I believe that... the one character in the book Boobie Miles had a story somewhat similar to Slash, but it still wasn't a complete match.

I've actually gone to 2 local HS football games because of the show and book. First game I went to wasn't very good but I went to a game last night and it was pretty cool. It definitely got me interested in the atmosphere of the game.

Season 2 features Tyra at her hottest and is the last we see of Minka Kelly as a regular. It's certainly worth watching.

Yeah, I've never seen a show turn over so much of a cast so quickly. I thought they pulled it off brilliantly. Seasons 4 and 5 were actually my favorite.

I don't think the girlfriend thing was an issue. Very common for upper class guy to date freshman or sophomore chicks in high school.The Riggins stuff made no sense though. Kind of the same thing happened with Saracen and Landry. Not sure how they weren't in the same class given how close they were.

I agree. I think that just had to be done that way. They graduated many the kids and the coach switched schools. It felt different because they had to introduce a whole new set of characters, a new school, and a new side of town. It was a near impossible task, really, and I thought they pulled it off wonderfully.

I don't think FNL is the best show ever (not terribly far off though), but I've always felt like it was the perfect drama for a husband and wife to watch together and both enjoy equally. It sucks it didn't work out that way. What should've been a ratings monster with the whole family tuning in every week turned out to be just the opposite. My guess is that men thought it would just be a stupid TV version of Varsity Blues (I did) and that women thought it would be "just a football show".

Started S4 today and I found Wallace, D'Angelo!

I'm looking forward to it, I like where it seems to be going and the East Dillon setup from S3 seems like a good way to keep the show fresh and not have everyone go to San Antonio State, including Coach Taylor (ala Boy Meets World.)

Although, they once again had to adjust some of the kids ages/classes by having Julie and Landry turning out to have been freshman back in S1.

Knocked out the series on Netflix over the last month.

Like many have said what a great representation of a marriage. Chandler was very good but Connie Britton is the star here.

Thought an underratted element of the show was the relationship between Saracen and his grandmother. Definetly some of the best scenes in the series. Saracen probably my favorite character in the series.

Did feel a few of the major "moves" in the series were pretty weak or better yet not deserved. Lazy writing.

Taylor wins state then the next year loses an epic game in the state championship. A game in which he makes a gutsy halftime adjustment, putting Saracen back at QB, and they nearly make a incredible comeback. So what happens then? Taylor gets canned. To top it off the stud QB, J.D. McCoy, who they decided to roll with instead of Coach Taylor inexplicably leaves after his sophmore season. No reason given.

Now on to Mrs. Coach. She becomes the principal. Everyone apparently adores her. The school makes Blue Ribbon for academic success. She gives counsel to a pregnant student following legal requirements and guidelines. Girl decides to get an abortion. Mom protests to school board and causes a stir. Boom, Mrs. Coach shown the door.

So Coach Taylor and the beloved principal are canned after great success and no one in the community really comes to their defense. No cheesy student vigil?

Wouldn't take too much imagination to find better ways to get both Coach Taylor and Mrs. Taylor over to East Dillon without such ridiculous machinations. It was just poorly done.

Overall really enjoyed the show despite it's many flaws. I will say it is my favorite show dealing, or not dealing, with statutory rape.

Was cracking up when they nearly ended the series with Riggins downing a cold one.

Other than Friday being a terrible night to try to build an audience, I really don't think this show was actually meant for football fans.I think they tried to market it that way at first, but ultimately, this is a chick show that men will love too. The football is only important in that it can keep men on the couch long enough to fall in love too. They can tell themselves they are watching a football show, even though they are really caught up in a chick drama. Then after terrible Season 1 ratings (gosh, I can't imagine why....) it started Season 2 on Fridays.

my wife and I just ran through the entire series in a little over a month. damn good show, and I already miss it. even though I know it's impossible, it's one of those shows that I wish would just go on forever. a new batch of characters works because of the turnover of high school. a new location works because of the turnover of a coaching job. I'm really looking forward to the movie "sequel" to find out what the Taylors have been up to.

my favorite character was coach. like someone else said, he was frequently gruff and critical, but always with the intention of doing the right thing. just an amazing acting job by Kyle Chandler.

and "Tim Riggins" has become a regular part of my vocabulary. what a great character.

Not sure, but Riggins was such a great character and he was born to play that role. You'll never find a more realistic and just awesome set of tv parents.
