Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (1 Viewer)

I was at In&Out a few days ago. Ended up going inside. Drive-thru line was about 50 cars long BUT it was always moving. Didn't see a single car that was completely stopped. So odd. They had like 3 people out working the line before you get to the drive-thru, two taking orders, the other taking payments, all walking with the cars as they moved. Like a slow moving snake of cars. Average time at the actual window at that place is seconds.

Walked by the 5 guys up the street and place empty except for one guy scarfing down peanuts. Don't know how it stays in business.

Some people like to be screamed at when they walk inside.

5 Guys is never full at any I've been to over the last 5 years. In N Out has never not been packed.

NONE IN THE DOOR!

You should have ordered 1/2 miniature hamburger, scent of fries, ice cold water and tray of peanuts. $1.39 out the door. Don't know why people think this place is expensive, just need to know what to order. I split the fry whiff with my lady, plenty of stink in there for 2.
:lmao:

I was hanging out with a couple of idiot friends last week who had this exchange:

"I had the flu just after New Years. Went to In&Out one night and when I woke up the next morning the flu was gone. Felt great."

"Must have been the antibiotics in the meat."

"Oh, you're probably right."

God's love flows through them burgers.

That’s dumb to include that with the other gross stuff in there.

And the guys an idiot. The NJ staple is a hard roll with butter. Not a bread roll. Jerkoff.

Way better than In N Out, although I’m only comparing the Citi Field version of Shake to Vegas In N Out
I had Shake Shack in Vegas with my nephew. We both commented about how very similar the burger was to In N Out. If the lack of options makes In N Out fall behind these other spots, fine. But it isn't the quality or taste of the no frills burger which is how I like my burger. I prefer it to 5G no question, but this Shake Shack burger for almost three times the cost was pretty good competition.

I had Shake Shack for the first time out here today. Burger was OK but too small. Chicken sandwich pretty good. Fries just OK I guess. Everything too expensive though. I honestly don't understand Aaron giving the thumbs up to the SS fries while poo-pooing the In-n-Out fries. I think it's just like a "chic" thing to poo-poo those fries. Very odd phenomenon.

I was at a Five Guys yesterday where they were actually shouting “two in the door!” as people were walking in. I’ve probably been to over a dozen locations and had never seen that before. I felt like I witnessed a mythical creature that I thought only existed in fairy tales.

Aren't their fries just Oreda packaged frozen crinkle fries?

I think the whole In-n-out fries outcry is a reverse Slumdog Millionaire situation. All you heard heard about Slumdog Millionaire was what a great film. It had a stellar title, every review was positive, your friends saw it and said it was great. Then you watch it and think, wow, that was really good. In reality though the movie kind of stinks. Watch it again and think before you watch it that you're about to watch a lousy movie and I bet you'll think it wasn't as good as you remember. Now with In-n-Out fries, all you hear is people bashing them. People who had never been to In-n-Out heard over and over that the burger is really good but the fries stink. So you try the fries for the first time and automatically your brain says these fries aren't good. Reverse Slumdog happening there.

Next time you go to In-n-Out think to yourself you're going to have some tasty french fried potatoes, perfectly salted, and I bet they taste better than you remember. Those In-n-Out fries are not Shake Shack bland, wanna-be ore-ida crinkles. Those In-n-Out fries are real, unprocessed potatoes, that were probably in the fertile ground just a few hours ago, cut and french-fried right before your eyes by highly-trained culinarians.

I knew nothing about In-n-Out before I went there, and thought the fries were terrible.  Like Culvers-level bad fries.

Had barely heard of In N Out before going there about 15 years ago. Loved the burger and the fries the first time. Still do.

Had you ever had french-fried potatoes before? Or had you only had the americanized fries up to that point?

:lmao: Another reason to love 5 Guys. I get to save money by ordering a small and still get more fries than any other place's large.

Haven’t been to Five Guys in years because the price is just crazy, especially for one person eating lunch alone. But I try it again anyway.

Their prices are even more outrageous now. $15+ for cheeseburger, little fries and regular drink. That doesn’t fly in MN where you can get a snack pack at Culver’s for under $6 (yes, the fries aren’t as good) or at a local renowned burger joint for $8 with awesome fries, too.

It’s not that it’s a higher price or even a premium price. It’s CRAZY pricing. This isn’t NY. I foresee a downward slide and lots of one-and-dones ala Duke and Kentucky.

Yeah, but does Culver's or your "renowned" burger joint have unlimited peanuts?

Shake Shack is on the top of my list for burger joints. Luckily, one opened at the Mall of America a year or two ago. Five guys is decent as well, but if we’re doing burgers, we drive the extra 7 minutes to the mall for Shake Shack.

My two forays into In n Out have been lackluster at best. Pass.

I was just there over the weekend with the wife.  I don't think I paid over $22 for the two of us combined.  Even when I go for lunch, I can get a Bacon Cheeseburger, small fry and a drink for about $10.  The burger is the most expensive thing on the menu, but it's worth every penny.

There's a Culver's closer to us than 5 Guys, but no way am I stopping there.  It just doesn't taste good at all.  It's usually only busy right after school as the local Middle School kids walk there for shakes once school is out.  Any other time Culver's isn't busy.

Heard a lot about SS from FBG so I tried it last fall when I was in Vegas.  The shake wasn't bad, but didn't care for the burger or the fries.  I'm in no hurry to go back there.

You must have a bad Culvers franchise then. The one in my town is packed almost all the time...it's like they are printing money there. Those butter burgers and shakes (custard) are fantastic.  Fries are bland/mediocre at best.

$10 is about the price of just the bacon cheeseburger at Five Guys. Could prices vary that much from store to store? We’re in podunk MN so surely large cities are even more expensive.

Just did a draft online order for my local 5G

bacon cheeseburger, small fry, small drink with tax $14.38

Switch to the little bacon burger (single patty) and it’s $11.73

Eh. Cincy area. I know for my wife and I to eat I didn't spend over $22.

Liar.

Your profile says you are from Ohio. So am I. I just used their online ordering site and the location closest to me: https://order.fiveguys.com/menu/dublin

Bacon Cheeseburger: $8.59

Little Fries: $3.49

Regular Drink: $2.59

Total: $14.67

Tax: $1.10

Total with tax: $15.77

The Cheeseburger is only $0.30 less than the Bacon Cheeseburger, so the facts support Johnny Rock's post. Please provide evidence of yours, and I'll apologize for calling your a liar.

Five Guys' pricing, wait!

eta* Fifteen bucks for a fast food meal is getting ridiculously expensive. It's now prohibitively expensive for two to eat at about thirty dollars. I'm not that poor when it comes to a food budget, just not crazy about spending fifteen or so (at least) for fast food.
