Game of Thrones, tv only, books don't exist, no backstory...NERDS already ruining a series that hasn't started (5 Viewers)

Great plot moving episode.  I think every scene had something I enjoyed from it. Ian McShane was awesome, the Hound is awesome, House Mormont was awesome, Sansa getting told off was awesome, Cersei getting told off was super awesome, even Arya's scene and its resemblance to the red wedding stabbing was awesome.

Whole lotta folk got slaughtered without making much of a sound for Hound.
Thought similar, but perhaps he heard them when the slaughter started, it just took him 5-10 minutes to get there and they were gone.

Wouldn't take too long for armed soldiers on horseback to wipe out 20 unarmed villagers.

I have seen the theory put out there that it wasnt really Arya that got stabbed. It was Jaquen . It was odd for her not to have needle and be so careless knowing the showdown with the waif was coming. I have also see it put out there that Arya and the waif are the same person, fight club style. Not sure I am buying that one but it not being Arya that got stabbed has some possibilities

And the second we saw smiling happy valley folk in their pastoral happy land, wife and I looked at eachother and said "dead".
Ian McShane's a pretty big casting coup. I was surprised he got killed off after only one episode.

The House Mormont scene was terrific. The look on Jon's face after the little girl said she had 62 soldiers was great. Jon already has the look of a leader who's been beaten. He needs someone to give him a kick in the ###.

I don't understand.  He was working in the woods and stopped to take a drink.  While doing so he hears screaming and he takes of running.

He seems far enough away that the sounds of him cutting up those branches would cancel out the sounds coming from the slaughter.  When he wasn't making noise the screams could barely be heard.

maybe killing off Swearingin so quickly is how they got him. He can come in for a few days, do his role and get paid, head on home.

So unrealistic.  I wish the writers would get their #### together.

I am being sarcastic

Hmmm.  A girl did name him for her 3rd choice long ago, maybe he is finally making good on that?

I am trying to figure out how someone, especially a girl her size, overcomes such stab wounds. But it doesn't feel like she is going anywhere, now does it.

Just read a theory that Arya and the Waif might actually be a split personality ala Pitt/Norton in fight club.  I like it.

Also the hound returns.

Also Davos is probably my favorite character on the show.

This show doesn't let any of the major characters die
Just like the Walking Dead too.
I think both shows have had lots of deaths. Yes, the key people like Dany and her boys, Tyrion, Varys, Cersei, Jamie, Arya, Sansa, Theon, John Snow, Tormund, etc. as well as smaller characters with big roles like the Hound and the Mountain, have lived a long time, but you've had key characters like Ned, Tywin and Joffrey among others die. In the Walking Dead, we have the key characters alive (more key because they are still alive), but we have also lost Shane, Andrea, Tyreese, Lori, Beth, Herschel and Dale as well as smaller key role players like Bob, Noah, Sophia and of course the psycho Lizzie.

Yeah Ive avoided this thread recently until after the show each week but I was immediately let down when somebody "guessed" the hound would return this week.

Still enjoyed the episode but now with the spoilers coupled with the awful posting in here over the past two weeks I'm good.

Yeah, I think it's time to ignore the thread with only 3 episodes left.

The fight club theory is not a very good one. Why would Jaqen tell Arya to go ahead and kill Arya if it was a split personality? I think that that by itself shows that that theory doesn't make sense.

Personally, I do not believe this hypothesis to be correct.  Honestly though, to me, it would make a ton of sense.  It's not telling Arya to kill Arya, it's telling a girl to kill Arya.  If a girl is holding onto her self, by killing her self she would be a girl completely. :loco:

Those guesses must have come late in the week before the episodes because I didn't see either one of them. I avoid spoilers but kinda thought the Hound might be coming back at some point but didn't know it was happening last night so it was a surprise to see him chopping wood. I had no clue about Benjen last week.

I see what you are saying but still..... the Jaqen comment of something along the lines of "It is a shame, she had so much talent" doesn't make sense.

Loved the Hound back. Not surprised but still was cool to see him back. I like how they did it before they rolled out the credits and we say Rory McCann there.

Loved Black Fish back. Kind of funny how he put Ser Jamie in his place when Ser Jamie thought he had the clear upper hand.

Obviously Sansa is second guessing her telling Little Finger to shove off and is sending a Raven asking for his assistance.

It may be what helps Jon win the fight with Ramsay but it'll probably come with a heavy price. Every deal with Little Finger always comes with a price.

There's definitely some kind of trickery going on with Arya/the waif....supposedly the actress who plays Arya said something to the effect of "people have seen Arya on screen, they just didn't know it was Arya" recently.

Also as far as "spoilers" go, I have to agree that while I really like reading boards like this and reddit after the episodes air, it made a lot of this season less surprising. When they showed the hound I was just like "yep, CleganeBowl coming".

Great that the Hound is back

Hope Arya is not dead

But... There's been a little too much bringing people back from near, sure or absolute death lately which I'm not a huge fan. Martin breaks/broke a lot of traditional fantasy paradigms with this series.

I actually hope we are not just getting everyone back we want to see continue on like that. Part of me felt it was awesome to see another character we loved killed so unceremoniously like that with Arya last night.

BTW... Before anyone complains about me complaining, I love the books/show. Just expressing an opinion here.

Eta: I swear if Stannis shows back up too, I'm out.

If the return of the Hound is 'spoiled' by message board banter then you must not have much of an imagination. Or clue.

It's been all but assumed he'd return since he was never shown as actually, you know... dead.

I can't imagine any scenario where Stannis is not dead. Brienne took his head off.

The Jon Snow thing I'll give a pass, the Hound doesn't concern me because nobody saw him die. He got cut, but then disappeared. Obviously he moved and hid or he'd just be laid out dead. Arya nearly dying or whatever is going on, honestly that entire storyline strikes me as pretty stupid.  Like making her an assassin is cool the entire training should've been done in an 80s montage and knocked itself out two years ago.  I'm at the point where I don't care what happens with Arya, I just want it to move on.

Jon Snow was obviously a 'different' thing. The Hound shouldn't have been totally shocking as he was left for dead and not dead. Who else has there been that we thought was dead or reasonably thought was dead that came back? I can't think of anyone.

The Mountain as well. I'm not sure if you want to count the guy from the Brotherhood without Banners. Not a ton but enough to make viewers suspicious every time someone "dies".

I believe you see more and more fan theories now than we did in the past because the show is ahead of the books now. Years ago book people could give pretty iron clad spoilers on major events . Now that the show is for the most part on its own, speculation is all over the place on many different aspects of the show

Well, we saw the Mountain the whole time.... never were we lead to believe he died though it was more like he should die. I am not sure if we can count the guy from Brotherhood either since never knew he was dead and before and when he was killed by the Hound was immediately saw him brought back.

OK. Feel free to come down from the high horse. There is a difference between speculation and people posting that he's going to be back in the next couple weeks. Stannis sure isn't coming back and whether you like it or not, it wasn't not assumed he'd be returning because he wasn't shown dead, it was assumed because he wasn't dead in the books. Let's be honest, most of the "speculation" is from spoilers (Benjen's character leaked on IMDB, posted in here) or from the book (Hound not dead in the books).

The Hound return was a book nerd theory that the books nerds loved to hang over our heads and rub our faces in.  ### ####ED BOOK NERDS!!!.....I HATE THEM!

Fortunately, this should be the last spoiler that those #######ned book nerds have over us.
