Game of Thrones, tv only, books don't exist, no backstory...NERDS already ruining a series that hasn't started (2 Viewers)

Here's a question I have - You know how the Red Witch is always thirsting for King's blood, right? Well, wasn't Maester Aemon the son and brother of a King? I wonder why she didn't go after his blood?
I don't want to get flayed here but...she did in the books.
cool. any other book stuff you want to share with us in this non-book thread?
Sure.

Jamie and Bronn never went to Dorne in the books.

Cersei, my favorite character, is in the worst trouble of her entire life it seems. She's not exactly the brightest bulb in Westoros. She helped the Sparrows with no idea that she would be a target of the Sparrows, although that was all too predictable. In an interview George RR Martin compared the Sparrows to the Protestant Reformation, which makes sense to some degree (although it was the excesses of the church that Martin Luther attacked, and not royalty.) For me a better analogy would be the ayatollahs in Iran who overthrew the Shah with the help and support of some of the richest families in Tehran, only for those families to discover that they too were targets of the ayatollahs.
She's been flat out dumb. Here she's the mother of the sitting king, born of incest - and she acts as if no one can have leverage over her. That poorly kept secret gets a weak king ousted sooner rather than later.
Given her own actions no one needs that leverage over her. I chuckled when she screamed "I am the Queen" as they were locking her up. No, you aren't sister. You let them take the Queen away. The only "power" she ever had was through the strong men in her life. Her father. Her husband. Her brothers. And her cruel son. We'll see if her weaker son steps up.

Why don't you post in the varsity thread? Why is it so hard to comprehend "books don't exist" in the thread title? I know that nothing you're saying amounts to a spoiler but it doesn't matter. Some of us watch the show and then read the books and don't want to know what does/doesn't happen.

Someone posted that it was odd that something didn't happen. I thought it would be notable to point out that it's a good thing to note since it was written in the book that way. As you say, it's not a spoiler, so what's the big deal?

As the show is passing the book in many respects, I didn't think mentioning the fact that books exist would still get to so many panties in a bunch. There's a whole thread about the Daredevil TV series and once in awhile someone mentions some context from the comics - amazingly it doesn't result in a bunch of whining.

In any case, a thousand apologies, I'll stop upsetting you so much.

Has there been a separate thread created that specifically notes to not talk about the comic?

And mind you, I don't even care. I read the other damn thread and search for spoilers on the web, just cause I like the story and want to know more. However, I get to do it at my own peril, and at my own liking. So when you post something about the books, while I really don't give a ####, it annoys me cause you decided I should know that.

Just don't talk about the books. It really isn't that difficult. If someone asks a question that you feel the need to answer, put it in spoilers, or PM them.

:hifive:

You don't need to try to make it out to be some sort of melodrama. It's pretty simple, there's one thread that discusses the show AND the books and another that expressly says in the thread title that the discussion therein is treated as if the books don't exist. I don't know why so many people continually fail to choose the right thread to post in.

As far as what "the big deal" is, I think I explained that in my previous post. That's only one reason why people may not want the books discussed. I don't think anything I said is illustrative of getting my panties in a bunch, I just find it baffling how many posters over the course of this thread either lack the basic comprehension skills required to determine which thread these posts belong in or otherwise get off on flaunting the fact that they've already read these books, like it's some kind of rare and unattainable feat to have done so.

I'm not even singling you out here, you're just the latest in a long line.

Just. Go. Away.

I don't think it's that complicated.

I prefer this thread because I haven't read the books. I plan on reading them, but I haven't gotten around to it. So I don't want to be confused by people referring to stuff I don't know about.

So if you're in this thread, don't reference the books. And thank you.

I hate book readers in general because every time they write "I think..." or speculate I just assume they are just talking about something that will later be revealed in the books in order to earn Cool Internet Points. When I read someone saying "I haven't read the books but..." I usually skip over everything.

Agree. I figure they will either bump it later to show how "prescient" they were or they immediately run off to the book thread to giggle about how they slipped a spoiler by us neophytes. I used to like to pop I to this thread to discuss the episodes but I rarely do any more because of crap like this.

 same as day 1.

I created this thread because even when people were trying to be helpful it wasn't helping. A non book reader would ask a question or speculate about something and someone would come along and answer the question using the books for support and it would inadvertently spoil something. Even something in the end was of little consequence but we don't know that.

Not sure what show you guys are watching but I'd bet some of you complain about The Walking Dead when there isn't much action either.

This last show was pretty darn good. Moved like six stories forward. Showed good parallels between a couple and showed how different parts of the game are being played. Makes you think a little bit as to the overall game of chess being played. Maybe that is too much for some of you.

I think the whole season has been really good, the hate surprises me.

Let's try a show only question loaded with no chance in heck type black helicopter stuff....

Is there anything we need to worry about with the fact that Selmy told Dany that her brother was a great singer and then we are treated to Bronn singing? Do we know anything about his back story that could even lead to something there?

Both Bronn and Rhaegar spent time as prominent figures in King's Landing. Surely someone there would have recognized him if that were the case.

Also aren't all Targaryen's blond?

Yeah i guess. Still. We had a nice break for there for a minute from the book fights.

Bronn isn't Rhaegar or Targaryen. Just a good singer.

I thought that guy following Brienne around was the ******* barratheon. guess not.
Whoa. So did I.
You mean Gendry? Haven't seen him since season 3.

Following the incident, Gendry is relegated to a cell beneath the castle. Davos Seaworth visits him and the pair discuss the hardships of growing up in Flea Bottom. Davos asks why Gendry trusted Melisandre, to which the blacksmith admits he's never been with a woman, so although the trap was quite obvious, he took a chance. Later on, Ser Davos frees Gendry and sends him back to King's Landing in a rowboat, the only way to discreetly leave Dragonstone, although Gendry admits he doesn't know how to swim and has never been in a rowboat before.

What if Gendry is the boy LF was talking about? I would guess he knew of the book Ned was looking at in season 1. That + Gendry = evidence for Queen of Thorns of Cersei's sins and they have no claim to the throne?

I think it is just that the bar has been set so high given that this show has been as close to flawless as any show many of us have ever seen. There have been some minor chinks in that armor this season, between the poorly done Dorne sequences, story lines that still seem to be going nowhere, some perceived lazy plot devices ie how easily Tyrion was able to talk his way into Mereen. There is also the fact that the series has gone its own direction and I believe some of the book readers seem to be disappointed about that.

Personally I think this season has been great so far, and probably had the second best first half of all the five seasons (can't beat a season that included the Purple Wedding though). The last two episodes have faltered a little bit, but overall they are setting up some fascinating story lines - Tyrion joining forces with Dany, Sansa/Ramsey/Reek, Cersei vs the Tyrells, the Ruling Class vs. the Hoi Polloi, Jon Snow's evolution into a great leader, Arya Stark's transformation, and of course an epic showdown in Winterfell.

I think it is premature to judge a season before it has concluded, and while I understand and agree with some of the criticisms, I'm still loving this series.

That's a little too Anakin made 3PO/Chewbacca knew Yoda bit of storytelling.

Where I didn't like it was in the idea that they were shoehorning the theme of relationships; primarily displaying the various relationships between loved ones. IMO, when showrunners start trying to tie a theme to every episode of a serial story instead of just naturally progressing the story....the story suffers. I'd have to go back and see if GOT has been doing this more.....but I do feel that The Walking Dead very much suffers from this.

So Margary and loras get out on the mothers mercy? Is that what they called it? and the cersi goes to trial?

The high sparrow actor has really been the only high spot in terms of new characters. His scenes have generally been pretty good.
