Fragile Fred.. let's put it to bed (1 Viewer)

I know that a lot of people got burned by some ill-timed injuries in the past to the esteemed Mr. Taylor BUT...

He's missed an average of 1.75 games per season the last 4 years. I haven't done much research but I would be willing to bet that this is not a terrible ratio of games played/missed for a starting RB in the NFL.

So can we please put the super clever "Fragile" nickname to bed? Maybe "Former Fantasy Favorite" Fred for all of you who enjoyed his 11 TD second half in 2000 like I did...

Just caught Marshall Faulk and Rod Woodson on The NFL Network disection the AFC South, when talking about Taylor they mentioned on 8 years he's only had 2 "full" seasons, they both agreed,as former players,if you've been unable to stay healthy your first 8 years, your not going to stay healthy in your ninth year. He'll always be "Fragile" to me,in a nice kinda way.

One of the issues with Mr. Taylor is not how often he's injured...it's when. He has typically "worn down" toward the end of the year - leaving most teams scrambling in their FF playoffs. One only has to go back to last year to remember what a cake schedule the Jags running game had at FF playoff time - only to have Freddy watching most of those last few games from the sideline. For most FF owners, he disappears just when they need him. Until he can stay healthy weeks 14-16, the tag will likely stick. And, as he's nearing 30, I don't see him shaking it anytime soon.

How about:

Fred "Who's the back up? Who's getting the goal line carries? Forced to make a decision wether or not to start him each week" Taylor

Here's another:

Fred Taylor - There is no substitute*

* except for Maurice Drew, LeBrandon Toefield, or Alvin Pearman

I like that one.I have been burned by him many times. A buddy in my league told me "He explodes about every 3 years", to which I replied, "those are called 'the only years I didn't draft him.'"Yet here I am again, needing a RB#3 and he is the best of what is left. *sigh* he is on my team again. At least this time it is as a backup. And he will ALWAYS be "Fragile Fred"

He missed 5 games last season and in two others he had less than 10 carries because of injury. I'd say the "Fragile Fred" tag is more than deserving. He had a good run in 2002 and 2003 but he's missed 7 games the past two seasons.

Check 2000, he single handedly carried my team through the playoffs and won my championship.
