Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (2 Viewers)

This thought just occurred to me, does INO advertise using commercials? Seems like every fast food joint that is at least a regional chain has commercials, but 5G's doesnt. Impressive their business has expanded so much in the last 5-10 years without the use of commercials.
They do a lot of radio, never seen a TV add.
On tv all the time.
Glad somebody could set this straight finally. Not that it changes what I think of INO vs 5G since Ive never had INO, but interesting that a place like that that's so successful in its region still spends a lot of money on putting commercials on TV.

Why is that interesting?
Because It was something that crossed my mind since pretty much all fast food places still advertise via TV commercials these days despite DVR, etc, yet 5G's never has but still has expanded across the country at the same time this past decade.

Seems like INO has their clientele already sold so why waste loot on commercials?

Same reason everyone else does.

Walking into a Five Guys, you are immediately assaulted by large signs lining the walls, proclaiming how great everyone says Five Guys burgers, fries, and hot dogs are. You’ll also notice giant boxes of peanuts, still in their shells, free to customers standing in line along a metal rail that reminds me of a cafeteria or amusement park food court. The employees I’ve encountered were neither friendly nor unfriendly; they were simply there to take and prepare my order, nothing more, nothing less. The seating accommodations, signage, and architecture seemed hastily – and cheaply – assembled.
Yup.

It's a blog with exactly one post - a review of In-N-Out vs. Five Guys.

Yep, case closed, obviously.
Check out this guy.... :lmao:

This is absolute bull####. You cherry picked a franchise of 5Guys before the improvements they are pushing out and you made no mention of the franchise lot number.

This entire comparison can just be thrown away as it’s rife with personal bias. I’ve been a fiveguys early adopter since the 90s, so I know a thing or two about this. I’m probably one of the most experienced in this country when it comes to their fries. I can tell you without a doubt, you were unfortunately served Eastern Washington Russets – that’s the problem there. Those need to be worked into over at least 2k fries before you’ll really even be able to appreciate them. LOL, you think you can just walk in pick up some 5G:EWRs and just chomp away… Ok noob.

While I understand the work you put in, I’m highly disappointing. Costco food court…. Oh, that’s just libelous. I’m going to wait for the rebuttal from more serious personalities.

Or… Maybe I’ll bring some of my personal reserves that I vacuum sealed down to Utah in May, that would really open your eyes.

The In-N-Out fries were better
Insta-wrong.

However, In-N-Out fries are definitely more "potato-y". Other fast food places, the fries, while crispier, generally pack less potato flavor. Whether this is an important factor or not depends on the individual.

I'm not sure what In-N-Out's milkshakes are all about. I just know that they are reeeaaally thick. Like strain your-neck-trying-to-suck-it-through-a-regular-straw thick. The flavor is good, but the viscosity doesn't seem right. I haven't had a 5Guys shake.

This is why I always take girls on 2nd dates to In N Out. If they don't struggle too much with the shake then you know they're good at giving oral sex.
In a row?

...assuming that your junk is the size of an In-N-Out straw.

Not quite as pointy.

So if you rob them of soda, you can keep it under $10.
I actually got kicked out of a 5G's because a manager/assistant manager noticed I was coming in and bringing in my previously used 5G's soda pop cup for a refill. I dont know if she was looking for a promotion or what, but I was like "damn, you care that much about your fountain drinks"
:lmao:

This is a shtick, right?
Nope, no lie.

I was traveling once a week for school at that time, this was 2-3 yrs ago. Got my lunch a couple times at that 5G's on the way to school or back, whichever. I kept my cup I guess because why not for a free drink next week, and I figured why not keep it and get a free refill next week when I might not get lunch their on my way in case im not in the mood. But yeah, this "manager" called me out and basically said she had seen me come into 5G's and just fill up and refill without buying anything, bounce after a couple times (which was true, but seriously, you watch #### that close?!). I just threw my cup in the garbage and told her I didnt realize fountain drinks had reached the price of getting a promotion, good luck, you must be on the fast track!
And you are proud to tell that story as the manager being the #####?
Somewhat, but mostly because of people who think they are on the "fast food freeway" to a promotion by clipping me because I want a free soda pop that I was overcharged for in the first place.

I'd like to think the managers of an establish like that are doing more than being fountain drink gestapos.
I saw a woman do this at McDonald's the other day and my jaw nearly hit the floor that someone else does this. It also convinced me I either spend too much or not enough time on here, because I was completely aware and prepared for what she did, which I otherwise wouldn't have been.

She just marched in with a McD cup, filled up, and then left. Nobody batted a lash.

These all look so good!

Idk how they rank I&O as best in California, pretty ridiculous.
Pure laziness IMO. Burgers are the most prolific American food in California. He probably didn't have the inclination to try to pick a single best burger place in the entire state. He'd have to start with a top 50 and do a ton of investigation and research.

I mean, the guy says he doesn't even like I&O. But he picked it.

Laziness, I say

Now that Bob from The Chive says In-N-Out >>>>>>>>5G I think we can put this to bed.

Meatheads - Smashburger - Tom & Eddie's - Fuddruckers are all better than 5 Guys IMHO

Meatheads has the same fresh cut fries and better burger offerings - Smashburger and Tom & Eddie's have milkshakes that are ridiculous and Smashburger's olive oil rosemary & garlic seasoned "smash fries" are awesome, while Tom & Eddie's has better gourmet burger offerings - Fuddruckers has been doing gourmet burgers for about 3 decades and has held a place near and dear to my heart since I discovered them in Houston back in the '80s. 5 Guys is good but there are better offerings out there for the same price point.

No In & Outs here in Chicagoland

:kicksrock:

So to throw in another sandwich place. Had Jimmy Johns for the first time a couple of days ago. Absolutely not seeing it. Really my grocery store deli makes a better sub. It was very pedestrian and that's being generous.

Yeah, I remember one opening up in school, and just remember thinking of it as a cheap, crappy sub alternative to Subway. I haven't had one since then, but I've been surprised to hear people speaking pretty highly of it.

Well damn....now I get the disconnect. How is "best burger" in a state from a chain? I don't know how that's even possible.
They picked a chain in DC too; one that is nowhere near best burger in DC. Odd list.
This is what I go to the Chive for - Bad Ideas for the Weekend. Stick with what people are good at.
Agree. Hump day and Mind the Gap mondays are
FLBP doesn't hurt either. Well, not the viewer at least.

Pic number 25 this week was certainly all that.

It's not even that good of a chain. I paid $7 for a burger there, and a $5 burger at Five Guys is better.

Oh, and Five Guys is still overpriced.

I have yet to have a hoagie/sub or cheesesteak from a chain that is even close to as good as you get from any Mom & Pop place here in PIttsburgh (probably true for any city)

I just noticed that the whole burger list is a plagiarism of a Business Insider list. Down to the same exact pictures and text accompanying them.

Pittsburgh has good street food.

Doing some Moo Burger in an hour... Basically bc of the 50 pictures I looked at yesterday. Major diet buster :bag:

This thread is unhealthy for me.

The JJ Gargantuan is about 400 billion times better than anything Subway can crank out.

Made a huge mistake today at lunch having to settle for Hardees and not waiting to get into Burger King(yes they both suck but I had limited choices and time).

Got the 1/3 lb Bacon Cheese Thickburger which was very bland and the fries were even worse.Thankfully the drink washed down what I could eat but Hardees(Carls Jr to some)is now on my never visit list.Horrible.

8 bucks wasted.
