Interesting that they switched to Hanson as the holder in the second half. Cassel held for the second TD right before the half (and after his fumble), but not again.
Uh oh. The answer to this is no. Maroney in for most of this final drive, coming off the field now with his 20th carry. His first 20 carry game of his career, he has 73 yards, and looks to be done for the day. Randy Moss with one more grab, lands on the two yard line. Heath Evans in for the goal line plunge, and stopped at the one inch line. Maroney has his helmet off. After a challenge, Evans comes back in and gets the TD anyways. I think a lot of people hoped for more than 73 rush yards, no receptions, no TDs. It's only week one, so it's too early to get worked up about this, but the RBBC concerns are legitimate. I said before the game that Maroney would probably only get 15-20 touches, and he got exactly 20 in a game the Pats were way ahead on. The Pats look really good this year, so he should continue to get touches, but it's concerning that he's sharing the ball so much, and that he wasn't the exclusive goal line back. It's also concerning that Morris outproduced him on a per carry basis - Morris with 11 rushes for 54 and another two catches for 11 yards vs. Maroney with 20 for 72 and no catches. I wouldn't try to trade him right now, and I wouldn't bench him unless you had a guy like Peterson on the bench today, but it might be a good idea to shop him once he scores.Sammy Morris back in, gets his tenth rush. If the game were closer, would Maroney be in?
He was getting nice chunks on every carry of the first drive, but has looked average since.Maroney's YPC isn't so great, no? About the only negative you could hang on the Pats today.
Is Maroney really done for the day? Since I am not watching the game the only thing I can go on is what is in this thread. I really hope that Maroney is not done. I need him to score a TD or at least get 100 yards today.Uh oh. The answer to this is no. Maroney in for most of this final drive, coming off the field now with his 20th carry. Yeah, that was really sad. To see the fans cheer as soon as Clemens came in was disgusting. Lots of fans want to see the backup QB come in to play when a team is losing, but Pennington deserved a lot more than that. He's given a ton to this organization, and busted his butt to come back from two brutal surgeries to lead the team to the playoffs last year. He's a consummate team player that has earned the respect of all his teammates, but the armchair coaches wanted to see Clemens. He did shut them up a bit with the TD drive, though. That was terrific, watching him limp his way to the Jets best drive of the game. If I was Pennington, I'd have been very angry with how the crowd reacted. What was up with the Jets fans apparently cheering when Pennington got hurt? I thought Pennington played pretty well (blame the Jets front 7 for that loss not Pennington) and I was shocked to hear the cheers as Pennington was on the ground in pain.
Nothing more than the Pats using O'Callaghan as the 3rd TE on a "full house" alignment. Pats have been doing it for years with an O-Lineman as the "tackle eligible" on short yardage plays as an extra blocker on the line. Also, question for Pats fans: The Patriots made O'Callaghan eligible on about 10 plays today. Any reason for that? Nothing ever came of it, but we heard "#68 is eligible" a ton for seemingly little reason.
Single receiver sets where O'Callaghan was the only player on one side of the LOS?Also, question for Pats fans: The Patriots made O'Callaghan eligible on about 10 plays today. Any reason for that? Nothing ever came of it, but we heard "#68 is eligible" a ton for seemingly little reason.
I assume it's happening more than before because they don't have Daniel Graham anymore, who was basically an extra lineman for them most of the time. Also, question for Pats fans: The Patriots made O'Callaghan eligible on about 10 plays today. IIRC, it was max protect with 3 TE and one WR in the pattern. Just a variation on short yardage package.Single receiver sets where O'Callaghan was the only player on one side of the LOS?Also, question for Pats fans: The Patriots made O'Callaghan eligible on about 10 plays today. Must have been three TEs on one side of the field then b/c linemen on the inside of the player on the end of the LOS can not be made eligible.I suppose the TE could set just behind the LOS, but the tackle eligible means he is the "last" guy on that side of the LOS.IIRC, it was max protect with 3 TE and one WR in the pattern. Make no mistake, the crowd was cheering for him being out of the game. It was disgusting, IMO.They were cheering for him when he got up and for Clemens when he got in the game. What was up with the Jets fans apparently cheering when Pennington got hurt?
