Game of Thrones, tv only, books don't exist, no backstory...NERDS already ruining a series that hasn't started (4 Viewers)

To each his own but in my opinion it might be in the top tier given its context.
Dont think its top tier for the show overall, but I liked it a bit better than last week since we had more time with specific characters instead of jumping around trying to get everyone in. (I realize they had to do that for a season oper and this was probably goodbye for a handful of people in the north.)

The wife remembers a scene in the past where the Knight King spares John Snow.... Did that happen? Made her think Knight King knows John is true king.

Yup. Still a lot of nothing in 2 episodes of a short season.

I bet the fight next week doesn't even finish and we are left with a cliff hanger on who survived.
Damn. If after 7ish seasons you think that was "a lot of nothing", I think you might be watching the wrong show. I realize the writing is not as top-tier as it was the first 4-5 seasons, which means the slower scenes aren't as fulfilling, but it still isn't supposed to be The Walking Dead.

Call it filler if you want, but that was the last time we'll see some of those awesome characters outside of battle. It was a very fulfilling and enjoyable episode imo. The whole thing was like the church scene in Saving Private Ryan, or the quiet moments before Helm's Deep. Best writing in an episode in a while imo.
Exactly.  My instant reaction is that this will go down as a fan favorite episodes for the series.  This was our good bye to several characters.

She’s probably thinking of that one scene from that one episode.

Hardhome
Lol

I feel like he spared Sam hiding behind a rock out in the snow once while he and army rode by....

But at Hardhome- did he spare him, or just kind of acknowledge him?

They covered pretty much everything in the war room (including their plans for their own dragons) except the undead Ice dragon. Seems important. I'm sure both sides will keep their dragons in reserve until things are desperate. Especially since the NK has a Favre rocket arm with javelins.

Eh it kinda seemed like if he really wanted to wipe them out entirely he could have, but I guess if they are totally allergic to water or whatever then they got away. She’s probably reading too much into it.

Pure guessing...

Brienne of tarts

Theon

Mormont (not lady)

Greyworm

And maybe.... Tyrion.

Eta...

Flaming sword one eye
Any other major characters going here? I think they pare down the secondary awesome characters a bit to leave the primary players for the final battle w cersei

This kind of episode or chapter or act before the big battle is a staple of storytelling.   The warriors tell their stories, sometimes make their peace, and sing their songs.

The fireside scenes were amazing in every way in that context.

I thought it was a great episode.  I think they are going to lose this battle bad and so many characters are going to die next episode.
Would be interesting to see winterfell get swamped and Cersei's new army is all that's left, but man what a waste.  Maybe if this ended like Clue and they had 3 alternate endings or something

I agree with this, although I do expect some major characters to die next week.  This idea that they "are all going to die" is nuts. No way did they set this up to just have them all die in one episode next week.

Lolz

I was thinking about the ice dragon too and remembering what it did to the Wall.

I had figured Arya's special weapon was more than a love missile, if you catch my drift.

Arya,  I think she makes a run at the night King and dies trying.

For all the fun we've had guessing.... I still have no idea where the endgame is. I can come with a ton of possibilities though.

When she trained with the faceless men she used a staff almost exclusively.  Seems more realistic than having her go to town with Needle, especially since it was "castle forged steel".

Pretty funny that Ghost finally showed up in the only episode in a long time without the dragons. It's like they did it on purpose, with all the CGI budget jokes over the years.

I had figured she'd be the one to kill him... Put on a TWD whisperers outfit and blend in.

Seriously though- I figured she kill him. But not a lot left to her story arc, other than killing cercei, and I think that has to be jamie

my wife seems to think it happened when Jon saw him get the baby from the wildling creepy guy

The wife asking about the Knight King sparing John had me thinking he backs him to defeat cersei.... For some reason that doesn't make sense.

The prince that was promised has to kill him.

It makes sense for sure.

But I was figuring her to kill Knight King or at least his dragon... Projectile makes sense in that scenario

Everyone dies, night king continues to king's landing, kills everyone, Nymeria appears out of nowhere, kills the night king and takes off his mask. Bam, it's jackin hagar.  Then he takes off his mask and it's serio ferrell.  He was there all along because the first sword of bravos Does Not Run.

Watching again..... Brienne being knighted really was ana amazing scene. The music, the mood, the way the other charecters watched like they they were the audience.... brilliant cinematography.

It was the happiest she has ever been. Its all she ever wanted. Its everything she ever wanted.

And it foreshadows her death. If this story is paralleling an opera, then she dies.

I hope not.

She’s suuuuuuuper dead. They may as well dig her grave now.

I know you enjoyed all the chit chat and characters reminiscing but keep in mind...

No talk about how they will defend themselves against the dead dragon.

Speaking of dragons, no talk if their two dragons were able to get enough food and will be ready for battle. They are by far their best weapon. Why?

It's like they focused on having a ton of people in this episode just so they can validate killing them soon but steered away from a worthy plotline.

Bad episode.
