Game Thread W15 - San Francisco 49ers at San Diego Chargers (1 Viewer)

Got 28 points from Rivers in one playoff. Going against SD Defense in other with their 7 points and impending shutout (10 points). They also have V Davis. with his one catch.

:blackdot: VD 1 for 9 yds now. Ironically still worth 0 in my random cbs league 1 pt per 10 yds (no decimals :lmao: )
I got some bad news for you. It's half that:(6:31) (Shotgun) A.Smith pass short right to V.Davis to SD 10 for 4 yards.

Remember this game next year when you overdraft VD. Unless they make a deal to move up and get Luck, I'd avoid VD at all costs. :blackdot:
He was the #2 TE in my league coming in. #1 was Gates who has scored the same number tonight.

Playing against Westbrook and Tolbert, LT2 also. Two stupid touchdowns for these two when neither should have been in the game :blackdot:

This year, staying away from the "elite" TE's has saved me. Guys like Winslow, Pettigrew, Heap have been good enough and much better value than the plethora of elite TE's that flamed out.

Apparently not. What I saw was a catch, fumble, then crossed over the pylon during fumble and never regained control.

LOL at Justin Smith claiming (at least according to the sideline babe) someone shoved him in the back and he turned around and shoved back before he saw it was a ref. The ref was right in front of him the whole time.

OK. I guess if you played the right one every week you were golden. All three have had dud games and all three are well behind Davis in points.

Just because the ball moves does not mean it is a fumble. On the initial hit, it moved, but Jackson had it pinned between his two hands, not moving, as he crossed the plane. Because he had already established possession before crossing the plane, it was a TD at that moment. Whether or not the ball come out afterwards is irrelevant.

I'd have to watch it again to see for sure but I'm talking about the people comparing that play to Calvin Johnson's or other catches. No comparison.

Correct. He may or may not have lost the ball before crossing the goal line, but either way it has nothing to do with the Calvin Johnson rule. Completely separate situations.

Good job Chargers! Great game by Rivers and Jackson as well as the SD defense. They have about a week and a half to get healthy and then they visit Cinci. Let's hope for mild weather, at least as mild as can be in late December. I'm already having visions of Dan Fouts and Kenny Anderson.......please no.

Vintage Alex Smith. Niners face some bad luck and the team implodes. But you can not shut this kid Smith out. He may lose 7 out of 10 games, but no one can stop the King of Garbage Time from doing enough to arm his surprising amount of supporters with all the ammunition they need to blame the OL/Defense/WR/OC/HC/fill-in-the-excuse-de-jour. I hope the next time fans feel the urge to boo him, they'll chant "Fi-re Sing" instead. He's the one that forced us to sit through another round of Alex Smith.

He was holding the ball with 1 hand when he crossed the plane.

You could have had Brady ay QB tonight and you still get blown out.

In every game, there are a few early key plays that go overlooked by the typical drunk fan. It's much easier to say "Alex Smith/David Carr/Joey Harrington, etc. suck" than analize each situation these highly drafted QBs find themself in.

In tonight's game, during an early SF possession, Smith threw a perfectly placed 20-25 yd. pass to Delanie Walker, who promptly dropped it. Instead of a first down, good momentum and perhaps a scoring drive, the 49ers were forced to punt. Then Smith continued to play well on the next possession, and ended the drive by scoring an apparent TD on a nice, athletic run. When the play was overturned, a typically awful, conservative run up the middle was stuffed and you could just see the 49ers totally deflate afterwards.

Alex Smith has certainly strugged throughout his career, but little things like this can make all the diference to any QB.

This won't stop all the "bust" talk, but this kid has the talent to thrive in a good situation.

Flamed out? Don't pat yourself on the back too much. Gates is STILL #12 in my league in WR/TE scoring combined. That's with 4 missed games and one where he got hurt in the first quarter. Finley - out for the season early. Clark - out for the season early. V. Davis - 2nd for all TE's going in to tonight in my league. Even with the QB mess. The big 4 would have had a huge gap on the next tier if not for injuries - unless you can predict them of course...

He had it in the palm of one hand with the side of his other hand pressed against it, which is what I meant by him having it "pinned between his two hands".

That's just not what I saw (repeated slowmo views), didn't look "pinned" it looked like "the ball was touching his hands but losely rolling and falling out of his hands aka a fumble" but oh well, game over, doesn't matter.

 A game like this BEGS for more/better/WIDER camera angles. Whine all you want about a check down, but every (severely limited) view I did get of his receivers showed them blanketed. Doesn't matter who's playing QB...when a four man rush consistantly reaches the QB in just under 3 seconds...it's gonna be a long day.Smith needs a new team, with real coaches that stick around more than a single season. (Six coordinators in 6 years? WOW. Yeah...let's blame the QB)

This must be both of your first Niners' game because if you'd been watching the last several years, you'd realize these excuses are as tired and as common as blaming the "Sun in your eyes." No one is saying Alex Smith is the sole problem with the Niners. But I think it is abundantly clear at this point he is not a winning leader. He normally does not kill the team when the players around him are winning the game (although here, you can look at his team-killing mistakes in Atlanta, for example) and he does very well in garbage time when the team is down by 2+ scores - that's the time when Alex Smith will drive down the field against prevent defenses and get you a meaningless score or two. But when the team is down by a score and the game is within reach, he is not the guy you want under center. I'd be more than happy if he went to the Eagles next year where you can watch him "thrive" and carry your team to the Superbowl. You know what, I'll even be praying for that to happen. :)In fact, the irony is that you're an Eagles fan. Alex Smith would not last 5 weeks as the QB of the Eagles, let alone 5 years.
