Game Thread W10 - Houston V Tampa Bay (1 Viewer)

Bucs need to just commit to the run and stick with it until third and long.

They come out and pick up a first down on 2 runs. Then call a pass, 10 yard sack. Another pass, another sack. Another pass batted down at the line, punt.

Brooks Reed and Connor Barwin with back-to-back sacks on 1st and 2nd down. Then Reed with a tipped pass at the Line. Wade has this defense playing some great football.

What a run.

Foster takes the handoff and finds two defenders 3 yards on his side of the LOS waiting for him. He does a little stutter step to make space, splits them and carries the ball for 17 yards.

Tate with a 10+ yard gain, then Tate and Foster both take a breather while Derrick Ward comes in and carries the ball for 9 yards. Another Ward carry to the 5. Foster back in.

Texans score on their first possession of the second half. Which means free 20 oz slushies at Houston area Sonic locations on Tuesday. :excited:

Can't tell very well from the TV broadcast, but the announcers saying they are watching the secondary, and the Tampa receivers are not winning the individual battles against Johnathan Joseph and Kareem Jackson.

Johnathan Joseph hits Winslow, dislodging the ball which ends up in Brian Cushing's hands for the interception.

Crap, Owen Daniels down.

Another player going down hit his lower leg it looked like.

Edit: Trainers looking at his right knee on the table.

Derrick Ward touchdown.

Edit to add: Texans seem to be mixing all three RBs pretty freely now with the game looking well in hand.

Ward? What happened w/ Tate?
Nothing, just no need to be giving either Foster or Tate all of the touches with how easily they are moving the ball on the ground. Not to mention Ward is playing his old team so they might try to give him some extra touches.Got to remember, Ward did very well backing up Foster last year. In fact his 6.3 yards per carry last year was over a half yard better than Tate's 5.6 this year. Not saying Ward is a better RB than Tate. He isn't. I'm just saying, it isn't like Ward is an unproven third stringer who doesn't have any of the coaching staff's confidence.

Foster starts out series, then Tate comes in. Tampa should have challenged that last play of the third quarter. Tate had the ball pulled completely out of his hands right as he was going down. We only had the live view, but watching it frame by frame I think the ball may have come out before his butt hit down.

I feel for Bucs fans, you guys have had a murderer's row of a schedule. Lions, Vikings, Falcons, Colts, 49ers, Saints x2 and the Bears. Now the Texans. 7 games out of 9 against teams hot in the running for playoff spots.

Bucs have been playing Lumpkin this series. He's been finding some running room as well as getting short passes.

Nice play by Jason Allen. If the ball hadn't been thrown behind the receiver, Allen probably picks that.

Next play touchdown by Preston Parker.

Touchdown being reviewed to see if the pass hit the ground. He was bobbling it down near the ground but it didn't look like it hit the ground that I could see.

Touchdown confirmed. Texans flagged 15 yards for throwing the challenge flag on a play reviewable by booth replay only.

I agree with Marv about the review penalty. While I think replay is a great thing overall, some of the details really stink. A coach should be able to initiate a challenge on a scoring play, or a play within the last 2 minutes, if he chooses. If he does so before the replay booth initiates it, then it could count as one of his two challenges and can cost him a timeout if he loses it.

Dreessen's blocking was a fail on that reverse. Had 3 guys he could have blocked and didn't get any of them.

Freeman's third interception. Threw it high but Benn got both hands on it and it popped through into the hands of safety Quintin Demps.

The other two interceptions, one was not Freeman's fault, ball dislodged and picked off. The other was his fault, defender breaking on the ball.

Texans alternating RBs every couple of plays between Foster and Tate. Tate nice play there met in the back field but got away and picked up a couple of yards.

Tate touchdown. Combination of poor tackling and nice tip-toeing by Tate. I think he's running with a little more patience than he did in preseason and the first couple of games, and it showed on that play.

Texans RBs with 5:38 left in the game... Foster 84 rushing, Tate 63 rushing, Ward 19 rushing. Each has 1 rushing TD. Foster also has 4 for 102 and a TD receiving, the others no catches.

Texans have Leinart in at QB, and Derrick Ward at RB. Foster and Tate probably done for the day.

This combination is fun to watch being a Texan fan. For fantasy purposes, Tate has been a pretty consistent RB2, especially when the Texans are playing lesser opponents (likely with the weak schedule). I love starting these two guys. That late Tate TD run was beautiful to watch :pickle:

tampa gave up
On that play, true, but I mean in general with the patience comment. Early in the year he would take the handoff at full speed and so couldn't make some cut backs that he's able to make now. There were plays he would run into the back of the tackle when the hole didn't show up, but a more patient Foster would have cut the same run all the way back. Tate's taking a little more time now and seeing those cutback lanes, and I think that is contributing to his ypc having climbed from his early games.

Yeah, I struggled with a Tate vs Beanie Wells decision this week. Ended up going with Wells as I really thought Tampa would do a better job stacking the line to limit the run. That's what I would do against the Texans with AJ out... I'd play the Oakland game plan and normally have at least one, and sometimes both safeties up in the box. If the Texans passing game beat me, fair enough, but I'd sell out to shut down the run and hope Schaub was having one of his mediocre days.

Freeman hasn't regressed.....he's just not very good.
Who is he supposed to throw to?Watch the tape on the Bucs. They have absolutely no wideouts getting separation. That's why Josh is checking down every other play. It's frustrating to watch, but it's better then lobbing it to a blanketed Mike Williams and praying he comes down with it.

I agree, they aren't. 2010 will be Mike Williams career year. Preston Parker is the best WR Tampa has. He's the only one that will go over the middle consistently. Once the luster of Williams 2010 and Benn's draft status wears off....I think you'll see him getting a fair shake.I think Tampa's full of young mediocre talents. Said that since the beginning of this year. I give credit where credit is due for winning 10 last year, being near .500 this year. But the ceiling isn't high for this team with these players IMHO

The Bucs were absolutely awful this week. While the refs did them no favors early, they consistently committed penalties at the most inopportune times. It got to the point where I was getting angry about the penalties and I'm a Texans fan. They also turned the ball over incessantly and, many times, totally unforced. They were ill-prepared for this game. I'd contend Morris is at fault moreso than any perceived talent deficiency.

It is tough to take that next step. Look at SF. They were supposed to be good last season. It just took another year. Lions too. Bucs just need to grow.
