Friends with a stud athlete or famous person. (1 Viewer)

Was wondering if any of you guys/gals were/are friends with someone who was a really talented athlete, or someone famous. My twins are best friends with someone who is arguably the best all around athlete in our district. This kid is always being recruited by baseball teams, basketball teams, and football teams to play for them. It is funny to watch them interact because they never talk about sports, and just like to play video games and hang out. Guess it is a relief for the kid to get away from all the competitive sports. I catch myself getting caught up in all his hype by asking him what he thinks about this team or that team, or just talking about sports he is involved in. My wife finally made me stop.

Wife is good friends with Roy Green and Charles Barkley. We don't see charles that much but Roy frequently. Way better going out with them, no lines, VIP usually comped, etc. Charles gets hounded by fans constantly. People mistake Roy for Deon Sanders which pisses him off. All in all fun guys though.

Too bad you didn't move to the Mission. Roy would have loved the backyard of Zeitgeist.

I played softball for a couple years and became good friends with this guy.

Great guy, awesome athlete and hilarious too. We had some good times back then....

Calling BS here
 ETA: OK, I'll bite. Why do you think it's BS?
:lmao: I think he's kidding cause there's no telling who that guy is. Is he a local celeb?
Pretty much. He was the first guy in the Milwaukee Admiral Hall of Fame, and still is one of their all time greats.

Hell, closest I ever got to being friends with a celebrity.

As a youth I was real good friends the situation from Jersey shore. He wasn't this huge doosch back then. Last I spoke to him was around the second season of the show. I just couldn't handle him bragging endlessly about how amazing he was doing, got a little annoying. Now that he has been indicted for federal tax evasion and I'm crushing life, might be a good time to check in :)

Don't know if any of you guys remember David Fulcher, but back in the 90's I met him in of all places Somalia. He was touring with the USO along with Stephen Baker. Anyway, I was assigned duty to provide security for Fulcher, and Baker. Baker had just won a SB with the NYG, and was such a tiny guy it was hard to imagine he played NFL football or any football. All of the guys in the 1st MEF wanted to challenge Baker to a 40 yard dash. After running about 8 40's and winning by just enough to not embarrass those guys Stephen just said, "send out your fastest guy and I will race him." Stephen really turned on the "JETS" in his last race and we all saw why he played in the NFL. David was such a large guy for a DB 6'2" or 6'3" probably 240lbs, and was one of the nicest guys I ever got to call a friend. Over the years we stayed in touch, but once he was traded to the Raiders we fell out of contact. When David saw my Warren Moon jersey I was wearing, he told me that he was personal friends with Moon, and sent me a ton of Moon gear when he got back to the states. Good guys.

WTF is a Milwaukee Admiral?

I use to work with a guy who came from money, but worked a regular 9-5 gig to do something. Great guy, huge hockey fan and otherwise non-discript dude.

he told me this story where he and his wife would go to atlantis during the Michael Jordan Pro-Am tournament—basically a bunch of jocks and actors playing golf.

one night he is at the bar with his wife and he goes to use the mens room. When he comes back, she is shooting the poop with another woman....talking about kids, school, youth sports, etc. She mentions her husband was coming down in a second, only to be Brett Hull. The 4 of them share a drink and the wives exchange cell numbers.

a year later, Mrs Hull text my buddy wife and asks if they are coming down for the tourny, and offers to make dinner ressies for the 4 of them.

while at dinner, Hull mentions that they had extra tix to MJ's party and they should join them....

crazy, and normally I wouldn't believe it, but just recently, I am refereeing a charity hockey game and a few former NY Rangers are playing in it. I see him outside smoking a cig and he tells me he is personal friends with Stefan Matteau (who was playing) and he came down to watch.

Good buddy at work is tight with Clayton Kershaw. They went on a mission trip to Africa about 4 years ago with their wives. Think the wives were friends through A&M.

My best friend is the head girls basketball coach at Branson High School, so long story short, I'm a pretty big deal.

Do they still bang your wife?

I used to see former Tiger GM Randy Smith all the time at Einstein Bagels, Smith would go there early every morning. I went there quite a bit and got to know him. Smith ended up giving me Tiger tickets all the time. Of course they were losing 90 games a year at the time so nobody gave a chit about them.

We coached one of Nick Lidstroms kids and Nick ended up going to the bar with us a few times. It is amazing because Nick was the best defenseman in the NHL and you go to a bar and hardly anybody ever recognized him. Nick was truly a nice person. Chris Osgood met us one night and he was a little doosh. Osgood actually got pissed when people did not know who he was. Nick liked it when nobody knew him.
