont think I haven't noticed!

I'm definitely the softie. My wife resents it sometimes,says I don't always have her back. I just see it as me being more reasonable.

Europeans would be puzzled by this thread.

Their drinking culture isn't as repressive for teenagers, so it's more normalized for them.

I would definitely not encourage the "it's okay to drink here at home with your buds under supervision"  thing.  If something bad happens, you could end up in prison.  Not kidding here.

For all of you saying "If you ever get in this situation, call me I will come pick you up no questions asked".  Don't just preach it, live it.  Go out one night, have a few, don't get blasted, and call your kid to come pick you up.  Kid will respect that YOU did what you asked THEM to do.

This is huge. You need not to show a divided front with your wife. It'll send a bad message to the child and be bad for your marriage. But make sure your voice gets heard through the, um, ether.

He said he's more reasonable not a pushover.  You may find this hard to believe but woman can often times be unreasonable and get upset over little things and blow them out of proportion.

Yeah, I agree. I know what a compulsive liar is, I was one in HS. I don't think she is, need to talk my wife off the ledge.

This place is great for talking through this type of ####, appreciate the input from all. 

yeah, I would consider this a "white lie" in the grand scheme of things.

Good job....and I applaud you for being transparent with everything in here....really helps some of us who will be encountering this eventually
