Better than one of those double-decker pizzas?
Yes.  The only actual double decker pizza I ever saw was from this place that was located underground in Syracuse, Indiana.  It was one not very good thin crust pizza placed on top of another.

Friendly's inside the Southwyck Mall in Toledo, OH was my first job.  Manager was your usual loser #####, but the patty melt (med-rare - toward the rare side) on Texas Toast was the best I had ever had to that point.
My 1st job as well here on Long Island, NY

My GF's mom was the manager and when I turned 16 she gave me a card that said "Happy Birthday, you start Monday"

Worked at a bunch of different ones around the island b/c the 1st place eventually closed down. Did everything from ice cream, cook, waiter,
and washed dishes.

It sounds cheesy, but as waiters, we could pull in a decent amount of tail if you were personable. Those stupid "comment cards" you left on the table were money.  I remember this one chick i banged came back to the store one day and my GF was taking her to-go ice cream order when we heard a loud commotion. Apparently, the chick ordered 2 sundaes and then followed it up with "and I F###ed your boyfriend." My GF grabbed her by the hair and pulled her over the take out counter and into the fountain area...lol good times.

Patty melts were $$, Fish-a-majigs were solid too. We had this one cook who could make gourmet level meals with just the normal menu crap in the ice box. It was great to work with him on Friday nights, b/c he would get in early and make a spread for all the other cooks.

Have a Fudruckers and two Shakeys still near me in Orange County, CA.

Ok, off to In N Out for lunch!  May even get  2 orders of fries!  :pickle:
Do ya know if your local Shakey's still has the lunch buffet?  That used to be a weekend staple for me and my buddies back in HS.  All-you-can-eat mojo potatoes and pizza?  Hell yeah!

They most certainly closed the one in Costa Mesa or I'd be 30 pounds heavier.   :oldunsure:

[David Caruso in CSI]  hmmmm... sounds like a real..... friendly place.... [/David Caruso in CSI]

Heading to 5 Guys for the first time in a long while right now.

Grabbing a Grilled Dog with bacon, jalapenos, relish and mustard....mmmmmm. Regular fries and a pop.

Excellent junk food lunch.

I want to say yes.  Both are on Valley View, one right off the 405/22 off-ramps and one up near the 91.

We had a Five Guys open up about 10 miles away about a yr ago. Wife and I went for the first time yesterday

I had a double - mayo, ketchup, lettuce and tomato.

Wife had a little with mushrooms.

We shared a regular sized regular fries.

We don't have the other options near us that you guys post about in here but I guess I'd be surprised if they were better than five guys. Burgers were delicious, fries were great too. I don't know why we haven't been there before this but we will definitely be going back

They were out of milk shake mix ?

My local McDonald's still has that orange Hi-C stuff that people were freaking out over the removal of. I tried it for the first time recently... meh. It's OK, but much prefer Coke, Dr. Pepper and Sprite.

Was a mainstay of high school back home. Went to the Glen Cove Friendlys myself... it then became a series of other restaurants.

And now it's a freakin auto parts store. :sadbanana:

Cool.  Yeah most of the time a little burger is big enough unless your starving.

my local one became a Stat Health walk-in medical clinic  :sadbanana:

The fist friendlies I worked at was the one in the Smith Haven Mall, had to be back in 1990'ish

So after 136 pages, I think the takeaway is that a burger is a burger. None of them stand out above the others. It's just a matter of personal taste.

Had me some Fanta Strawberry - highly carbonated and delicious - at Hardee's on my way up to the Delaware shore.  They had surprisingly good lightly battered chicken fingers as well.

Ive noticed that overall, chicken finger inthe fast food segment have really raised its game over the past couple years.

There used to be a lot of Friendly's in Ohio, but they've pretty much disappeared.

The ice cream there was okay, but nothing like Graeters or Jeni's. Heck, even United Dairy Farmers had better ice cream than Friendly's. And the food was nothing special.

ETA, I think Freddy's is more like a Culvers, but with a smaller menu.
One guy owned all 13 Friendlys that were left in Ohio and he closed them all in one day a couple of years ago. Nobody had any idea he was closing them. 13 Friendlys one day, poof, zero the next.

My brother singlehandedly had changed the policy of the one where we lived. Everyone knew that they gave you small amounts of ice cream in really thick glasses to make it look like you got more than you really had. As a poor high school student, my brother got wise and ordered a half gallon at the takeout area and took it over to where his buddies were seated and asked for a spoon. The workers tried telling him that he wasn't allowed to do that, but my brother pointed out that there was no sign or anything written saying that you couldn't. So of course the next time in, they had a sign that said "For Takeout Only" at the cooler.

Fam in Vegas this week, just got home. Had our first In n Out experience. Crazy busy, loud, tough to find a seat. Burger very good, especially for the price. Fries suck donkey. I'll pay twice as much to have 5 Guys twice a year and enjoy it 10× more.

Had 5 Guys for the first time in years. Still a really tasty burger and the fries are still good too. The shake wasn't all that great. Also, the meal was friggin $18.

I've never had In n Out but heading to Vegas this weekend so might have to take the plunge.

My biggest issue with 5G is they absolutely destroy their meat... it's SO overcooked.  Now, part of this might be the fact that they are using somewhat better quality meat with less salt and god knows what else makes say a McD's edible (pink slime?), but the result is a super well done, very dry burger.  I can do that at my house (but I don't, cause... why destroy the burger by drying it out)?

My fav burger is still a FatBurger GRILLED... fresh meat, large enough and made to order without going super well done.

Never heard of Fatburger
SoCal based chain building of LA's rep of burger joints... sorta 50;s/60's style but not full menu diner, just walk up order, wait 5-8 minutes and then get your burger.

Fresh meat, pretty sizeable burgers (especially the "King Burger"), solid steak fries but best well done... they can cook up the burger on the griddle which is the default, but I always ask for it to be grilled... so much better imo.

went a got a hot ham and cheese at Hardee's earlier this week, awesome as usual.

Side note : I noticed they had a combo meal for this burger that had an 11 dollar price tag on it...wtf

Will have to look it up. Flying into Ontario in a couple weeks

In n Out online menu sucks. What do you get there? I mean I know its burgers and fries, but toppings on burgers? And what's the shtick with the fries?

Had 5 Guys for lunch.  Burger was super, just above medium.  The medium fries were their typical meh.  Had to take out a 2nd mortgage to afford lunch there, but hey, you only live once.

You get either a single or double cheeseburger with sauce, lettuce, tomato, onion (or customize it and leave some of that off).  You get terrible fries.  You get a Coke and/or a shake.  That's it.  That's what they have.

I've only tried 5 guys once, my burgers were cooked through but juicy

The fries are freshly cut and fried; tastes like cardboard sticks. Order them well done for better crisp, then liberally salt and pepper them.

It's all secret menu!  THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT SO COOL!!!

Hitting up In N Out today for the first time in 6 years!

Had Whataburger in Dallas earlier. Awful burger. Don't get why people like this place

Pretty much what most burger places have

Having moved to Dallas I got a lot of how awesome Whataburger is.

Whst it is, is not that good. Apparently some of their non burger offerings are good?
