Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (1 Viewer)

At Smashburger this week.  Mediocre but good burger.  Awesome fries.
This may be sacrilege in a burger thread, but since a Roast Beef sammich was mentioned...

The truffle mushroom swiss grilled chicken is about the best eating out chicken  sandwich I've had. I like to get it with the egg bun and add tomatoes and sliced onions. It's a mushroom swiss grilled chicken with a truffle mayo sauce.

mooyah burger might be better than both In and Out and 5 Guys, only had it a couple times recently but it was damn good and I will go back there before any other burger place imo

Whataburger stinks
http://www.businessinsider.com/what-its-like-to-eat-whataburger-restaurant

Pretty unbiased critique. He doesn't slobber all over it and state it's the beat all end all but, in the end....

I'm impressed with Whataburger in the end. Their menu is rather expansive for a burger joint, offering many other melts and chicken sandwiches as well as burgers, and the prices are average. The burgers themselves aren't outstanding, but the option to customize the toppings to such a degree certainly is. I see what you're talking about here, Texas.

So a Wayback Burgers just opened near my house.

Anyone have opinions or reviews?  Local reviews weren't great the first weekend it opened (too slow, untrained staff) but the food reviews were good.  Looking for outside opinions.  Seems to be a competitor to 5 guys and Smashburger from looking at prices.

Jake's Wayback?

Really, not a bad burger place, but the caloric count is off the chart.

I like the cheesy burger with fries. Probably like it better than In-N-Out or Five Guys, though Five Guys is definitely growing on me.

Evidently is the same place, but they are now known as Wayback Burgers.

Wayback Burgers, previously known as Jake's Wayback Burgers, is a fast casual restaurant chain based in Cheshire, Connecticut. Wayback serves typical hamburger restaurant foods such as hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, milkshakes and salads along with a variety of regional selections.

Ah, okay. Yeah, I used to live in CT and they expanded into our hometown. Not a bad burger at all.
I liked it well enough.  The double bacon cheeseburger w/ fries and a drink was over $11 tho.  Not sure it was worth that when there's a Whataburger a mile farther down the street.

Also, the fries were good but very plain.  Like I don't think they even had salt on them.

Just had Five Guys again. The fries still sucked. It is like a potato loaf -- there's a heaping helping, but not much crisp or crunch to the individual fry. I do like their burger more and more; it's less salty than In-N-Out. In-N-Out has been so salty the last three times I've eaten them that I've been disappointed.

And I have never heard them yell about being in the door.  :shrugs:

Pricey and meh.  Haven't been back in a long time.

Just had In-N-Out for the first time last week in SD.  Have been to 5 Guys many times.

Burgers are about the same, really, except that 5 Guys give you more topping choices.
Fries, frankly, both suck.  5 Guys are soggy, I-N-O are tasteless and were cold in 2.5 seconds flat.
5 Guys yells at you, but gives you peanuts.  I-N-O is a little cheaper, but gives fewer options.

Final tally:  That anyone has a decided favorite of the two is ludicrous.  They both have decent burgers and crappy fries. nufced.
Only reason to go to 5-guys is for a large fry well done.  Burger is average.

Granted I was hungover and really just needed grease to feel normal again, but I was very impressed with Smashburger.

For those wanting a totally overpriced chicken tender, hit up your local El Pollo Loco.  Man, I had high hopes.  Their chicken is outstanding but the tender?  Pretty much a fail.  $9.25 for 4 rather small tenders, a heap of very average fries and coleslaw, which I don't even eat, and a small drink.  Saw the commercial for these this weekend, have an EPL within walking distance, thought I'd be going 3-4 times a week now.  Nope.

a little late posting this, but I had in-n-out for the first time in Dallas last month.  it was ####### lit.  way better than 5 guys.  fries were good too.  cannot wait to go back.

Comparing a burger to 5 Guys is like comparing a soda to RC Cola.   It ain't coke. It ain't even pepsi.  Not the highest of thresholds.

Do. Not. start taking shots at RC Cola, the greatest cola in the history of colas. RC Cola. For kids!

Thing I don't like about In-N-Out is is they inteniontally slow things down.  They want a long line.

They are not so busy it should take 20+ minutes for a burger. It's intentional.

Nothing they cook should take more then five minutes.  Not saying you should get your order in 5 minutes.  Just 20 is a joke.  Wait in a restaurant for your entree in that time.

Having the long line is a psycholgocial thing I gurantee it.

:lmao:

Anyone in Socal will tell you it's 10-15 minimum.  When it's busy 20 plus.  It is the best fast food burger but 20 minutes is a joke when you usually want fast food.
I've experienced a 35 minute wait, it's not unusual. But to think it's intentional is

The In-N-Out at the end of my block in Van Nuys, I've never had a 10 minute wait when I'm inside. Never. Drive-Thru, well, you never know what idiot is ordering a 6x6 or 15x15 in front of you. Especially the one-lane drive-thrus. The nice In-N-Outs with 2 lanes and the kitchen in the middle, those you can get thru pretty fast.

Really thinking I'll hit the 5 Guys for a cheat day tonight. There's one pretty close, with an In-N-Out and a Chick-fil-A on opposite corners. Maybe I'll hit all 3.
It's your world, we just live in it

Lies.  Wendy's is garbage now
Then your local restaurant has let you down. Mine has kept up its standards. Dave Thomas would be proud.

I have not had decent Wendy's meal in years.  I have been to 3-4 different ones over the last few years and been disappointed every time.  Used to love them.

And geezus, their chicken nuggets are gooey inside ...really, really bad.
