Just ugly, terrible game for Denver. The only bright spot was the defense for Denver.
Let's start with the obvious--the missed facemask call was huge. Denver would have had the ball 1st and goal. With this type of game, that call was a game breaker. He grabs Tebow's head, even if you don't see the facemask, you can't go to the head of a QB at all. How many penalties have you seen for ticky-tack calls when a d-lineman accidently brushes a QB's helmet as he passes by on a rush? Just no excuse there for the refs to miss that.
The later PF against KC for going low on Tebow was clearly a make up call.
The play calling for Denver is a joke. I mean, the fans are used to the run into the middle calls, but the start of the 4th quarter--3 straigt runs while you are at the 50, was just head scratching. Even Simms said that you have to give the QB a chance to pick up a first down.
Tebow was beyond-poor today. Throw out the Buffalo game and the NE game, his play making was clearly a "don't lose the game" performance. This was his worst game I have seen from him--period, But that being said, you have to run some quick out plays to give your QB a chance. Every play call is a 20 yard play--no WR screen. No quick outs. He is a sub-par passer at this point, so give him the easy. You attempt 9 passes and then in the last 2 minutes, you say go out and win it Tim with your arm. I am the furthest thing from an NFL QB, but if you put me on the field and ask me to complete a pass, I have probably a 15% chance of hitting the 5-7 yard variety vs next to nothing on a 18-25 yard one. Give him the 5-7 yard pass.
McGahee played his heart out today. Decker did not. His catch on 3rd and 8--he catches the ball and just runs out of bounds and doesn't even stretch the ball out to get that extra yard to get the first down, is not excusable. Matt Willis drop was right in his hands there at the end.
I am happy the Broncos are in the playoffs, but honestly, what does it matter? It is a hollow victory and honestly creates more questions than answers. I am a die-hard 42 year Denver fan, but I doubt their chances next week.
