Former STP lead signer Scott Weiland is dead (1 Viewer)

:( I've always liked STP a lot. I loved that raw rock'n'roll energy that radiated off of Weiland. It's too bad he was shackled by the chains of addiction. He is unchained now. RIP

Always felt like they were second tier below Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, but the first two STP albums were really good imo.
Is Smashing Pumpkins in that conversation? AIC?

The young guy that teaches next door just found out about Weiland this morning. He was a big STP fan back in the day. This morning we were standing outside our classroom doors letting the kids in. We broke into a quick tribute by singing the chorus to "Plush" using our best Scott Weiland voices:

When the dogs do find her
Got time, time, to wait for tomorrow
To find it, to find it, to find it
When the dogs do find her
Got time, time, to wait for tomorrow
To find it, to find it, to find it

The kids just stared at us.

not very contrarian of you

Favorite band in the HS years. As mentioned before like when MCA passed it's a real punch in the gut as its the music you grew up to. Awesome band....so sad drugs got him to a point where he was touring dive bars with scrubs and dying on the bus. Smoke the weed but stay away from these drugs that take over and ruin your life. Terrible.

Some old STP music videos for your listening/viewing pleasure:

Interstate Love Song
My favorite
Yep. Two perfect minutes. ...or three.
We're playing a show in January, and just added this tune to the set list to pay tribute.
This was my one of my go to karaoke songs when I did that every Saturday night while in university.
Any chance you'll be in Houston on January 23rd? You can take the stage.

Was trying to edit and accidentally deleted my post because I'm a drunkard. Gotta get us a youtube of the slang doing that tune though

Good band (STP); GREAT frontman.

I always thought Big Empty was their best song but you don't hear it played much any more or mentioned as one of the best.
My circle of friends has been arguing Core vs Purple forever.

I'm in the purple corner but honestly I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.

I argued hard to have Still Remains as our wedding song.
its definitely Purple, that's when they branched out and showed they are legit and will be around for a long time.

DeLeo brothers still playing music?

It's a shame drug problems broke this band up. You could tell things were getting weird when the Tripping on a Hole in a Paper Heart album came out.

They were making music with Chester from LP but they just recently broke up. Also just played with joss stone on Jimmy kimmel

Went to find the video of Vaseline from a year or so ago and looks like it's been scrubbed from YouTube for the most part.

Not sure if I saw it linked here, or somewhere else, but some recent footage is out there. Think it was from late October and his pipes were solid.

Sucks that Chester left STP since it's looked like he was doing a great job.
Chester is the man and with all due respect to Weiland and the guys in this thread ready to pounce on my next statement......

Linkin Park made better music than STP.
I don't think any of their albums compare to STP's first two (maybe three) and STP created great music via several different methods. Linkin Park's good ones follow a similar formula. I think they have more high points than most give them credit for, but they're not on STP's level.

My drunk STP rankings:

1. Wicked Garden

2. Interstate Love Song

3. Sex Type Thing

4. Vasoline

5. Crackerman (underrated)
