Game Thread - Divisionals - New England V Denver (1 Viewer)

The Pats fumbled (or muffed) 4 times last week and recovered all of their own fumbles.  You can't expect that to happen every week.
That sort of luck carried the Falcons to an 11-5 season and an NFC championship berth last year.
I was wondering how they did that...

The Patriots really need to let this go...

If they keep complaining, I have no sympathy if they lose.  Really.  As bad as that was, bad calls are a part of the game just like bad bounces.  You need to let it go.
I'm sure they won't let it affect them. Just making sure they get the benefit of the doubt next time they need it.Edited to compensate for beer.

And even with that gift and the ensuing fumble, Denver is still 1 score ahead. Great gameplan, Rat. Keep it up, buddy.

I was posting this before Bill was chewing out the ref on the way to the locker room. He's got to be the leader here. Stop it. Be the coach everyone knows you are.

The league does not want NE to win again. Parity, parity, parity......c$Ck#@SUCKERS!
You don't think the NFL wants another Colts-Pats showdown? Manning vs. Brady = ratings.Bad call? Yes. Fix? No.
Agree. Anyway, it would be another Steelers-Pats showdown. :towelwave:
Den-Pitt....I don't think NE has it in them to come back. Denver's momentum is so HUGE right now. NE is complaing to the refs, and at each other....this is not the NE team of last year, or the year prior.
This one-score lead sure is insurmountable.
They are not their typical selfs this game. They are crying to the refs, and Den is just rolling up, the crowd is back in it, and NE seems to be on their heels right now.

The Pats know all about "bad bounces".............Oakland Raiders playoff game anyone? :D

TD lead + possession in the second half.
I'll bet you a dollar the Patriots also get possession in the second half.

That's great coaching. The refs are going to go into the locker room and watch that play a few times. They'll come out knowing that they owe the defending champs the benefit of the doubt.

So this is what the score looks like when New England doesn't get every call! It's about time a questionable went against them instead of them benefitting as usual to win a game.

The Broncos had a false start on the field goal that Elam made by less than a yard, but it wasn't called. I don't think it's crying, I think they're doing what anyone would do in that situation - telling the refs about it. The three calls the Pats have been most upset about were:

1) The officials picking up the sticks on 4th and 5.1 when the Broncos went offside on a punt. Belichick wanted a measurement, but the refs couldn't give him one.

2) The pass interference in the endzone that gave them 40 yards and effectively handed them a TD.

3) An uncalled false start on a field goal attempt, that would have backed Elam out of the range he showed on that kick.

Those were all game changing calls. And the Samuel interception was called out of bounds, causing them to waste a challenge.

So far, the ball has bounced the Broncos' way. Hopefully that changes in the second half.

For any NE fan to complain about 1 call(right or wrong) is just ridiculous considering how many key calls they've gotten the last few years.

Dan Marino sure is slightly built. I've got broader shoulders than that guy, and he played professional football.Maybe he's just got a disproportionately-sized head. Like Stewie from Family Guy.

I've just never really *seen* complaining adjust the refs thinking later in the game. You're the third one to refute it that way, so I'll be paying attention--because obviously, I could be wrong here.I just don't like the example this sets for your team going into the half...to me, it's saying "it's not your fault...it's the refs..." That's not going to help anything, IMO.

A "champion" would be able to overcome that "bad" call and rally in the 2nd half against a good team on the road. We'll see if the Pats can...

Halftime needs:Denver needs to keep the D pressure up, especially with Lynch, and to keep the WRs in front of them. Offense needs to be Anderson, Anderson, Smith, repeat.NE needs to get more Kevin Faulk and Ben Watson involved. Givens wouldn't hurt either. Defense needs to stack the run and force Plummer to move the ball, taking away the short passes to Rod Smith.Should be a good game, with increased scoring. 23-20 final, hopefully overtime. No rooting interest except for a good game.....

The best part of a NE rally would be seeing the Colts thump them next week, but the Pats might not be good enough to get there.

I imagine B. will have plenty for them to focus on at halftime in terms of adjustments. It'll be really interesting to see the how the coaching duel plays out in the second half.

I think it is the 6 inches of hair.

If you're a great team then the refs shouldnt' cost you a game. if you dont turn the ball over twice in 2 plays, then neither of those calls are "missed'. Were they horrible calls? Yeah. But they put themselves in the position so those calls were made.

IMO, Ben Watson could kill the Broncos. I don't really see this D keeping up with him...I'm surprised he wasn't more of the gameplan in the first half.

BB has the right to work the officials the same as every other coach does in every other sport. But I don't get #2. If the official determines that it isn't a first down, why should he waste the time to measure? I hate it when coaches ask for a measurement for a free timeout when the ball is about a yard short and there is no way they thought it was a first down.

Good first half. Two great coaches playing chess with each other. This will be a great 2nd half.Denver will not keep relying on Jake. You will see them come out in the 2nd running and running and running. They basically ran all those pass plays to just tire out the NE defense and now you will see a pounding inside and outside.Faulk hurting is a big deal for NE because they need him for the screens. This game will come down to a field goal either way.

like Bostonfred posted above, there were at least those 3 plays, all spreadout into one game is a lot more costly than the calls spread out in different games in the last few years

Toward the end, anyway, NE seemed to be keeping the TE in to help with the blitz.

I'm afraid I don't understand what you wanted Belichick to do. I simply can't imagine a coach not talking to the refs about a missed call that cost them points or possession. The fact that Belichick has done it three times doesn't mean that the refs haven't made three calls that appear to have gone very much against them. FWIW, I'm not complaining about the calls here, just trying to point out that Belichick's not "crying about the calls".

No, but I've been one...for a long time.Obviously, nowhere on this stage...so again, I could be wrong...and hence, why I admitted that I hadn't *seen* complaining adjust the refs thinking.

So, hey, enjoy the game, bud. The tactic you're using really doesn't work on me. :)

I agree with this too. If I'm a ref and realize that I made a mistake (or 2 ... or 3) it's not like I would then give calls to the other team to even things out ... you just make sure that you try to call as fair a game as possible ... which is what they would do in the first place ... which makes B.'s walk with the refs seem a little

The announcers didn't think it would have been a full yard short. It might not even have been short. The Pats had a right to know how far it was, because if it were inches, they could have attempted it, or at least tried to draw the Broncos offsides again (which is a common Belichick/Parcells ploy, but would never work on 4th and 1.5 from the 11).

I remember this one time...

Bostonfred is right. BB was not complaining about the PI call that was bogus as he left the field at halftime. The right tackle on the Denver FG team lifted his ### too soon on the FG and it should have been false start. You have 9 refs on the field standing around scratching their asses on a FG attempt and not one of them can notice that? That is what BB was pointing out to the refs.

Tough road to hoe for the Steelers on Sunday...
Tough row to hoe. It's an idiom referring to a row of the field which is particularly hard, or rock-filled--a tough row to hoe.
Don't I feel like the village idiot about right now
We also don't get French benefits :)
Don't worry about it - I just heard Dan Marino refer to a FG as a "Feed Gold".
Ben Roethlisberger is the worst thing that has ever happened to Marino's TV career.

I never said he was "crying", remember...But, IMO, he has his chance to ##### all he wants when the call happened, and shortly after. Not 15 minutes later on the way to the locker room...that's when, I feel, the team is affected by it.
