Furniture stores seem somewhat regional, so for the purpose of my question I am located in Illinois (South Suburbs).

We need to get a new sectional and chair/recliner.  We went through the nightmare that is Bob's Discount Furniture last November.  We couldn't find anything we liked at any other store and the model at Bob's was just what we were looking for.  They tried to deliver three times and each time their particle board/cardboard furniture was broke somewhere.  Guy delivering/picking up said he had a whole load of returns and not to accept anything.  They did refund us our money without a fight, so I'll give that to them.

We still have a 6 year old bonded leather sectional that is worn down to the fabric in a lot of spots, so we need to get something and with Labor Day sales (not sure if that makes a difference) coming up, it seems like a good time to buy.  We definitely won't be buying anything other than 100% leather this time around.

TLDR- What store(s) do you recommend for a quality leather sectional?

We had the same issues with finding stuff and finally went to Macy's furniture (Oak Brook) and we're very happy with ours. Hardwood frames, no cost fabric choices and the best thing is it was pretty close in price to the Ashley's/Bob's of the world but way better quality.

Just bought a new couch at Haverty’s after 14+ years with another couch from Haverty’s. Not sure if they’re in your area, but they are a little pricey for better quality furniture imo. Macy’s is solid too. We buy a lot of Amish (Mennonite) furniture too. Its made well and lasts forever.

I have some good real leather furniture but for the money I don't think I'd buy it again. The modern microfiber fabrics last an incredibly long time, can be cleaned, and are far more pet resistant.  We've got an almost 10 year old microfiber set that looks sort of suedeish that has held up way better than leather. And that's with a couple active dogs on it all day. Couldn't remember where we got it but @Osaurusreminded me. Haverty's here as well.

My main furniture is from Haverty's but anything I don't use very often is from WayFair.  Just bought an armless sofa/sleeper from them this morning.  If you aren't too picky and just read the reviews you can have a pretty good experience buying online.  Measure your space.  Make sure the dimensions and color on the piece are what you want.  Point and click.  You'll get what you pay for.

Lazy Boy is OK, not great.  Furniture is probably the hardest thing to buy.  Online is the best deal, but a sofa is something you want to sit in before you buy. Most retail places sell marked-up crap.  Ikea is good for what it is, if you live close to a store.

Like you said, most furniture is retail, but I would say you are lucky to live near a good retailer.  We had a good place but it closed down 10 years ago.

What’s your budget?

Bobs stuff is ####. Most times you get what you pay for.

we spent more, got the kiln dried on the wood. Got a lifetime warranty on the frame. More now, but overall lifetime cost ($/yr) less I bet. and much nicer. that said, we are in a house that we won’t leave for 20 years, with some confidence. I might make a different decision as a renter likely to move a few times in next 10 yrs

Most of my furniture is from Raymour and Flannagan.  Not insane quality but looks good and holds up more than well enough for me (no kids, no pets).

I have one chair from Crate and Barrel that is really nice but was kind of a waste of money (just because I dont use it very often).  In my office, I have a 10+ year old couch from Ashley that has held up great. Cushions are starting to get a little weak, but after a decade, for the money I spent, no complaints.

And yeah, I have absolutely no idea what constitutes a good deal on furniture. I was all set to buy a sofa from like Pottery Barn (which was nearly 2X the cost of the R&F I ended up getting). Can't tell the difference looking at them or sitting in them, so i just didn't' see the point.

Macy's, Bloomingdale's, West Elm, Raymour and Flannagan, cray and Barrel... All big name, reputable places with affordable stuff where the quality ranges from fine to good.

Online spots like Wayfair, the floor for quality is waaaaay down. But also has stuff that's fine. Ymmv in a big way, so research is your friend.

ETA...fwiw, we've looked at joybird in person, and it's good quality and decent looking. Not sure about leather for them.
