Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (3 Viewers)

stop drinking coke and go with water, guys.

skip the fries and pile up the peanuts.

use those few bucks you save on every meal and maybe in 50 years you can buy a home in california right next to an In N Out.
Or just go to a real restaurant where $10 for a burger and fries allows you to order your burger medium rare instead of well done, and isn't served to you in tinfoil.
If I sit down anywhere for a burger and fries, typically I'll get a beer and pay a tip - Now I'm in for $22-$25... Even without the beer, I'm in for $15-$17 and I don't think it'll be that much better than Five Guys.
If you are spending $15-$17 for a sit down burger it better be Houston's. There are a lot of burg n beer joints around town in Miami, I get what you are saying with the craft beers. But you understand that $20-$30 for some folks is a lot of wasted money? I get it, you can spend $50 a meal, there's a lot of folks like that in here but we also have some folks that need to pinch a few pennies to make ends meet.
A lot of overrating Houston's lately in this thread.

Went to Chili's for lunch today. Had a nice little Fresh Mex Bowl for a lot less than whatever I would have gotten at 5 G's.

Vega's Burger Bar, used to be called Flip's but copyright infringement, name change. Juicy 9 oz burger cooked to order with hand cut fries and a coke, decided to spring for a bottle of Dogfish 90, bill was $15+tip, about $19 out the door. Had a little corner table in the back to myself listening to some deep house on my sound cloud app.

Wonderful way to spend an hour and a half.

Just drove 3 miles out of my way for one of these

Almost called an audible to jack in the box since they aren't local it I've been thinking about it all day thanks to this thread

I ate chobani yogurt and a banana for lunch today. Much cheaper than anything i would have gotten at five guys
I typically have lunches like this on work days. The women make fun of me, but I dont like eating much when Im working, and its my only meal where I eat healthy on a consistent basis so I stick with it. Plus it leaves more money for 5G's to lighten my wallet on those occasions on those expensive $8-10 meals.

I was going to cash out my 401K so I could get some 5 Guys today, but I went online and realized I didn't even have a 401K. It's this kind of financial savvy that kept me in the land of the Value Menu, until I realized that I actually didn't even have a job. When I snapped out of it completely, I saw myself facing the mirror in a stained wife-beater, sobbing uncontrollably while using tongs to eat Ramen from a shoebox.

Dad?

what's Jake's? Your buddy's backyard?
Dallas burger joint. It's pretty damned good.
So, some local place in Dallas that nobody has heard of does a better job than a national franchised chain? Well this changes everything.
I challenge the FFA to have a thread on burger chains without it devolving into this within 3 pages. unpossible
jakes is a chain.

hth

They don't yell "at" you. They alert their co-workers that customers are entering.
Is anyone old enough to remember when the cashier would speak into a loud speaker what you order as you ordered it?
Wow, have totally forgotten about that.
They still do this at Zantigo.
I remember going to a Zantigo's. It turned into a Taco Bell when I was in high school. My wife misses their chilitos.

what is everyone doing for lunch today?
PB&J
how much did it cost? did it come with additional peanuts? did you throw the cap to the pb on floor? Where did the jelly come from? Did someone scream "TWO SLICES ON THE DISH" when you prepared it? How does it compare to taco bell? How does it compare to the local pb&j shop that nobody else on the planet knows about? Was it wrapped in tin foil? Did you eat some candy corn while you waited for it to be prepared?

1) About 30 cents I doubt I could have gotten out of 5 guys for that

1A) Didn't seem extra nutty

2) I did not, my wife is also home

3) It's Smuckers so you know it has to be good

4) No screaming

5) I haven't had PB&J at Taco Bell but I am an FFA FBG so everything I prepare is truly, utterly delicious.

6) I kick their asses see above

7) Served naked no foil

8) I wish I had some candy corn

I'm in a suburb of LA, CA.

A Five Guys opened up (inexplicably) in the same shopping complex as an In-n-Out.

Despite the long llne and full dining room in the newly-built 5 guys, i decided i'd check it out, see what the fuss was about, within 2 weeks of the opening. Loved the myriad options for toppings. Dug the fries. Not bad. The deal breaker was i came out of that place spending $14 for a hamburger, fries, and drink. Really??

I hit up In-n-Out once a week, as i'm a single guy who doesn't cook. I've never left there speding more than $7 for a comparable meal. When i went to In-n-Out last week, the drive-thru was packed(it's always atleast 8-10 cars long, but this time 15+), so i decided to walk-in the restaurant and order. Line too long, Dining room full. So i thought i'd go ahead and walk over to 5 guys and bite the bullet ($$). Here it was only a year later, i walk into 5 guys, NO LINE, ONLY TWO PEOPLE IN THE DINING ROOM.

Not sure how much longer before that location is forced to close down. Genius move, or more likely arrogant move on their part. Opening a restaurant next door to IN-n-Out..

Sorry, but you're not getting a comparable meal from In-n-Out. You get a ton more food from 5 guys, both in volume and calorie count. Not that you actually need that much food in one sitting, but you're certainly getting significantly more.

You're right, it's not comparable In-N-Out is better.

Having worked in franchise retail site selection, I'm surprised that Five Guys allowed a franchisee to open in the same complex as INO. retail franchises usually require some type of exclusive with the landlord for their core business use. While no restaurant gets a food exclusive, usually a sandwich shop or burger joint or smoothie shop will be able to get exclusive for that particular use. So I guess I'm surprised that INO didn't have an exclusive, and that Five Guys corporate was ok with the franchisee locating there.
