Game Thread W1 - Cincinnati V Kansas City (1 Viewer)

CBS just showed a replay of the Green hit. Kennison tapped the defender on the back, there was no push. That my friends was an illegal hit on a sliding QB. The refs screwed the pooch on that one.
How was the defender supposed to stop himself from hitting Green? He started his motion to tackle Green at the same time Green began his slide.
Defenders know the rules. 99 times out of 100, a QB will slide. The defender has to expect that. They know a QB is a pansy. That was a cheap shot.
So the defender should have just stood there and waited for Green to slide and instead of sliding Green runs right by him.
Certainly. DBSAFIThe defender still can prepare for a hit, but not a hit to take the QB's head off.

It was a legal hit. Deal with it.

Wow, refs whistled Rudi's run down when he wasn't - it was REALLY close, but his knee didn't hit. He broke out of the tackle and started to take off down the sideline - would have been a nice gain.

LJ had just 8 carries in the second half. 17 carries is just not going to be enough. He needs to have between 22-25 at least every game. I know that they were losing when Green got hurt, but you'd think that they would start relying more on their stud RB at that point instead of asking Damon Huard to throw the ball over and over again.

KC has a week 3 bye, I'd imagine Huard or some pickup would start next week to give Green nearly three full weeks of rest, and he'd come back for the game on Oct. 1

I'd say the over/under for the fine will be $10,000. I thought it was a cheap shot, but it was a bang-bang play.

Fine or not, who really cares? I don't.

Whats interesting to me as I look at the stats is that KC OUTGAINED CIN. By the final score one might not think that. The KC defense held Rudi to 3.4 YPC and as if you crunch the way he got his 96 yards, 22 of them were on one play. I hate those type of arguments, but I am not absolving the KC defense on that TD run. Having Eric Hicks in the game was the main problem there. But even still, thats 27 car. for 74 yards on his other runs.

The KC defense didnt look that bad to me. Dante Hall screwed them on his fumble. CIN got the ball I believe inside the 20.

What killed KC were three things.

1. Jordan Black @ RT: The man is a sieve. He needs to be cut. They should start Svitek next week. KC QBs got sacked 7 times and I counted at least 4 of them surrendered by Black. There may be one or two that I missed. Hell, they may ALL be his..........What a waste.

2. Not running LJ enough. 17 carries is ATROCIOUS. LJ should have had 28-30 carries, as Rudi did. Mike Solari didnt make a very good impression as an OC. Especially bad was his call on 3rd and 5 from the CIN 11 when he settled for a Tynes FG. The time he was supposed to pass, he ran. Herm said it was a "miscommunication" in his postgame presser.

3. Dante Hall. The luster is off of this guy....every KC homer knows it, but the national media still hype this guy. He is more about juking and jiving, and less about taking the ball upfield. his fumble came because he lost focus and tried to do 2 things at once. Dante Hall hurts more than he helps now.

From watching the game without the stats, I thought we played more poorly than we did on defense. CIN was only 4/13 on 3rd down and KC won Time of Possession.

:goodposting: Not a huge point, but the difference in total yards was as much due to turnovers (as you mentioned) and difference in CIN gameplan in the second half (particularly in the 4th quarter) with the lead when the Chiefs made up most of the yardage difference, which ended up as only a 50 yard difference anyway.#2 is the most telling statement to me. LJ looked good behind a suspect line. Routinely shedding tacklers, consistently falling forward, showing great hands and patience. As you mentioned, this game hinged on two things. Dante Hall's turnover shifting field position early and the Chiefs lack of control of the LOS on both sides of the ball.As a Bengal fan, I'm still a little fussed about the two major defensive deficiencies the team still hasn't taken care of completely. Struggling to cover an athletic TE -- soft coverage in the 4th quarter or not, Gonzalez won nearly every matchup against Williams, Simmons, and Johnson. And holding against a power running game. Adams and Peko did a fine job but Brian Simmons did just okay, but there were too many missed gap assignments and poor tackling -- just like 2005. If the Chiefs had continued to pound LJ, this game could've turned out differently. Really no reason to keep dropping Huard early in the 4th quarter. But if you are, you :football: sure better put some max protection in.

Looking at some of the "better" defenses around the NFL get carved up by mediocre offenses, it adds even more confidence to my thoughts on the defensive performance.

On offense? Complete opposite, and that's a shame. But I'm excited for the defense.
