Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (1 Viewer)

Still can't believe Five Guys forgot the hamburger patty in my burger to go from 2009.

How does that happen? I bet In & Out has never forgotten the burger patty in a burger to go.
That's the opposite of "animal style". I&O invented that one too.
Actually it's called "protein style" and in n out did invent it.
I'm not sure that's true, but it does seem like the kind of quality purchase I'd expect from In-N-Out.

As a tangent. Parents please introduce your children to more than McNuggets, hamburgers and microwave meals. I have met so many people who "don't like" so many varieties of food that they have never even tasted. Now no one likes everything. I am no fan of coconut or sauerkraut for instance. But you got to at least get them to try different stuff while they are young.
Mmmmmmmm...coconut sauerkraut.
That ain't right

Just went to 5G here in town. Not a peep from employees when I walked in. Heres proof:

Got a little bacon cuz burger and little fries. $8 and some change, and I couldn't finish the mountain of fries they gave me. Also swung by McDs in the way there and got a large $1 fountain soda.

I'd gladly pay $6 for this burger over a $5 and change double quarter pounder any day.
''Feels Like the First Time'' by Foreigner! Love their music choices @ 5G, anyways.

I'm really curious now as to how many times some of you eat fast food at either lunch or dinner in a month's time?

For me I would say lunch is in the range of 4-5 times a month, most of the time I bring something in.

Dinner would be maybe 2 and it's usually just because we don't feel like cooking and want something quick.
Lunch, maybe 2 times a month, unless you count Chinese, which is what I get most of the time when I eat. I usually don't eat lunch.Dinner, once a month. Maybe twice.
Hard to beat a good buffet for lunch. But I always want a nap afterwards.
There's a place three blocks from my office with a drive through window and a lunch buffet. It's my go to.
Yeah we got one a mile or two from here that has a huge buffet. I love going there. Unfortunately my lunch buddy is one of these youngsters whose parents never exposed them to any real culinary experimentation. Raised on burgers and frozen food. Doesn't like Mexican much, no to Chinese, no to Thai, no to Indian, it's sad actually. But of course she is in for Taco Bell <_< . So when she is not here for lunch is when I go to the ethnic places I like.
Spill it....I've never been to a good Chinese buffet in this area. Chen's Bistro (no longer exists) up in university area was the best I found and was "meh" at best. Also, I'll offer a Thai place here in Rock Hill and put it up against anything you know in CLT believe it or not. I eat there 2-3 times a week. It's freakin' awesome. Where do you typically go for Mexican up that way?

For the Chinese buffet I like Dragon Buffet. It is in the Wal-Mart shopping center at 49 and 485. It's close and they keep it pretty well stocked. My favorite Mexican place has closed I have to find a new one, On Thai I would put Thai House on 51 in South Charlotte up against about anyone.

A buffet and a drive thru? Wow. Don't let Keerock here of this place.
Are they combined into one thing? A drive-thru buffet? Like a circle of cars that slowly rotates around to pull up to a bunch of windows, each offering different items? Like a carving station window, an ice cream & dessert window, that salad window that everyone has to pass first so they hopefully load up on lettuce and bread but everyone just speeds by? Because that would be awesome.

That's where I used to go for Thai before finding this hole in the wall here in RH. Always wondered about DB as well. Might have to go up that way and check it out.

Chinese buffets give me the heebie jeebies.
This place has always been spotless. And with my background in food service I am very picky about temps stored at and stuff. They do a good job.
Do you go back into the kitchen?
Nah can't do that unfortunately. What about the kitchen of a buffet scares you?
It's admittedly irrational, but when I see loads of mass-produced Chinese food sitting in chafing dishes at an all you can eat buffet for $6.99, I get a little queasy.

My local Chinese buffet small-batch cooks everything with locally-grown produce and uses only organic cat meat. It's worth the 9.99 sticker price, IMO.

I know a few people that feel that way. I will say I am picky about where I go and I have never come down with any food borne issue.

Bro- me and my lady split the 1/2 buffet, free fortune cookies, bottomless free tea and we bring our own peanuts. $4.98 + tax out the door. You just need to know how to order. Most of the country lives nowhere near the Chinese place you're talking about and besides that place is too crowded and the eggrolls suck.

No splitting order! You leave now!

I assume it's shtick but you gotta know that ordering the fries that way is obnoxious and you're likely being ignored. I can't imagine you actually sit in the drive thru line, swish a few around your mouth and deliver a verdict.
I'm going to start doing this.

"Alright, here's your order sir, have a nice day!"

"Hold on, there Betty. Before I pull off, I'm going to make sure my medium french fry order meets my criteria of 'hot, fresh and crispy' and not a moment sooner."

"But sir, there's 17 cars behind you, one of them has spinny rims and the other has a dead deer carcass on the grill. I don't think......."

"ENOUGH! I will expect nothing but perfection from my $4.73 meal!!!! You and EVERYBODY will wait right there. *Inserts three fries, assiduously chews the hot potato goodness, moving them around the tongue so the morsels dance on his delicate papillae, alternating like a boss between salty, bitter, sweet and umami like a truck driver smoothly shifting his 18 gears. He pauses, spits them out of his window and begins barking "GOD DDDDDDDDDDDDAMNNNNNNNNNN IT, Betty! What is this...this...MUSH you've given me? You take these back and you make me a fresh pot of fries that are, IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER: HOT. FRESH. AND MOTHER FORKING CRISPY!"

"O.....Okay sir. I'm really very deeply sorry, if you'll just pull up ahead and...."

"DAMN IT GIRL, I'M NOT MOVING AN INCH UNTIL YOU PERFECT THESE FRIES!"
In a thread full of laughs GM just got ahead of Nipsey for thread win. Nipsey has been killing it with the redmeat though so he isn't out yet. But this is a bar raiser. Oh and :lmao:
you're kind, but Nipsey is KILLING it in here.

He really is but that was good stuff.

My local chinese buffet always had mounds of piping hot food everywhere, yet there were never more than 4-5 people in the restaurant.

I could never figure out why there was that much food, who ate it, or how old it was.

The place I was talking about does a pretty good business so they are reloading the buffet pretty regularly.

How many people have eaten fast food bc of this thread in the last two weeks?
I got a free Sausage McMuffin coupon at the Blazers' game last night because they scored 100 points. I cashed that in this morning, but only got the free breakfast sandwich. Does that count?

PS - It was pretty good.
Ruling against, this does not count, although glad the free sandwich was good

Did you make sure the sausage was juicy, tender and succulent before you drove off?

No, I'm pretty considerate of the drivers behind me. I have to also trust that a free sandwich is a gamble and today's roll of the dice came up all Millhouse.

I got a delicious sandwich for lunch. cost was a few cents under $10.

didn't come with fries, chips, or a drink (or any peanuts) so it must have been a huge ripoff (but it was delicious).

After 59 pages I was hoping that you would have begun to grasp the whole value concept.

Guess we have more work to do in here.

when I get similar quality food for a similar price everywhere else in my area, I'm not sure how it's such a horrible value (for me) but please enlighten me.

Did I&O invent value too?
