Game Thread W11 - NYG @ JAX (1 Viewer)

Somewhere, Phillip Rivers is smiling right now.
Let's be honest... Rivers is in a VERY comfortable and SAFE scenario with D's keying on LT2.Let's put Rivers and Manning on the Texans or Browns.... and I'm not an Eli homer, but I'll take Manning. Rivers has a Big Ben thing going on here...How's BigBen looking now? I'm sure I could search this board for the Top 5 fawning over Ben at this point last year.

Umm...I respectfully disagree but let's leave it at that. Plus it was Eli who wanted to go to NY so...

The ring he wears is pretty big.

Rivers may have thrown more passes in the last three games than Big Ben had in his entire rookie season. To compare their situations, where Rivers has lead a laudable passing attack and Ben handed the ball off, is wrong. Rivers has been nothing short of incredible so far this season and to discredit what he's done is also wrong.

Anyway, I'm liking what I've seen from the Jags so far.

Good point, LT2 is a definite advantage for Rivers. Manning does have Barber, Shockey, and Burress around him though. I expected Manning to have big year but I haven't seen it yet. I never thought Big Ben was a top QB, he just did enough to keep Pittsburgh from losing. Ben's performance this year could be attributed to his near fatal motorcycle accident and then having his appendix removed. That has to be rough on anybody.

yeah... and Cedric Wilson and Dan Krieder have a ring too... history and all commentary has shown that it was a playbook designed to have Ben not lose the game. He certainly did his best (despiteh some bum calls) to try and lose it.

Manning's accuracy isn't there, and hasn't been in the few Giants games I've watched this year. You're implying Tiki and/or Jacobs can be ignored. They can't.I'd take Rivers.

Um, Eli could have had LT2 as his RB.
If anything, Rivers provides a spark for his team. Eli looks like a zombie.

Actually.. Ben has 12 TDs and 17 INTs... Eli fares better statistically, as well as the Jints record... but this thread is on the game... if you Curtain homers want to debate , PM me offline, back to the fourth qtr of Monday Night.

Eli doesn't seem to have "IT", unless you count standing on the sideline with a deer in the headlights look on his face "IT". Rivers would be rallying the troops where Eli seems to have given up. And I don't buy the Rivers has LT excuse, last time I checked Tiki was one of the leagues leading rushers.

So it appears Tiki is getting removed on third downs no doubt due to his bad hand. This is major news in PPR leagues for owners of both Tiki and Jacobs.
Tiki is only the 1st and 2nd down back. They've been taking him out on 3rd down every time this year. This isn't news.
I'm going to have to disagree with you here. Tiki has been the 3rd down back all year long. Jacobs has spelled him on short yardage and goal-line, and he take a series from Tiki about once or twice a half. This is major news if Tiki is no longer the 3rd down back.

Oh God... I HAVE to chime in now. You guys are making Rivers out to be Favre-like... he's benefitting with 4TDs/game from LaDananian. Have we yet to see River carry the team by himself. Tiki has been shut down tonight. So you are telling me Rivers would deftly avoid that rush, on the road, on what has become one of the tougher places to play in recent years. Either you are bitter NY fans, or clueless.I can't recall a game this year, that RIVERS WON. He's had some decent performancces... but LT2 could be the greatest RB of this decade. Hell, a decent portion of Rivers stats have been screen passes to LT2. He's also got the #1TE.... and how has Gates fallen off... how has he not utilized Gates. Brees had 3,500/25 last year... and judging by this thread... Rivers is clearly better than Brees. Laughable.

Stats don't always tell the story. 2 ints yesterday were receivers tipping the ball to the D. 2 ints this year were bombs at the end of the half. Basically prayers. He has had a couple of bad games. But right now, he looks a lot better than Eli.As for this game, Jax looks like a team that if the WR's can learn how to catch will be like the Ravens in their Super Bowl year. And the Giants, who I thought might make a push for the Super Bowl...not looking so good.

If he's so good running that foundation, and he deserves accolaides for it, send him back to do it full time. Please. And take this entire staff with him.

Laughable.
Well, not just judging by this thread, but judging by his statistics....Rivers is actually going to end up with 3,600 and 24 with 7 less INT. He is also on pace to pass every season Ben has had, and is obliterating Eli's completion percentage (Eli's best is 52%, Rivers has 67% as of now [Eli has 59% this season]).Just saying.

That aside, I'm really hoping the Jaguars can just get some consistency out of Williams or Jones. As a fan, it's hard to watch games slip away because of a lack of even average receiver play.

As for this game, Jax looks like a team that if the WR's can learn how to catch will be like the Ravens in their Super Bowl year.
The Jags are too schizo. Remember, they lost to the Texans...twice...this year.
:bag: Actually, if the wideouts catch some balls in that second game instead of tipping them to the D they likely win. Their D is really good, even though they're missing a few guys. If the O can get going, they'll be trouble for any AFC team.

This is true. Rivers looks and sounds like a natural leader. Eli Manning appears closer to curling up and crying than rallying his troops.

Yea I think Eli has a lot of good quarterback physical skills but sometimes he just looks like a confused little boy out there. Rivers has looked a lot more in command right out of the gate than Eli ever has. Could Eli grow to become a better leader? I think he can. But under the lights of the New York media, this could be hell for him.Shut up about the Irish Joe!!!

Been sitting on needing half a yard or a catch from Tiki for the last two drives. His last run of -1 put me behind :wall:
Sorry, man. They completely forgot he was on the field tonight. Not sure why the were panicking and felt they had to pass on every down when down by a mere 6.

thank you... back to my original post... why did Coughlin toss the clipboard into the trash.. and try all these different passing schemes.... I understand at first to try a few things on a couple series.. but at least try a few different running plays... lordy.

The official NFL.com and CBS Sportsline scoreboards are crediting Paul Spicer and the Jacksonville Defense with a fumble recovery on the Eli Manning fumble with 9:04 left in the 3rd...which was eventually overturned due to a penalty on Jax.

http://nfl.com/gamecenter/playbyplay/NFL_20061120_NYG@JAC

Anybody know if there's a reason for this? Eli is not being credited with a lost fumble, and the line on the play-by-play even calls it "No Play". My season is riding on this play - I win my game if there is no fumble, and I have a great shot at the playoffs. If it's ruled a fumble I lose and am eliminated from playoff contention.

"3-6-NYG34 (9:04) (Shotgun) E.Manning sacked at NYG 18 for -16 yards (B.McCray). FUMBLES (B.McCray), RECOVERED by JAX-P.Spicer at NYG 18. P.Spicer for 18 yards, TOUCHDOWN NULLIFIED by Penalty. PENALTY on JAX-R.Mathis, Illegal Use of Hands, 5 yards, enforced at NYG 34 - No Play."

Thanks,

KD

These teams were drafting #1 and #4.The list of crappy teams did not include many more than those two teams. That's a really shallow poiint - both teams built their teams around their young QBs. Rivers had LT, Eli has Tiki.Tiki and LT have flip-flopped the yards from scrimmage leading spot the last three years.

Ever consider that the reason LT is getting into the zone so much is a QB efficiently running his coach's offensivce system versus a QB in Eli who is NOT - he is a deer in the headlights, his decision making is horrendous, he is missing his receivers, he is forcing the ball into triple coverage - triple coverage means SOMEONE ELSE is running in man to man coverage, and Eli is not reading it properly.Drop the excuses, and sack up - Rivers is playing football better than Manning.

It sounds like you haven't seen a Charger game recently. Catch a game if you can -- they've been pretty exciting lately. :thumbup:And yes, Rivers is clearly better than Brees.

Regardless, this is a Rivers verus Manning debate, so . . .

Either one. I'm a big Drew Brees fan. He's one of my favorite players. But Rivers has a quicker release, he's more accurate, he has a stronger arm, he is much better against the blitz, and he's got all of Drew's intelligence and leadership qualities.Drew's having a great year, and both QBs should make the Pro Bowl. But Rivers is the guy I'd want if I had to win a game. (Their adjusted yards per attempt is pretty even -- Brees at 6.95 and Rivers at 6.94. They are also pretty close in passer rating -- Rivers at 99.7, Brees at 95.1.)
