Game Thread -Divisionals-Pittsburgh V Indianapolis (1 Viewer)

The better team won today, officiating had nothing to do with the outcome. The worse call of the game was the overturned INT. Manning will just have to live with being a choker.
Manning played pretty well today. The Steelers were just better. You have to consider that Pittsburgh is something like 26-4 the last two years with Roethlisberger as the starter. The majority of their losses this year came with him hurt. With him healthy, this became a battle of heavyweights and the better team won.

Vanderjagt made one bad long distance kick. By the definition promulgated to deny that Brady choked, Vanderjagt did not choke.By my common sense definition that dictates Brady choked, Vanderjagt also choked.

So what does Vandy do now? I don't mean career wise, I mean RIGHT now? Does he go into the locker room?

If I'm Vandy, after I miss the kick, I walk off the field, past the bench, past the bleachers, and just leave the stadium without going into the locker room, and catch a cab to the airport. And go anywhere. All my stuff in my apartment? #### it, leave it for the next guy. Own a house? #### it, call a realter. That would be the last time he should show his face. Just like Kaiser Soze. . . and *poof* . . . he's gone. . .
:lmao: :lmao:

Yeah he sure choked on that FG miss.
Going for the TD before he got into field goal range probably wasn't the best decision there, especially with time on the clock. It's not like he put Vanderjagt in a good situation there.
Yeah what a terrible play having a chance to win the game, the ball hit wayne in the hands, it was just a great play by the cb... If Manning had been conservative, just trying to get a few more yards on runs or what not you would be saying he's afraid to make a mistake in a big game.

Why dont you talk about Tom Moore and the playcalling......he is the OC.
Manning has the juice audible. He's the one that threw down field twice - 2nd down call was fine. 3rd down was a huge mistake, said so before the play. They had timeouts left and definatley should have moved the chains.

Pittstain doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell in Denver ( PUN fully intended ), no way, no how...

This was certainly entertaining to say the very least...

But again, the refs win, oh and Pitt gets to play another week...
The refs win? You have to be kidding me. The refs damn near took the game away with that heinous overturn, but thankfully, the Steelers held on. The Steelers outplayed and outcoached the Colts on both sides of the ball - they deserved to win. Quit  and suck it up.

So any takers on where Vanderjagt will be kicking next year? The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (CFL) could use someone to replace Westwood :P
I am sure that an NFL team would want the most accurate kicker in the history of the NFL...call me crazy.

The real shame is that Indy should have played better, so they would not have put Vanderjack in that position. Yes, he could have tied the game there, but it should never had come down to that.Congrats steelers, looking forward to a steelers Bears rematch!!!! :boxing: :D :D

I totally agree that Vanderjagt will be gone now due to the bad blood between he and Manning/Dungy, but he is still an excellent kicker. I'd welcome him on the Dolphins with open arms. In fact, I can only hope that's how things will shake out. Mare isn't what he used to be.

The problem wasn't that he missed, a 46 yarder isn't a gimme to be sure. It was that he shanked it so badly that it was a non-attempt.

Because Manning is the real OC and HC.
See what I mean.
Did the 4 and 2 not kind of prove who is really in charge. Dungy sends out punting unit only to be overruled by Manning. And for O I bet he calls about 70% of the O plays.
My bad, and I forgot that Manning also provides his pass protection which was pathetic today.

With this loss and the upcoming offseason Indy has some serious questions to address. This season they improved their defense and appeared to play a more ball control style offense - they wrapped up home field and still lost the big game. Do they attribute that to the tragedy in Dungy's family and the layoff of playing a meaningful game? Or, is there a missing piece to the puzzle? Also, what about Edge? Do they resign him? If not, who fills the RB spot for them? I think this loss could be a huge turning point the the Manning era Colts.

it was a choke, but sorry I can't pin it all on him.. its kind of equal parts choking (by just how badly he missed it) and idiocy (from Manning and the rest of the team not fighting for more yards when it seemed clearly there for the taking), not to mention poetic justice (didn't deserve to be in the game).
Yeah hitting wayne in the hands in the endzone with the woulda-been game winning td was just stupid.. it took a great play be the rookie corner to break it up and not get a flag there.

I think a statement like this indicates somebody has a fundamental misunderstanding of how kicking is done. It looked bad, but he may not have missed it badly at all. He may have been just a tiny bit off.

Well, either way, he won't be with the Colts next year.

Manning's decision played a role in Vanderjagt's miss. The quarterback has to maximize his team's chance to win the game. That play had a chance to win the game, sure, but it wasn't a high percentage pass. Kind of like dribbling and pulling up from three to win it with three seconds left, down by two. With so much time left on the clock, and time outs, there is no question that Manning should have gotten them into field goal range before taking shots at the end zone. It's the right play. Instead, he took a gamble and missed.

If you're going to give him credit for waving the punter off, you have to give him criticism if he fails to convert fourth down. The same thing happened here.

which means he'll have a much better shot at winning a Super Bowl! :excited:

He had Wayne isolated on a rookie corner. I thought he made a good decision...it just didn't work out.

:goodposting: Congrats Steelers.

It would suck to be Vandy right now,but I cant fault him. A 46 yarder under those circumstances is no gimme. Throwing twice when you had 2 timeouts and only needed 2 yards for a 1st was stupid and made the FG harder than it needed to be.

Manning player awful for 3 quarters and the refs did everything they could to try to help him today. He was owned again today.

I hate kickers to the bottom of my heart. They don't belong in the game of football. I will heavy-handedly remove kickers from my league in 2006. I have been wanting to do it for years but did not due to annual objections by league members. This time I won't care about objections. They simply don't fit in this game. They remind me more of badminton or ping-pong players, not football.

Vandy is clearly a graduate of Scott Norwood's school of mental toughness, racks all kinds of garbage points but can't hit a big kick.

Manning's statistics weren't great the first few quarters of the game, but you have to be pretty damn ignorant to not at least acknowledge that the Steelers were getting a great deal of pressure on him throughout most of the game.

I'm a Steelers fan. I'm thrilled they won. But, I don't think Manning played all that poorly. I thought the offensive line got overwhelmed by the Pittsburgh blitz for 3 quarters. Nothing more, nothing less.

Manning can't blame anybody but himself for that loss. You can't have 1 good quarter and blame the kicker.
Please. The Colts' OL couldn't block....and the DL couldn't stop the run. Manning made some poor throws, but what QB doesn't throughout the course of a game. Manning had very little to do with the loss. When he had time to throw, he hit his targets well.

They tried to get closer on the next play it was just incomplete... you made it sound like they weren't trying to get any closer for the field goal

I think it would be different if he hadn't been having a pretty bad game, then gotten over 100 of those passing yards and James' TD after the overturned interception, then gone four and out with two sacks and a terrible hook shot pass to avoid a third, and closed out by failing to get them in field goal range with time left and time outs. In three possessions, he had three game-ending series, but got bailed out of two of them by a bad call and an unlikely fumble.

Fine. The Manning defenders who boast about their boy having total control insist this was Moore's faut.Fire Moore, and put in an OC there who has control over every play call. Make Manning accountable for anything he changes.

Idiot liquored up kicker who said that Dungy and Manning couldn't win a big game misses the field goal
Again!! Lets not forget the him missing the game winner against Miami in the playoffs.Edited to say, that maybe next year Dungy won't sit his starters for that amount of time to allow rust to settle. Also, the pass protection provided no adjustments.
