Game Thread W11 - Minnesota V Tampa Bay (1 Viewer)

Why the hell do you call a bomb with almost two minutes left?? WTF.. Smart Chilly.. Really smart.. best player on the squad but don't think about him.. Nope.. Put it on Ferrottes shoulders.. :towelwave: :towelwave:

Ryan Cook has been dominated this game. He's making a real habit out of poor play.

Taylor just fumbled the ball from a hit from behind. Buc's ball. Game over.

Really horrible horrible play calling. Why are we trying to throw for 60 yards on first down??? You miss that and you are then forced to pass for the other downs. Oh and what happened to your best offensive weapon???

Man does that play calling just absolutely suck! This is on Chilly and Chilly only.

And a bomb to Wade - slow possession guy.I just don't get it.

:towelwave: :towelwave:

I dislike Chilly more and more each week. Enough is enough Ziggy.. This team will never win anything with Chilly at the helm.. WAKE UP!

Despite all the complaints, still almost two minutes left and good field position for Minnesota trailing by 6.
This is exactly how Viking fans get in trouble. Minny was up 13-6 at the half. Since then, they haven't scored, but they've let the opposition march up and down the field at will. Pathetic.

This falls on Chilly as well, so I'll heap on by adding that Frerotte simply is not the QB you bank your season on. There's was never any real plan to give T Jackson competition during Training Camp; they wanted him to win the job. So, you have a guy in Frerotte hired on as a bacupk QB and that's exactly what the Vikes have to carry them this season.

A professional backup thanks to Chilly and the Brain Trust.

You forgot about the part where the offensive line decided to simply let the defensive linemen through.

Short of Cedric (Couldn't cover a turtle) Griffin, the Vikings Defense has to be so tired of doing everything they can to win only to have Chilly, the offense and Special teams consistently :clyde: them.

I'm stunned. That last possession was ridiculous. Tons of time on the clock and they were running it like they had no timeouts and 15 seconds on the clock.

It is just completely dumbfounding that a nfl coach can make such horrible calls week after week and still have a job. If this team was not as good as they really are the Lions would have a win and we would be winless....

Ladies and gentlemen, let me be the first to introduce to you, your FIRST PLACE DIVISION-LEADING MINNESOTA VIKINGS!!!! :excited: :pickle:

Well, under different circumstances, that would have been an excellent post. :clyde:

Someone should have shown Childress highlights of the game the previous week when Peterson won the game for Minny. He must not have been present for that.......

Sure, that would be nice. But really, you could bring in just about any decent coach and he would be a huge improvement over Chilly.
Cowler, the Offensive Coordinator from the patriots or maybe Frazier + This FA and a WR and we will be set.
We already have a quarterback that was a STARTER at USC.
Do NOT go there.. Knowing Chilly this is what he is trying to sell Ziggy on.. 3 years Ziggy.. Give me 3 years as Booty is the man, I just need 3 years to develop him.. Just look at what I did with TJ.. wait.. never mind.. forget that part Ziggy.. but this time I'm for real!

Well, after the past two weeks, I can still reign over my family as me (Vikings) > SIL (Packers) >>>>>>>>>> wife (da Bears). :moralvictory:

Huh, reading comprehension isn't a big deal in WI, eh? (see bolded) :)

I get bragging rights, at least until Thanksgiving weekend.

2nd half carries for A. Peterson -- 6
This is what is so confusing. Let's pretend you are Childress, and at halftime your team is up 13-6. AP has been running pretty darn well, 13 carries for 60-70 yards. So what do you do in the 2nd half: A) run AP repeatedly from the same couple formations, B) run AP but mix things up with creative ways to get him the ball in open space, C) throw the ball a bunch, D) do all of the above with no obvious plan in mind?Childress has the single biggest weapon in all of football at his disposal, and that guy touched the ball 6 times in the 2nd half!!! Of a game that his team was leading!!!Unreal. Dearn Ziggy, Please sign Childress to a lengthy contract extension.Signed,Packer fans everywhere

Oh I read what you wrote. But the argument above is the phone call I got from my FIL(Packer Fan).So even though The Vikings won last week, with the Packers destruction of the Bears this week they jump to 1st place in the division..

Just don't let your family read this and you are gold.

How about the fist possession with over 3 minutes left when Wade was trying to get out of bounds when he could have fallen forward and gotten the first down is beyond me. That forced them to go for it on 4th down and game almost over...

I'd say the Vikes are as physical as any team the Bucs have played all year. But they have no QB and no coach.

Running backs tend to have short shelf-lives. They need to get a coach and a QB quick or they're going to waste this guy like Detroit did Barry.

I'm sure I'll get butchered for this, but I can't blame this one on Childress. They just got outplayed by the better team today. I still think that Jackson should be the starting QB. His scrambling will add a dimension to the offense and Frerotte hasn't played that good anyway. Hicks and Taylor fumbling are not the coaches fault - the play call to Taylor was not a bad play.

Honestly? It's Childress.

Yes I agree his scrambling would add another good dimension to the offense, however I prefer a qb who can throw the ball rather then one that can't if scrambling is what you want then I say just put either Taylor or Peterson in in the wildcat formation....I am guessing either of them can throw better then TJ and I know they can run alot better...

I agree that the fumbles and other player execution are not Childress's fault. However these things are his responsibility:Personel Aquisition and development - clearly it is his fault that he did not properly assess Jackson's readiness to start - He yanked Jackson by week 4??? How is that going to develop a young QB? If Jackson was not ready his answer is GUS!? Really botched this one. The Vikings need another cornerback also. We aquired 2 safeties but no corner? We have also grossly over paid for Berrian and the former Giants TE.Game plan - We run the cover 2 defense. A variant of what Tampa Bay does. We should know the best way to attack this defense is with physical play against smaller defenders with a power running game 1st and foremost. Traps, draws, screens and misdirection plays also work well against a defense that is disciplined but overpursues. We opened the game with 3 pass plays. Did not establish the running game even though it was effective whenever we used it and did not use enough of the aforementioned plays in our game plan to catch the defense off guard.Play calling - This is a weekly problem. The offense does not establish a rhythm because of penalties (something that is coachable also) and poor timing. Why do we have AD and Chester (who is a talented RB capable of starting for many teams) if not to be able to string together long successions of plays that are primarily run plays? Too often they seem to try to use the pass to set up the run. That is not how this team is built and plays into the teams weakness rather than its strength.Halftime adjustments - I don't know if this coaching staff knows what this is. The Vikings consistently get outcoached especialy in the 2nd half of games when the opposing team makes adjustments and our staff does not.I am just a football fan. I am not a coach. But this coaching staff does not seem to understand these basic ideas based off of how they conduct business.

I agree with your first point about Childress unquestioning commitment to Jackson and Frerotte. The lack of scouting for an alternative quarterback burns me up. I, however, think it was absolutely necessary for the Vikings to overpay for Berrian. The year prior, the Vikings attempted to pay market value for Kevin Curtis and lost him to Philadelphia. The rumor was that the Vikings offer him a better contract but Curtis preferred to play for a team that was a clear contender. This year Berrian was clearly the best WR available on the market. If the Vikings didn’t pay him the Raiders would have. Obviously, it is a lot cheaper getting a wide out in free agency than by trade. The Detroit/Dallas trade for Roy Williams proves that. There was a lot of love sent out by the Vikings’ faithful for DJ Hackett, Javon Walker and Bryant Johnson but these guys have been virtually non-existent for their respective teams. You may not like Berrian but I don’t think the Vikings get wins over New Orleans and Detroit without him. I don't blame Berrian when Childress or Frerotte don't include him in the game plan.

The least impressive aspect of the Vikings is there special teams. I know they have been rocked by injuries but the adjustments have not been made especially in the personnel department. Not only are they horrible at covering kicks but they are not threat to score on any of their returns. Hicks has no moves in arsenal. Straight into his blocking line every time. I thought he was a liability long before his fumble today.

Why the h@ll would the Vikings...oh never mind. What's the point. Honestly, they didn't deserve to win last week either. They're lucky Crosby missed the field goal. A lot of talent on this team but the QB position and HC are killing them. I can't get down on Gus because he's a backup and is performing like one. I mean they were given a gift when Bryant missed his last field goal and they squandered it.

Someone mentioned bringing in Cassel next year. There was talk this morning on the radio about NE slapping the franchise tag on him.
