Future vs. Current Fantasy Draft pick value (1 Viewer)

I have a chance to trade some extra 2008 draft picks for 2009 draft picks. I seem to remember an article of thread on this topic, referencing Parcells (?) theory on this. Something about a 2nd this year being worth a 1st next year, etc.

Anyone able to expound on this discussion or direct me to the original article/thread? TIA

Some people will tell you that a pick in round N+1 this year is worth a pick in round N next year.

I'm not one of those people.

I think trading away your future 1st round picks for 2nd round picks is a horrendous strategy in the long-term. A 1st round pick in 2006 is worth as much as a 1st round pick in 2007 is worth as much as a 1st round pick in 2008 is worth as much as a 1st round pick in 2009. Don't believe anyone who tells you otherwise.

There is no inflation on draft picks. Just because the pick happens a year later doesn't make it any less valuable than a pick this year (unless you really think your league is going to fold soon).

So I would suggest that trading 2008 picks in round N for 2009 picks in round N-1 if you get a chance. On average, it's like moving up an entire round in your without giving up anything.
