Game of Thrones, tv only, books don't exist, no backstory...NERDS already ruining a series that hasn't started (3 Viewers)

I have not read the books and have not posted their in awhile. I just got into the show early and there was no TV only thread.

Riiiiiight.
I demand a trial by combat.
I choose TRE.
Otis is my champion. He will crush TRE's head with his giant hands.
:giggles:
Tre is descended from lumberjacks that cut down trees with their cocks.

So, just like Podrick then?

I would not mess with TRE. This one time he was passed out on my floor and for some reason I can't remember I started kicking him and the next thing I knew he had me on the ground and could have popped my skull if he wanted to. Which he didn't. Or at least didn't act on. The moral of the story is don't #### with TRE. just wait for him to fall in the bathtub because he gets stuck on his back like a turtle.

:lmao:

I would pay good money to see either of those things happen.

Most of the time something is spoiled it's when a book reader is trying to help, or trying to fill something in. See the stuff early today where a book reader was just politely trying to point out a spoiler, but in confirming a non-reader's speculation as being a spoiler he actually made it into a spoiler himself.
Assuming this is directed at me, again, I wasn't confirming or not confirming any speculation in any post.

In the course of a multi line comment covering several topics, the OP said (and this is an accurate paraphrasing):

"I'm more interested in finding out what happened to/with <thing which has not happened in the show yet> instead of Varys's wizard in a box."

All I said was he should redact (I even put it in bold) <thing which has not happened in the show yet> from his post. It wasn't a speculation on his part, had nothing to do with any previous or subsequent speculation on his part, it was a straight up unintentional spoiler divulging a somewhat major plot twist that anyone who hasn't read the books or seen the spoiler elsewhere on the internet wouldn't have known about or guessed at.

So would it have been better for that spoiler to have been left out there instead of one of us book readers trying to get it removed before more non book readers saw it? I seriously want to know, because I was just trying to help the non-book readers avoid seeing that obvious spoiler. I wasn't trying to lord it over anyone with my book reading - I was trying to stay true to the intent of this thread and keep you people from polluting your viewing headspace with outside knowledge.

Truly sorry if I offended.
I missed the incident you're referring to, so I'm a little confused. Was it posted by someone who KNEW that event/plot point was going to happen or were they just throwing #### out there?
Like I said above (I edited to include the full exchange), I find it extremely unlikely that the thing I thought should be redacted would have been guessed at - it sure seemed like it was stated as fact from prior, non-show knowledge.
Then I think you did good...maybe. Here's the issue a lot of the time with book readers is that they call out things as relevant that most of us would barely pay attention to. Calling something a spoiler can actually make it a spoiler.

The biggest foul I can think of was after the whole who-killed-Joffrey episode. Whoever posted the images in the first place was an epic as@hole. Another one that I thankfully missed was after my prediction about Dany and the dragons...again, i missed it, but someone posted a spoiler related to that just because apparently someone hit too close to home.

In a thread full of people that don't know ####, calling something a spoiler is huge. I'm the kind of guy that would jump out a ***%ing window to avoid the previews for next week's show. ANY show. If I even have a hint of what's going to happen, I start building the story in my brain and literally can't stop. The most action-packed episode of True Detective was practically ruined for me just because of the still image that HBO used on their web site. I skip over posts the second I see the word "preview". I won't even look #### up on IMDB because it will say how many episodes a certain actor is in.

Think of people like me whenever you (or any book-readers) feel like chiming in.

So basically, if you know literally ANYTHING about what's coming up, don't say a thing. About anything.

As someone who is guilty of mistakenly posting a spoiler, drop the Groovus/Freelove thing. It was caught very quickly in good faith and I can't imagine the bulk of this thread even knows what it was about.

I haven't posted here since a drunken slip up but jeebus people are #####ing about a spoiler they don't even know about.

I'll go back to drinking and watching this thread from afar. PM me if you have a problem with this post

PS Hey book guys how about a PM to the offending party if we spoil something going forward? That seems pretty easy. THey can quickly delete or edit their post before you go all booky on them in front of the non book people.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot you posted a blatant spoiler thinking you were in the book thread. Now I hate you again, even though I don't really remember what it was about.

PS Laverne and Shirley was terrible!

BTW, I totally dig Freelove's posts. He's not a book reader but knows his #### when it comes to writing.

I have no problem at all with him posting in here.

I've posted quite a bit more than one time in the TV only thread.

I'm just posting to throw Chaka's data off, for when the next guy wants to convert it into a graph.

I have not read the books and have not posted their in awhile. I just got into the show early and there was no TV only thread.
Riiiiiight.
I demand a trial by combat.
I choose TRE.
Otis is my champion. He will crush TRE's head with his giant hands.
:giggles:
I would not mess with TRE. This one time he was passed out on my floor and for some reason I can't remember I started kicking him and the next thing I knew he had me on the ground and could have popped my skull if he wanted to. Which he didn't. Or at least didn't act on. The moral of the story is don't #### with TRE. just wait for him to fall in the bathtub because he gets stuck on his back like a turtle.

I'm not smart enough to do it, but can someone create a list of users who have posted in the book readers thread? Number of posts in that thread would be helpful too. I'd prefer not to know their "predictions" in this thread. TIA.

I did that very quickly, it is possible the data shifted. Perhaps you posted 101 times in that thread?

your list is all banged up chaka. says i posted 8 times in this thread. i posted 61 (now 62) times. thanks for the effort though

Never mind, looked it up.

Names of the two episodes are Watchers on the Wall, and The Children.

Hmmm.

Guess we see a big battle between Snow and Mance? Who is going to come help the Nights Watch? Cant be much of a battle with 100 guys against 100,000.

The Children? Wonder what that one is about? Do all the Stark kids finally meet up at the Wall?
The clues are there, you've just got to put the pieces together:

Watchers on the Wall

Misdirection title by the producers. Hijinks ensue when a group of Unsullied partyboys who, after hearing Grey Worm's locker room boasting, sneak off to watch Missandrei & her gals play scrub-a-dub, only to be not-c0ck blocked by Selmy & Daario.

The Children

Grey Worm reveals to Missandrei that he keeps his pillar & stones in a special little case. Fade to black with Boy George's "Crying Game" being played by minstrels.

(ETA: this thread has become way to serious. Non b**k readers, it's okay to click.)

The most action-packed episode of True Detective was practically ruined for me just because of the still image that HBO used on their web site.
As an aside, this has got to be the worst thing about HBO Go. When you click on a tv series it automatically starts you at the END of the list, which means if you're watching it from the beginning you have to scroll through all of the image previews for future episodes (which are often quite spoilery) to get to the one you want to watch. Who the heck designed that?

What I posted earlier, I posted as an example of something that has been introduced by various elements the storyline, yet still looms unresolved. I'll be happy to explain why my wife and I have been waiting for this particular unresolved hook to crop up all season if/when it occurs onscreen, or after the series is over, if it doesn't pop up -- which would make me very angry with the writers.

There are more examples than just that one, but it literally would never have occurred to me as something that everyone wasn't waiting for, if they actually watched the season surrounding the events relevant to the discussion.

I don't think Groovus meant ill, and neither did I. I guess it's unfortunate that when speaking about things that haven't already actually, visually, taken place on screen, you've got to be careful in a thread like this. I think there are certain things that the plot has made inevitable will happen on and around the Wall, I think there are certain things that are inevitable surrounding Arya, and certain things surrounding what was mentioned above. I also think there are lots of areas where it isn't at all clear where it's headed.

I bowed out of the discussion because I don't think I can enjoy the thread if I can't talk about, e.g., the things that have been strongly intimated. And I don't mind that. It's probably safer for those who aren't going out of their way to predict and project things if none of that goes on. Alas.

Last post in thread. Just don't see the need for either Groovus or I to get smeared, here. Sorry for any ambiguity in the offending post.
If you've not read the books, please go ahead and post your thoughts. I'd love to see them. I'm notoriously bad at spotting plot lines, foreshadowing and the like, so always enjoy seeing someone show their work on such things.

Did it in a hurry, post #s are probably shifted up or down a couple (61 is 2 down from yours), but those are the people who posted in both threads. So keep an eye on them.

Why? I thought the "book" thread was the original thread when the show came out. Then then "non-book" thread was started by those who didn't want book-nerds to keep giving everything away.

I can definitely say that as a book reader, multiple stuff happens in the show that I had no idea about (either I forgot, or the TV writers are expanding on some stuff a bit). I do kind of hate how they give stuff away like just coming out and saying who did what with the necklace, though. In the books, I don't think it has been stated so explicitly to this day who definitely was behind the Joffrey killing like littlefinger and the old broad just coming out and saying it right out loud.

It is kind of nice NOT to always know what exactly is going to happen, but I rather liked having to "read between the lines" to figure certain things out, just like the Necklace (hair net) murder orchestrator, or the fact that the knight of the flowers is batting for the other team.

Sure, I like discussing and reading way out there theories with others who have read ahead. Back in the day, that is all we had, after all. But I enjoy just as much reading the reactions of people experiencing these scenes for the first time. Just like I enjoy watching with my fiancee who has never read a page in her life.

But I would never post anything revealing in here out of respect. Other than I can't wait for the next 2 shows. No matter what they try and fit into the end of this season, it is going to be a wild ride.

Quit it. It's dumb and some people are taking it way too far. :snark:

Real reason for post - if I've only posted 6 times in this thread, I need to get that number higher. I think that list of posts will motivate more posting in this thread, thanks!

PS Hey book guys how about a PM to the offending party if we spoil something going forward? That seems pretty easy. THey can quickly delete or edit their post before you go all booky on them in front of the non book people.
:goodposting:

That is what I should have done. I'll do that in the future if I see a similar thing happen.

Just to analogize about the thing I was calling out, the part I thought should have been redacted was akin to someone posting "I'm more interested in finding out about what's going on with Jamie now that they've cut his sword hand off" 2 weeks before the episode where they actually cut his hand off happened.

Not a slight on Freelove at all, he's been posting good stuff, I hope he continues to do so.

I rushed that list and may have made errors (third time I am pointing this out) either way it should be an accurate list of those who have posted in both threads. Don't trust the readers.

Tyrion only lives if Cersei is neutralized. She's only neutralized in a Lannister power vacuum. For there to be a power vacuum, Tommen has to have no one to help him. Mace Tyrell is an idiot. Cersei has no real skill at politics ( she only knows venom) Jamie has no interest in power. I think it's pretty obvious what has to happen for Tyrion to survive.
Why does Cersei need to be neutralized for Tyrion to survive? Or maybe I am unclear of your definition of "neutralize". There seem to be plenty of options to keep Tyrion alive without any change in Cersei's status.

There's honestly something off with you if you feel the need to keep posting in here to give your opinion/info on the books. Its a fantasy series of books, not the Bible. Let it go.
What's the difference?
There's a lengthy thread that is for book discussions. You are only posting about the book here if you want attention or have some kind of twisted fetish for the books.
No what's the difference between a fantasy series of books and the bible?
What is none?

I'll take "Things to Piss Christians Off" for $1000, please Alex.

But yeah, I think this might be the best post in the history of the FFA.

I couldn't have been more pissed if Rust Cohle shat on my head.

Seriously, how hard is it to use a still image that doesn't give anything away? In a given episode, there would be literally hundreds of shots that you could use without giving anything away. I'm 90% sure someone was intentionally being a diick when they chose that image.

In case you don't know what I'm talking about,

The episode everything was building up to, when they found Reggie LeDeux's place out in the woods, the picture used on HBOgo (which you had to see before playing the episode) was Cohle and Hart carrying two kids out of a clearing. They gave us the ending, so all the suspense was completely taken out of what should have been an insanely intense episode.
