Game of Thrones, tv only, books don't exist, no backstory...NERDS already ruining a series that hasn't started (6 Viewers)

Jon Is Rhaegars son, he has more claim to the throne than Dany.

However, I think they get married and it don't matter
I don't think it matters either way. Baratheons took the throne by force with no right. It essentially passed to the Lannisters also by force, deception and power. Being the "rightful heir" may help somewhat, but having a tiny thread of a claim + the biggest army will win the day.

Yep.  Really the only thing that being the "rightful heir" will gain someone is maybe to garner support among those houses who are disenfranchised with the current regime.

First Question:

Lets assume that the Targaryen line is the rightful heir to the 7 kingdoms.  Assuming that both Jon Snow* and Daenerys want the Iron Throne , who has the royal right to it?  Is it the ******* Targaryen (Snow) or the daughter Targaryen (Daenerys)?  I never understand the rules in these cases.

* I know he doesn't want it and with only Brann's word that he is Targaryen, I don't think anyone would believe it anyway.
I think one thing that people typically overlook is that once you get beyond the obvious eldest legitimate male heir, everything else really boils down to guidelines and only loose ones at that.  It really comes down to finding the person that has some kinda sorta claim to the throne and can also rally people behind him/her.

We saw this twice in the last few episodes with Yara/Euron and Sansa/Jon.

Everyone was all set to rally behind Yara.  Then Euron says he should be king.  Eh, brother of the king, is that more claim than daughter?  Probably not, but wait he just gave a rousing speech and said he was going to make us relevant again.  Screw you Yara, we're with Euron now!

Same thing with Jon/Sansa.  True daughter vs. ******* son.  They went into that meeting not knowing who the leader was going to be.  Littlefinger was counting on people rallying behind Sansa but she didn't really want it and Lady Mormont gave a rousing speech in favor of Jon, and everyone decided that was the way to go.

We saw it earlier in the show too.  Stannis had more of a claim to the throne than Renly, yet Renly was able to garner more followers and a larger army.  Stannis was the legitimate heir, technically, but eh he was pretty far down the line by then and Renly kinda sorta has a claim but I like him a lot more, so I'm going to back him.  Once you get down to 4th in line for the throne vs. 6th in line for the throne it really becomes irrelevant what your number is, just that you have a number and are otherwise likable/strong.

That's why people in power are so afraid of bastards with the king's blood, both in GoT and in real life history.  Even if they never really have a legitimate claim to the throne they have just enough of a tie to the throne that they can gain followers if they are otherwise charismatic/strong.

ETA: Looks like the last two posters beat me to it.

Season 7 plot leaked on line - for all 7 episodes.
ruh-roh.

yeah- this is the only place I come for TV related crap... so I'm immune to the "well, it's all over the internet, so it's fair-game" argument... UNTIL I come in here and read it. hopefully people don't spoil #### with that. I like not knowing what's going to happen in the show.

Hoping for no spoilers in here. I have read some minor ones but will be avoiding the leaks.

Just started the 1st season, binged 5 episodes last night. Love it, wishing death on a lot of characters, punk Joffrey and his mom are on the medal stand.

Has anyone posted that Conor McGregor will have a role in the upcoming season?

Link

Just kidding, I'm too lazy to link it

I just want to see what Dany has lined up for Cersei. I would love for Jon to be the one to end her, but the pain Dany would bring upon her would not be swift or a knife to the throat. How will anyone kill Sir Gregor?

Binged watched the entire series over the past 3 weeks. I regret not taking a liking to it earlier.
Just finished Episode #60, knowing there are 14 more left in the series, this can go so many different way.

My biggest hope, Cercei better have the best death on TV of all time. If she doesnt die, that will suck.

Watched a lot of the marathon over the holidays.  God this show is awesome. Even fairly obscure characters are all super interesting and expertly acted.

Compare that to WestWorld, which has zero interesting characters. Even back in season 1 of GOT, it was so much easier to connect with and root for/against people

I actually hope its Arya who kills the Mountain. Perhaps that is what the "No name" storyline is about. How she is able to kill him, with a different face.

That storyline has to matter for something more down the line. If it was just for Frey, it was a waste of time.
Am I the only one who really wanted to see the High sparrow get tortured or something? King Tommen is one of my most hated characters for the wuss he was in a game of so many powerful people. Kind of shows you, you have to be a certain type of person to lead. Even Jon had to kill Ollie.

Sorry if I am talking about old stuff, just able to discuss now that I watched the last season.

Who sits on the Throne when the series is all done? They taking bets in Vegas?

Dany seems like the logical choice.  I'd like to think John ends up with her (even though she's technically his aunt) but I have a feeling he ends up making some sort of heroic sacrifice and bites the dust in the war with the walkers

My bet as well, the Hound, in his final act, will find redemption by ending the Mountain to save one of our good guys (probably Sansa).
I can get on board with that.  I read the books and always liked the hound.  He is just a tragic carrier wrapped in a brute's body.  He never enjoyed the killing.  He hated everything about everything.

Arya's vengence is her story....so her killing him would work.

I have two thoughts on direction, Cersei destroys Dany and Jon destroys Cersei after and all lose to the White Walkers. Kind of the Game of Thrones version of the Ice Age.
And the other is Dany and Jon go head to head, I dont think Dany and Jon end up together, not that family hasnt stopped love in this show before.

I don't see a path to cersei destroying dany. Based on the resources of the 2 sides, that fight should be over before cersei finishes her first glass of wine.

I could see john (jon?) having to become a white walker king to end the war.

but dragons with fire and all the obsidian/dragon-glass references probably make more sense.
