Sorry, but I have to really disagree. A person should only be charged and arrested if the state truly believes he is guilty of a crime. He should not be charged or arrested for political reasons, to satisfy the public, or to "clear things up." When Zimmerman was charged for 2nd degree murder, I made the argument that the prosecution would not have done so unless they had convincing evidence not known to us yet. I ridiculed people like jon_mx and Christo for suggesting that the prosecution really didn't have much of anything, and that Zimmerman was being charged for political reasons. I didn't want to believe that because I have a strong belief in our system of justice, and in the integrity of prosecutors like Angela Corey. Now it appears I was very wrong. Unless there is something I'm missing, (and I've tried to read as much as I can about this case) I don't think the prosecution has any more. And if that's true, then it was a shameful injustice to arrest George Zimmerman and charge him with 2nd degree murder. It was giving in to the mob. I hate that. It's not what we're supposed to be about. I think Zimmerman is a racist, and I think he did something very wrong that night. But unless you have evidence, you can't charge him. Just like we did with that crazy lady in Florida who most likely killed her daughter but was found not guilty?The problem is that we'll only get Zimmerman's side of the story. We'll never hear Martin's side. Even if we did, that still likely wouldn't be the real truth.

What's more likely is that there won't be enough evidence to convict Zimmerman, and there will be MORE protests, allegations of a racist jury, more "retaliations" by stupid kids against perfectly innocent people, etc.

Justice will never really be served. There will always be people that will believe that Zimmerman is a stone cold murderer that tracked down and brutally shot a perfectly innocent young child. And there will always be people that believe that Zimmerman was just watching out for his neighborhood and was forced to shoot and kill a drugged up thug that attacked him unprovoked. I believed then, and do now, they decided to prosecute him based on public pressure and trying to avoid a riot situation in Sanford. It may yet happen if/when charges are thrown out or he is acquitted given that I expect certain segments of the media to fan the flames pretty good. It's not just Zimmerman, what about the police chief that was run out over this situation? It appears now that the police may have made the right call all along on whether there was enough to prosecute. If indeed they have no more than what is shown now, it's the person who decided to take this forward, not the police chief, who should lose their job. That's not what will happen though.

Justice has nothing to do with viewpoints. It has to do with punishing someone for committing a wrong. If Zimmerman was truly defending himself from a young man who got offended for being followed and attacked him, then there is no justice to be served. If Zimmerman is at fault then justice would be served by him being convicted. What people perceive has nothing to do with justice.

Sorry, but it is illogical for me to believe that all Zimmerman did was ask Martin what he was doing there, and Martin responding by knocking Zimmerman to the ground and slamming him with punches. That just doesn't fly. It doesn't ring true to me, and it won't ring true to a jury. Zimmerman MUST have said something or done something that Martin found threatening. Maybe he didn't mean to. Its illogical for you to believe Martin jumped Zimmerman, but is it logical to assume Zimmerman jumped Martin? Just on the basis of the injuries sustained by Zimmerman I would have to go with Martin initiating it. That is not to say Zimmerman couldn't have pushed Martin's shoulder or something, but I would think you'd have to at least consider it 50/50.

I don't think it's logical to assume that either guy "jumped" the other. I think the most likely scenario is that harsh words were spoken and then somebody took the first swing. According to Zimmerman's brother, words were spoken in which Zimmerman said nothing provocative, and then Zimmerman turned around, walked back toward his car, and Martin attacked Zimmerman from behind. Presumably this will be Zimmerman's testimony (though we won't know until he says it himself). I don't believe this, though it's possible.

This is your version of his brother's story. In the story I read, Tray approached Zimmerman from behind, spoke to Zimm, Zimm spoke back, the Zim started to pull his phone out of his pocket and got punched, knocked down, etc..

I think the situation had escalated to a point before the arrest that it may be better for Zimmerman this way. At least now, if acquitted, the mobs #'s will be cut in half of better.. This was the best way to silence the mob and get them off his ###. This way, all of the evidence is available to the public, rather than the BS spin Martin family lawyer has been putting on everything..And I think this may have been a calculated move on the part of Florida, to do damage control, both for local law enforcement, and Zimmerman. I can't think of any other reason why the evidence of the case had to be public knowledge.

I see no reason why he shouldnt have been arrested , there are enough unanswered questions in this case to warrant an arrest. Conflicting witness accounts being at the top of the list. When you have an unarmed kid shot to death people want to know why.You cant just go by the perps word that it was self defense.People lie all the time and if ever there was a reason to lie , standing over a dead body and holding a gun is it. The only way to find out what happened that night is to have a trial .If the evidence proves him guilty then so be it, it not then at least its been shown for all to see.Isnt treyvons life worth at least that?

Think about what you wrote in the bolded section for a moment. There are not supposed to be unanswered questions to warrant arrest. Arrest should be warrented when the questions are answered, not unanswered. Charging a person with murder is a serious thing. Our system shouldn't be doing it in order to solve a mystery- the mystery should be solved before we do it.

Think about what you wrote in the bolded section for a moment. There are not supposed to be unanswered questions to warrant arrest. What I described above I heard in a radio interview, so I can't link it. I've also heard what Carolina Hustler related as well, and that seems equally implausible to me. My main point is this: I don't get why Martin would just attack Zimmerman without provocation. Maybe he did, but I'm not buying it.

I don't care if it's better for Zimmerman or not. I don't care if it was designed to prevent a riot (and I don't believe there would have been one anyhow, but that's beside the point.) You don't arrest someone unless you think they are guilty of a crime. If this was done for any other reason than the prosecution believing that Zimmerman committed murder, then it's a stain on our judicial system. It can't be justified.

Arresting Zimmerman without evidence to avoid a riot is not simply giving into the mob, it's also racist as well. It suggests that the Florida government believes that these people can't control themselves, that angry blacks are going to rampage unless Zimmerman is put behind bars. I know that bigots like Clinton believe this sort of thing, but it's depressing to think that the state of Florida believes it. It's offensive and insulting.

We don't know exactly what was said, but if Zimmerman didn't physically or verbally threaten Trayvon, Trayvon should not have attacked him..

And here is a real problem for Zimmerman's defense. Yes, as I've written, based on what we know, he should be acquitted. But I still think this is a problem. Why did Trayvon attack him?

Sorry, but it is illogical for me to believe that all Zimmerman did was ask Martin what he was doing there, and Martin responding by knocking Zimmerman to the ground and slamming him with punches. That just doesn't fly. It doesn't ring true to me, and it won't ring true to a jury. Zimmerman MUST have said something or done something that Martin found threatening. Maybe he didn't mean to. Maybe it was misinterpreted. Or maybe Zimmerman deliberately said or did something threatening, knowing exactly what he was doing. Either way, Zimmerman is covering up something when he claims that he was attacked from behind for no reason whatsoever. Are you willing to admit this?

Its illogical for you to believe Martin jumped Zimmerman, but is it logical to assume Zimmerman jumped Martin? Just on the basis of the injuries sustained by Zimmerman I would have to go with Martin initiating it. That is not to say Zimmerman couldn't have pushed Martin's shoulder or something, but I would think you'd have to at least consider it 50/50.

I don't think it's logical to assume that either guy "jumped" the other. I think the most likely scenario is that harsh words were spoken and then somebody took the first swing. According to Zimmerman's brother, words were spoken in which Zimmerman said nothing provocative, and then Zimmerman turned around, walked back toward his car, and Martin attacked Zimmerman from behind. Presumably this will be Zimmerman's testimony (though we won't know until he says it himself). I don't believe this, though it's possible.

What I described above I heard in a radio interview, so I can't link it. I've also heard what Carolina Hustler related as well, and that seems equally implausible to me. My main point is this: I don't get why Martin would just attack Zimmerman without provocation. Maybe he did, but I'm not buying it.

If Martin attacked Zimmerman, I believe it was because he was teaching someone a lesson. "Don't F with me, I'm a bad ###"Have you really never seen a young man attack someone for no justifiable reason? That's hard for me to believe, I think we've all seen this, more than once..

Have you really never seen a young man attack someone for no justifiable reason? That's hard for me to believe, I think we've all seen this, more than once..

Of course I have seen people attack other people for no reason. But in this case, in order to justify Zimmerman's reaction (which was pulling his gun out and shooting Trayvon Martin to death) there has to be more, for me, than Travyon just attacking him. Travyon had to attack Zimmerman in such a manner that Zimmerman believed himself about to die. And THAT is what I find implausible without reason. I can see Trayvon throwing a punch or two without reason, maybe. But to try and kill Zimmerman without reason? To slam Zimmerman's head against the concrete constantly, and throwing "mixed martial arts" punches constantly, with lethal intent? Without any reason? I don't get that. As I've repeated now several times, the fact that Zimmerman sustained injuries is enough for a reasonable person to acquit him based on the possibility that it was self-defense. There is no way that I can see to eliminate that possibility, and therefore Zimmerman should not have been charged. But I also think any reasonable person should also doubt that it actually WAS self-defense, because there is no motivation for Trayvon Martin to kill George Zimmerman.

Sorry, but I have to really disagree. A person should only be charged and arrested if the state truly believes he is guilty of a crime. He should not be charged or arrested for political reasons, to satisfy the public, or to "clear things up."

When Zimmerman was charged for 2nd degree murder, I made the argument that the prosecution would not have done so unless they had convincing evidence not known to us yet. I ridiculed people like jon_mx and Christo for suggesting that the prosecution really didn't have much of anything, and that Zimmerman was being charged for political reasons. I didn't want to believe that because I have a strong belief in our system of justice, and in the integrity of prosecutors like Angela Corey.

Now it appears I was very wrong. Unless there is something I'm missing, (and I've tried to read as much as I can about this case) I don't think the prosecution has any more. And if that's true, then it was a shameful injustice to arrest George Zimmerman and charge him with 2nd degree murder. It was giving in to the mob. I hate that. It's not what we're supposed to be about. I think Zimmerman is a racist, and I think he did something very wrong that night. But unless you have evidence, you can't charge him. This is a witch hunt; it's not justice.

Think about what you wrote in the bolded section for a moment. There are not supposed to be unanswered questions to warrant arrest. Arrest should be warrented when the questions are answered, not unanswered. Charging a person with murder is a serious thing. Our system shouldn't be doing it in order to solve a mystery- the mystery should be solved before we do it.

I notice that you have a tendency try to justify your own bigotry by "spreading the wealth"- demonstrating how others share your repulsive thoughts. Fortunately for all of us, you're wrong about that. None of the people you mentioned here are bigots. It's not racist to worry about a riot. It is racist, IMO, to take drastic action based on that worry, such as the arrest of George Zimmerman. What people like you never seem to get is that every time we have had a race riot in American history the vast majority of African-Americans living in the area in which the riot took place do not partake in it. This was true in the Watts riot of the mid 60s and the Rodney King riot of the early 90s, in which I was caught right in the middle of the first night it took place. There are always terrible anecdotes, but reasonable, non-racist people don't fear angry black mobs. Only bigots such as yourself regard these as a constant problem that America should be fearful about.

To be fair, specific intent/premeditation to kill can be almost instantaneous. He didn't need to intend to do it when he left his car but may have developed the intent upon talking to the kid. Of course, this also means that Martin would not have been the initial aggressor. However, I see your point. IMO the murder seems like an intentional overcharge to incentive a plea to something like manslaughter.

Timmy, because you think with feelings and not logic, you have a tendency to demonize those with opposing views and to read into their views the worst possible intentions. For instance, you mention that most black people don't riot -- no ####, Sherlock. I never suggested that most black people have rioted or will riot. All it takes is a small percentage to be upset enough about how the justice system handles this nationally known case that the small percentage takes to the streets. That would still constitute rioting. The article I linked above by a black author discusses this possibility. Black centered websites have discussed this possibility. It's not "repulsive" to discuss this as a possibility. It's an adult approach of looking at this case from all possible angles. As for "spreading my repulsive views", it's obvious I can't sway you because you won't allow your feelings to be to be swayed by arguments coming from me. That's why I share news articles of other people who are obviously non-bigoted and who share the exact same "repulsive" views.
