Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (2 Viewers)

I think Burger-Fi is a much better choice...

If you are 18-35 and a guy who simply wants a better burger than the ff crap and just want to get in and get out, 5 Guys is perfect.

But for the same money I get lots more choices and options at Burger-Fi including but not limited to Custard Floats, Premiuum Craft Beer and Sodas, lots of toppings and choices for my fries.

I think Burger Fi is a tad more expensive than Five Guys...guess it really depends what toppings you decide to add

plus 5 guys is a better tasting burger

This is the crux of it - and imo, 1000% wrong.

Five Guys purposefully burns their burgers. It's well done. Heck I believe they relish in that fact by stating it.  Any burger that has to be served well done (and is therefore really dry other than some grease) can not be considered anything more than another wendy's or mcd's.  Maybe better than that but not on par with anything else (and, again imo, not even better than Wendy's though I could see the argument. Since they are essentially on par).

Does Burger Fi cook theirs only to a well done spec? I figured they were a better option than mere fast food, like In n Out and 5Guys.

It's $6.50 for a burger at 5 Guys, none of you are ordering that skimpy little junior burger...

It's $5.97 for a double stack at Burger-Fi

My math is on record as being not so good here but...I think BF is cheaper. I like BF a little more because I can get a craft beer. I would rather have a craft beer n burger, skip the fries then have a 5GBurger and have no options other than soda pop out of a machine.  That's why both establishments flourish. Do you have a BurgFi in your area, they are not quite everywhere yet I don't think.

And taste? Burger-Fi has way more options of toppings and they have other premium burgers like the 28 which will run you closer to $10 but 5Guys offers nothing on that level.

Yes I've eaten there.  Co-worker lost a bet and had to buy me lunch.  It was over $30 for 2 of us for well topped burger, loaded tots (or fries I forget) and a soda.

havent been back and likely won't,  there's a similar place near my house too that's a fancy overpriced burger

Not in the same tier as 5 guys IMO

Have you been to a Wendy's in the last 5 years or so?  Burgers are awful now

Yes. A couple months ago. Still as good as 5G, though I admit if 5G didn't go no holds barred well done perhaps that would be different. Problem is whatever better quality/taste is destroyed by their (over) cooking methods.

Then again, the fact that there is such a debate here says a lot about 5G.

We're staying in an AirB'n'B directly across the street from the 5 guys in Miami Beach.

Zero desire to see if my previous mediocre experiences were isolated to So.Cal.

As an aside the minis at Oh' My Buns are ridiculously good.  I could crush a dozen and go back for 13ths.

While its been years since I have been to a Fuddruckers...never thought it was any great burger.

Has something changed?  The one one in Nashville closed and I never heard anyone talk about going there.

5 guys got big here (though, several places I like locally over them...Gabbys, Pharmacy, Burger Republic, and Rotiers)

Chick Fil A trip report.

I had the deluxe spicy chicken sandwich. The chicken was excellent and moist but the sandwich itself seemed dry. It needed some kind of spread. I should've gotten the BBQ sauce for it that someone mentioned because that would have been tremendous. On its own as a sandwich though, meh. The waffles fries were just ok. A little too salty. Not memorable.

Overall: C+

why would you do intricate on first trip to any restaurant?  get the basic. you don't go to italian place first time and order the oso buco, you get the pomodoro.

I think I prefer the basic spicy over the deluxe. That damn chicken is so good that I think I prefer it with just the pickle (and hot sauce if I'm taking it home) over the the lettuce and tomato. I could even see all the other stuff on it somehow making the overall sandwich seem dry.

Thinking the fries are too salty is very odd. I didn't even think they salted the fries and the only complaint I've ever heard about the fries is that they are bland.

Can someone talk to me about Arby's? I've never eaten at one, but I see the commercials all the time (2 already this morning). Actually looks delicious in the commercial, but I'd guess they're mediocre at best IRL.

Yes,  mediocre. They're no Roy Rogers.  Good curly fries.

I happen to LOVE their roast beef. Its like double processed squared, but their Arby's sauce is one of my absolute favs (along with Roy Rogers, but similar with strong vinegar component to a tomato(ish) based sauce).

While I prefer Roys in general, their Roast Beef can be inconsistent, though perhaps a bit more "real" than Arby's.  I get a Double R burger or Fried Chicken though if I am at Roys.  The fixin's bar (love their pickles, too) rocks also.

More of a fan of the pepper sauce if I venture to an Arbys.

Its mediocre hot roast beef. (worked at one at the end of HS...actually don't have any terrible stories about the place...our manager was very particular about following all safety rules, throwing stuff out at the right times and everything).

Used to dig Hardess hot roast beef or hot ham and cheese when I was younger (when they had such things...I think they still have the ham and cheese)

Yeah.  Basic chick-fil-a sandwhich is much better than the deluxe.

Strips with Chick-fil-a sauce is my go-to.  Spicy chicken biscuit with honey mustard for breakfast.

Mediocre but I get a craving for it from time to time and around here no real alternatives.  Beef n cheddar is good and i like adding the horsey sauce

theyve really expanded to other meats now (brisket, corned beef, etc).  The market fresh sandwiches are actually pretty good too

Regular fries suck but curly or potato cakes are foid

dammit I kind of wavy Arby's now

Swenson's in the Akron/Canton Ohio area.  Its a local chain and been around a long time.  Lots of the locations are a drive up, leave your headlights to be served and they run out to take your order.  Great meat (they put some brown sugar in it), buttered,  fresh baked buns, good shakes/malts.

Man, I miss this place a lot.

Any FBGs in the area been there?
When I was a 15 minute drive away it was a weekly detour. 30+ now, so maybe once or twice per year. My waistline thanks me, but my taste buds are pissed. Don't blame them.

Grew up thirty minutes from there but never heard of it. Wonder if it was around 30 years ago?

Yes - I was there 30 years ago eating until I didn't feel well - and they started in the 30s.

Also - Forbes voted Swenson's BEST BURGER IN THE COUNTRY in 1999.

It's like you got drunker during the composition of this post.

Just had In-N-Out for the first time last week in SD.  Have been to 5 Guys many times.

Burgers are about the same, really, except that 5 Guys give you more topping choices.
Fries, frankly, both suck.  5 Guys are soggy, I-N-O are tasteless and were cold in 2.5 seconds flat.
5 Guys yells at you, but gives you peanuts.  I-N-O is a little cheaper, but gives fewer options.

Final tally:  That anyone has a decided favorite of the two is ludicrous.  They both have decent burgers and crappy fries. nufced.

Might want to factor price into that evaluation as well.

Five Guys is OK, but If I want to drop $13 on burger and fries, I'll go to a local burger place and actually get a nice meal.

If I need a value burger or I don't have time to sit down for more than 20 minutes I'd choose the following:

Hardee's/Carl's Jr.: Monster Burger Combo

In&Out:  Double Double Meal

Whataburger: Double Cheeseburger Meal

All can be had for $10 or less and I am happier than 5 Guys Experience.

Btw, few things in life as overrated as a Shake Shack burger. It's tasty, don't get me wrong - but that's it.

Shake Shack's chicken sammich though, that's pretty awesome (but pricey).

Well I went twice.  Once was better than the other.  Burger step below 5 guys. Fries awesome
Yea, now that I reread it, I can see where it meant overall mediocre, burger good. It just threw me first time I read it.

San Antonio Express News Reader's Choice Awards just released. None of these places made it for top Burger. However, for top Burger chains, the results were:

Whataburger

5 Guys

In-n-Out
