Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (1 Viewer)

Was in Staten Island yesterday and tried Standard Burger

They won best burger in NY and were featured on the CNBC show The Profit.

I was very impressed with it.

Tasted fresh and was very juicy.

Good size burger and the price was actually cheaper than what I was expecting.

$9.38 got me their basic cheeseburger burger with fries and a fountain drink.

My friend got the Texas burger and it was like $10.50. That included bacon and onion strings.

They have lots of higher end cheeses and such and even have beer.

The fries were good.

Had potato skin on them and a bit of the soggy feel/look but not 5guys soggy.

Would def recommend to anyone in the area.

What's the consensus on Dickeys BBQ? I'm sure we'll get a few ######## BBQ purists who will chime in and tell us how terrible it is but IMO it's pretty damn good for fast casual BBQ

Dickey's is not bad. But there's another chain called City BBQ that blows Dickey's out of the water. It's only in 4 states though. First store was 15 years ago, so it's been growing pretty steadily.

Have one of these City BBQ's in Cincy (or at least they used to...in Hyde Park). It was pretty tasty for "fast food bbq". Sides were always on point, but the pulled pork could be dry at times. It worked just fine in a pinch.

I don't recall a Dickeys in Hyde Park. Are you talking about City BBQ?

;)

It was right there beside Kroger, in front of Biggs.

Just left new 5 guys down road from my house. Amazing milkshakes and I like to think of myself as a milkshake connoisseur.

Recently had Cheeburger Cheeburger. Always a great meal. Burger was good, nothing great, but onion rings and fries were awesome and one of the best shakes I've had.

Been to bareburger once, when I was not hungry - wife who had been anti-beef for, well, ever.... suddenly is on "beef is ok if it's grass fed" kick. f'n chicks.

Anyhoo, "best burger she ever had" (which means one of the worst five she's had since childhood, also). It did look pretty solid, and the fact that you have to actually order how you want it cooked almost in and of itself separates from the places like 5 guys where,if its such good fresh meat, why do they only sell it cooked to death and back?

One just opened up near work, and I look forward to checking it out myself.

They just signed a lease in DC, will have to check it out.

It's ok but the beans are awful.

I like good beans, and got the jalapeno beans. Zero flavor whatsoever and the beans weren't cooked down enough.

Everything else was decent.

Maybe I can convince the gf to go to the one that just opened by us for Valentines day.
It's all organic, try to be locally sourced, blah, blah, blah (because whatever benefits from that I've probably squashed by the time I drive there and back, but hey, whatevs) - but the chicks dig it.

Five Guys today.

Fries are meh. Burger tastes like mustard cheese. Bun is sesame seeded again.

I hate this ####. In-N-Out is saltier, but maybe better.

I don't know, I think I hate both these days.

Interesting bump, I had my first in n out experience yesterday. Very underwhelming. Five Guys by a good margin. Shake Shack too, and nothing continues to come close to Fudruckers.

Had 5 Guys while at a tennis tourney with wifey and the daughter.  3 burgers, 2 fries, and 3 sodas = $45.

WTF?
Well your first mistake was 3 sodas. Free refills and the machine right there. 1 soda, 2 cups of water, there's $5 in savings right there.

3 people, 1 large fries is sufficient, another $5 right there.

Couldve done it for $35.

I don't get the 5 guys hate... Haven't had it in forever for dietary reasons, but I've been wildly craving that greasy goodness.

Anyone else try zinburger?

Probably one of the best burgers I've had. Itching to get there again.
yeah ive had them a couple times at walt whitman mall on Long Island. More of a sit down restaurant / bar.... but a burger better than any other mentioned here probably.

This stuff is still repeating on me today. I'm actually offended.

My Five Guys hate knows little to no boundaries right now.  I apologize to Five Guys lovers; I just can't see it.

5 Guys in Hoboken closed and good riddance IMO.  So many better burgers available for what they were charging.  I got really tired of the poor quality from 5 Guys so I hadn't been there in a while, but the competition is just so much better.

When you have to start planning out your fast food to make it more affordable, there's an issue with the cost.

The Munchery.com burger is really good, especially for the price.   You have to order it like a week ahead though.  It's always sold out.

So you are telling me I have to order it a week in advance, pay $12+ per serving, and cook the meal myself?

I think we can finally shut this thread down, we have found the worst fast food burger in America.

What about "order it a week in advance" and "cook the meal myself" is "fast" food?

Went again after another tennis tourney.  3 burgers, 3 fries (one of daughter's friends was with us but she's a vegetarian and only ordered fries and I'm on the no potato diet), 4 sodas = $48'ish.

I dare say though, the burgers are ALMOST worth it.

3 fries?  That has to be like 8 pounds of potatoes.  I never order more than one order of fries for my family of four and it is plenty.

We're talking about great burgers and it's 100+ pages long.  I thought my experience there was relevant.   I 2nd doubted myself when I realized it might be regional, but since I'm in the 2nd largest metropolitan area of the US, I thought it might be beneficial to a burger guy out there somewhere.  Chances might be slim, but if one person out there benefits from my posting, then it was worth while.

Where the hell is Fudrucker's these days? The one in Annandale closed.
There is one by me in SoCal.  We go every once in a awhile, would be better if the burger was hot when it got to me.  Havent been to 5 guys in awhile.  Habit and In N Out still tops for me
