Here is a show where we’ve seen pretty much every type of violence and brutality imaginable season after season and we love it.

But a 17 year old character  (played by a 21 year old actress) has sex (with about 5 seconds of blurry sideboob) and people are uncomfortable?

So many great scenes...this is probably a top 10 episode for me.

I know you enjoyed all the chit chat and characters reminiscing but keep in mind...

No talk about how they will defend themselves against the dead dragon.

Speaking of dragons, no talk if their two dragons were able to get enough food and will be ready for battle. They are by far their best weapon. Why?

It's like they focused on having a ton of people in this episode just so they can validate killing them soon but steered away from a worthy plotline. 

Bad episode.

I don’t get this take at all.  The show has always been about the characters.  

Aside from 30 seconds here and there moving chess pieces around on a map in some tent, the show has never been about the details of specific battle planning. 

It’s not a History Channel documentary on war tactics that won the battle of the bulge.

My favorite scenes were the opening & the knighting of Brie. I have been waiting 20 years for Jaimie to cross the goal line of redemption. 

I forgive him. 

Any future that keeps him redeemed - will be acceptable to me now. 

Of course I have preferences, but...the main goal has been accomplished.

Put me in the weak writing column.  Worst writing probably of the series.  It's like the writers are trying to carry the show by having highlighting characters with a past together - expecting viewers to geek out over the pairings.

And if you read this thread you can see that it is working.

That’s the point. We have spent 7 years with these characters. They’ve lived. A lot of them are going to die. We got a last send off. Why in the world is that weak writing?  That’s great writing. 

I agree with Frosty, but there was one instance of potential bad writing imo. 

I say potential because I am not sure if it was the writing itself, or the way it was executed. 

The scene I thought fell short, was when Tyrion repeated his joke about how he wanted to die - to Jaimie. 

I really liked the original, but this one just didn't feel right to me. When I re-watch, I might get a better understanding.

Love Gendry’s commitment to work/life balance.  Dead on the the doorstep seemed like he’d need to pull an all nighter in the forge?  Nope.  Fast asleep in a comfy bed.  The team’s got it.

Danny wants the iron throne and the seven kingdoms. 

The North/Sansa wants to keep their sovereignty as promised. 

Jon is now rightful heir to the iron throne and all 7 kingdoms, but is dedicated to the North and really never wanted a title. 

At the end Danny refuses to give up full reign, Jon doesn’t want it or want to take it from her. Danny and Jon agree to split the throne, but won’t remain together. Jon remains King of the North, while Danny is queen of the rest. And she’s pregnant with the prince that was promised who continues the the pure royal bloodline of Targaryens.

I see someone doesn't care about plot.  I think this was a very necessary episode if you are interested in the storylines.

Regarding Jamie and "getting out of it", I like the Bran ideas. 

Also, I believe that Dany may not be as harsh as many expect. 

I can't remember the source of my memory, but Barristan Selmy spent a good deal of time explaining to Dany the true threat the Mad King posed from the perspective of one of his King's Guard. 

The reason that Jamie is my favorite character arc, is the redemption angle. 

Therefore, I am really hoping that the full truth comes out, and he finally gets recognized for the good deed (killing MK) that has haunted him since. 

I don't need him to live or have a happy ending, but I want his true motivation to be revealed. The irony of the moniker King Slayer (irt it's overall meaning - not just the slayin') is big in my mind - cause he saved a city & maybe an entire kingdom with that. Even though it has partially led to the current mess irt the Iron Throne. 

Maybe that be too big a wish - but, here's ta hope.

Brienne is there, too, and if she speaks up for him, Sansa will listen imo

They've done a bit of full-circle rehashing so far this season- of lines, actions, circumstances...enough that some of its starting to feel forced.

Melisandre is definitely not done. She said only last season that she still had to die in Westeros. 

Remember how Tyrion and Varys got a whole gang of Red Priests to come preach Dany's awesomeness in Mereen? She, all those priests, and maybe the Second Sons could make a last-minute appearance like the elves at Helm's Deep. 

Based on the resurrections, the Lord of Light is a real power behind the scenes. Based on the visions to the Hound and the rest of the Brotherhood, the Lord of Light is indeed positioned against the White Walkers. It's basically now or never, it would be weird for such an important power to not play a role in the final battle in some way. 

I woke up this morning thinking about red witch and Lord of light. Given they brought back John and burning sword, both (and we knew John would- but haven't really talked burning sword) have to feature massively here...or else what's the point of all that?

I didn't think about the red priests and the rest of the order...

That look Pod gave her and her acknowledgment of it when she said she never wanted to be a knight was priceless.  I also particularly loved watching Jaime during the interactions between Brienne and Tormund.

I think it’s kind of interesting Jaime more or less burst into that open chemistry giving her something Tormund never could, really no one else could and would. She seemed flummoxed by Tormund’s attraction to her and earlier by Jaime’s respect for her. It’s complicated.

That is so off the mark for me personally.  I have the objectivity to recognize the drop in quality of the writing.  I would guess most in here lack objectivity in assessing the show.

I fully admit lacking objectivity. This story has been so much a part of my life for so long, that I am thrilled to get anything now. 

 As a result, I interpret things in the best possible light, I suppose. 

In the long run, my personal enjoyment trumps any real attempt to be fully objective. 

I understand that others may have a different enjoyment curve.

But also that's why I didn't close my eyes or walk out of the room. It was an important scene to realize she has grown up. Still doesn't make it a bit tough to watch tbh.

Yeah, basically as soon as we start getting Jaime POV chapters he became a top tier character in need of a top tier arc. This scene probably came from George.

I find this odd too.  We have seen just about every type of violence and sex we can in this show, but some odd looking CGI boob makes people feel weird?

Agree. But Jaime is still fighting for a woman. And it’s a very different kind of woman. That’s his cause. Switch that current on, and he can be a very positive force for good. It appears that has happened.

I think there were a few scenes that felt "off" to me.   You mentioned the joke and the odd beat afterwards, and I thought there were a couple odd things like that during the campfire scene, especially after Davos was around and with Hound/Berric/Arya.    Like somebody said, it sort of felt like a few times they were just trying to find every possible combo of characters they could think of since we were stuck at Winterfell, and I don't think all the parings were needed or made for great scenes.  

STILL - there were some great scenes - basically anything with Jaime (feels to me like he is doomed), I liked the Arya weapon scene, Sansa/Dany, etc.   There were also some great moments that had me laughing as well, which I personally haven't had for while.  I thought it was a very good episode of Thrones, and one of the better episodes in the last dozen or so, but I would hesitate to put it in the top 10 episodes of the series for the reasons above.

I get that, but to me it would feel a tad odd to have her show up out of the blue after 2 seasons, but whatever.   Sort of like Ghost being there this episode.
