g-men targetting Julian Peterson (1 Viewer)

Peterson really didn't show the speed and playmaking ability in his return from the ACL injury that would make him a hot commodity to teams in offseason, especially when you consider his price tag.

I see this guy asking for way too much and then re-signing with SF when he realizes that no one's going to spend the kind of cash on him that he's looking for.

Niners got alot of money (~$30 million under the cap) to play with, so his return to SF is not entirely out of the question

another thing on Peterson:

The guy is much better when he plays a role where he can freelance and doesn't have a specific assignment, and can move around. I'm not sure as to how structured the G-Men's Defense is, but this is definately one factor to consider.

Word out of SF is that Peterson didn't fit in really well with Nolan, who ran a more structured Defense as opposed to Mora Jr. who tailored his defense to Peterson's strengths and let him play a variety of positions and line up in a few different places

I don't think he'll come back to SF. In fact, on an open market I can see him taking less money to play somewhere else.

Good points about JP freelancing and how that doesn't fit with what Nolan wants. Shoot, thats why Winborn got the boot.

I just hope SF puts the Transitional tag on him so they can control where he goes and get something in return, whether it be a mid round pick or even a late day one pick.

Too bad Peterson had the dumbest agent on the planet and advised him to turn down that fat contract SF offered 2 years ago. Nice move. Thanks Mr. Poston...

I have not gotten the impression that the niners are even hinting at bringing him back yet. FWIW Andre Carter they hint about

I'll be surprised if NY lands him. They're under the cap but they don't have a ton of space and they've got to resign some of those Defensive Tackles. Peterson isn't the player he was 3 years ago. He's on serious decline. I don't know that I'd even want him over Emmons. If the Giants were going to take a LB from the Niners I would've much preferred Winborn in midseason. That move would've paid dividends considering how banged up they got.

Peterson's injury was an Achilles tendon tear.....not an ACL. I'd be leery of giving him any kind of long term/big money deal as I don't think we've seen the recuperative process for the Achilles injury be nearly as successful as ACL rehabs. He did come back last year to play in 15 games and register 83 tackles (59 solo), three sacks and six passes defensed...but that might be as good as he gets....and that's not worth big money.

This would be a scary linebacker corps if they can grab Arrington as well, who may well stay in the NFC East out of spite for the Washington organization who has tried to seriously devalue him.

strahan is due to make some insane money this year. It's rumorred they'll work out some deal to lessen it and throw him a ton when he retires. I know that's illegal against the cap and all but I think there's something to those rumors. Maybe someone else can explain shady deals better than I.Anyhow that's where the cap $ could easily come from

Actually, Arrington and JP would make it probably the most overrated LB corps in the league. 2 guys wanting to freelance every play? Not gonna work, IMO.

Couldn't agree more. Arrington and Peterson would satisfy hype requirements but wouldn't pay dividends on the field. I'd rather have Witherspoon (although he'll be too expensive).
