Game Thread W14 - Baltimore v Kansas City (1 Viewer)

Its playoffs and im going against the LJ owner, im hoping the Baltimore Defense steps up...and i hate saying that.

best case scenario chiefs win without LJ and baltimore shuts down the run.....is this possible?

anyone think the wind (14-23 mph) will effect the kicking of Stover enough to bench him in favor of Rayner? playoffs on the line. thanks.

Baltimore playing almost anywhere else, I'd give the edge to them. But KC can beat practically anyone at home this late in the year. Should be a very good game today.

This is when it pays if you are an LJ owner to have a first round bye. I wouldn't be confident if my team had to slug it out with anyone this week. Baltimore is a tough draw for any runningback.

Chiefs waste a good opportunity on their first drive after a Dante KO return almost to midfield. A couple of nice 3rd down pickups by Green on the drive but a drop that would've been a first and a Tynes miss of a makeable FG makes it all for naught.

Ravens doing a good job stopping LJ early on and actually get on the board first, thanks in part to a nice McNair to Mason hookup.

Now the first offensive mistake by KC. Ravens bring good pressure and Green tosses a wobbler off target that Ed Reed picks. Deep in Chiefs territory.

Chiefs stuff Balt twice inside the five and the Ravens settle for another Stover FG. Big missed opportunity there that could come back to haunt them. I think KC will eventually put some points up.

There's Trent's second turnover. Suggs comes around from behind and strips him just before the release. Stops a good looking KC drive at the 30.

Oh, there goes LJ finally breaking off a big one, 50+, plus a personal foul tacked on the end. Crowd's back in it, Chiefs at the Ravens 30. Big turnaround in a low scoring game.

First half thoughts: except for one play where he got away, Ravens have done a very good job stopping LJ. More importantly, the pass rush has bothered Green into 2 picks and a fumble and appears to be getting stronger. A big play could happen here if the KC line doesn't pick things up better.

On the other side of the ball, Balt is having little luck sustaining drives, though McNair has hooked up with Mason, Clayton and Heap at times. Jamal is busting no big first down runs. Third quarter has belonged to the Ravens this season, they'll need that trend to continue if they're gonna pull out a win at Arrowhead today.

I hate monopolizing a conversation; I just figure few are getting this game. I'll shut up and go away if somebody asks. :)

predictable play calling by KC on third and 6. BAL has a poor DEF so you've got to let LJ run some of these 3rd and 6's to set up the pass.

Agreed that KC's offense is pretty vanilla today but the Ravens do not have a "poor" defense by any measure, statistical or otherwise.

Earlier this week there was a thread speculating about the Ravens D matchup. Midway thru the 3rd, they've got a shutout, four sacks, two INTs and a fumble recovery. That scores pretty well in my league.

Uh oh, that might be a gamebreaker. Chiefs blow a coverage and McNair hits Clayton for 87 yards and a score. Takes LJ and the crowd out of it, at least a little, and puts the pressure on Green and the passing game. They'll be a-comin'.

** Not looking serious **

BUT...

LJ has been on the sideline having his forearm looked at by a trainer. Bennett has got a couple plays since.

:holding breath:

##### the Chiefs offensive coaches, horrible OL and Trent Green.

LJ would have 200 yards without such a horrible supporting cast.

It ain't like the Ravens are slouches on defense. :) This is a solid team they are playing. Helps keep perspective.
Of course. But that doesn't really excuse the O-line playing so bad, Trent Green choking and the wideouts dropping so many balls. The only perspective I have is that when LJ doesn't touch the ball the Chiefs are a terrible offensive team.

1-10-KC 11 (4:46) J.Lewis left tackle to KC 7 for 4 yards (G.Wesley, K.Mitchell).

2-6-KC 7 (4:03) J.Lewis right tackle to KC 2 for 5 yards (K.Mitchell).

and.....

[edit]

3-1-KC 2 (3:15) J.Lewis up the middle to KC 1 for 1 yard (G.Wesley).

54 seconds of possession for the Chiefs in the fourth quarter.

Only reason LJ doesn't, and won't, have 150+.
The Ravens just went on one of those grinding drives that win games. Started at their own 14, rammed in a TD (Lewis) and took nine minutes off the clock.

Big big win for the Ravens. Against a team in the playoff hunt and in Arrowhead where no one has won in December for 10 years. LJ got his 100 yards but the Chiefs' rushing attack never dominated and sustained drives, at least when the game was in doubt.

I agree with others who have pointed out Baltimore's flaws but they will indeed be a tough out come playoff time.
