Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (3 Viewers)

I feel Mooyah is similar to five guys.  It is good enough but seemingly overpriced for a casual fast food burger.
Its pricey, but I think they put out a more consistent product when compared to 5 Guys. I haven't been to 5 Guys in a while, but there were times I'd unwrap my burger and wonder what the hell happened. Still tasted good, but wasn't necessarily visually appealing. I haven't unwrapped a Mooyah burger yet and not been all smiles about what I'm about to eat.

Never heard of this place.

Looked it up and see that it's essentially nationwide - and we are getting one soon in Little Rock.  Nice.

Burgers look pretty good in the pictures ...

Our premium chain around here is a local deal called David's Burgers.

Pretty damn good - though I don't like their hand cut thick fries, would much rather have them thin/crispy.

The fries there totally suck. Unless they've changed the past few years. They were bad enough that I only went once.

For those in the DWF area, Jakes makes a really solid burger in line price-wise with the Shake Shacks and 5 guys of the world... more of a sit down place but I recommend for a good greasy burger.

You been to the Burger House yet on Hillcrest?  I miss that place.

Never heard of this but unlike In N Out there is a Freddy's in NJ. Will check it out as my reward for losing 25 pounds. (halfway there)

That's just a few things, download the whole menu, place is fantastic. Bun is top notch and often overlooked.
I might get back over there.  Tried it on a night out of brewery hopping (its next to a brewery in Anaheim, CA).  Not a big fan of all the extras on the burger so overall its not for me.  But the one I did end up with (after some removals) was pretty tasty.

Went to In N Out last night in Vegas for a quick bite.  Double double animal style was really good.  Those "fries" though?  I have no idea wtf they are.  They don't even taste like potatoes.  Crispy, dry, fried sticks of something.  Not impressed.  Lesson learned.

I had a crappy road trip, followed by a bunch of family events that had us out of the house at meal times over the weekend, so I had more fast food Thursday-Sunday than I typically have in a month.  Some thoughts:

  • I tried the new McDonald's guacamole grilled chicken on an artisan bun.  Everything in there is slippery - I couldn't even focus on how it tasted because I had to just wolf it down to minimize the mess.
  • I tried the new McD BBQ/bacon/fried onion burger on an artisan bun.  It was better than anything else on the McD menu, but nowhere as good as that burger combo at real restaurants.
  • Cold Chick-Fil-A is still great.  The waffle fries suffer, but the sammich is still tremendous.
  • Smashburger's olive oil fries are really nice.

My wife tried 5 Guys for the first time the other day. She said it was just OK. But the next day it gave her worse gas and poops than White Castle, and that's saying a lot.

Five Guys has triumphed over In-N-Out in a battle of the burger brands.

The chain received the top spot in the burger category in The Harris Poll's annual EquiTrend Study. This is the first time Five Guys has been crowned the burger champion in the study, which asks respondents to rate brands based on familiarity, quality, and how likely they are to consider purchasing its items.

Is this true? This place?

There's one right in town and I've never been...

Lots of people bringing piss to a s*** fight.
I was on hiatus, probably, when you started this thread.  I eat here plenty, ALWAYS a regular 2 patty cheeseburger, lettuce wrapped, with raw onions, tomatoes, jalapeños, pickles.  No sauces. Small fries, seasoned.  No ketchup there, either.  #### you sauces.

Love.

I have not.  Putting it on the list!

This area ain't lacking for decent burgers through... or chicken fried anything (not that I'm complaining about either)
I know this is a burgers thread, but have you been to Torchy's Tacos yet?  Not fast food: order at counter, take your number to your table.  One of my favorite casual chains in Texas.

no. but I will, now!
Menu

Don't have a particular recommendation on the tacos.  They're good across the board.  I lean towards Mr. Pink and Mr. Orange, but that might be because it's relatively easy to find good beef and chicken tacos up here in flyover country.  And that's not a misprint - there really is a Dirty Sanchez Taco on the menu.

If you're there with a group, must order the Green Chile Queso & Chips.  The cilantro and "diablo" hot sauce elevate the queso quite a bit.

IIRC they started in Austin.  Have spread to Dallas, Houston, and all the big college towns in Texas.  Just expanded to Denver.  Norman OK and Tulsa are getting locations soon - the Norman one might already be open.

Burger is on the salty side, but still better than In-N-Out.  Jalapeno fry sauce rules also.
Ever been to Friendly's?  This looks like the same place - all the way down the building and menu (though no fried clams).

Note:  Looked it up ...apparently they are not related.

Where the hell is Fudrucker's these days? The one in Annandale closed.
The one in Tysons Corner shut down.  I think there is still a Fudruckers in Fairfax at the corner of 123 and 29 (ETA: Nevermind...it is "closed for renovations".  I do like being able to decorate my own burger Fudruckers style.  There is one in Ashburn open though.

Too bad, but I think it's going the way of Shakeys, Chesapeake Bay Seafood House, and Mr Gattis.  Great NOVA chains that eventually couldn't turn a profit.  Chi-Chi's is still around, but you have to go to Asia or Europe to find it.

F*** you for posting this from us Northern FBGs.  This looks fantastic.

There used to be a lot of Friendly's in Ohio, but they've pretty much disappeared.

The ice cream there was okay, but nothing like Graeters or Jeni's. Heck, even United Dairy Farmers had better ice cream than Friendly's. And the food was nothing special.

ETA, I think Freddy's is more like a Culvers, but with a smaller menu.

Friendly's inside the Southwyck Mall in Toledo, OH was my first job.  Manager was your usual loser #####, but the patty melt (med-rare - toward the rare side) on Texas Toast was the best I had ever had to that point.

That Reese's Pieces sundae was the greatest thing ever.

Have a Fudruckers and two Shakeys still near me in Orange County, CA.

Ok, off to In N Out for lunch!  May even get  2 orders of fries!  :pickle:
