Game Thread W17 - New Orleans V Chicago (1 Viewer)

Yet another Saints game thread with no Saints fans participating. (Maybe Mr. Martie?)

Colston out with a hand injury. Though he toughed it out with his chest contusion and ripped Chi in the first half. Ah well.

Why do people kick to this guy?
Why do punters as a general rule don't have the sideline/coffin corner kick in their arsenal anymore? The FOX guys made a point to say Weatherford practiced sideline kicks all week - why not practice them every week?

Pierre does look like a keeper...

These last two games against teams with much to play for have been great for Bear fans. This team still has the ability to dominate...now that the defense is sort-of healthy...and Orton has shown he has NFL talent. I think they pick up where they left off in '06 come '08...

Orton should have been ROY in 2005.

I've rarely seen a defense hit as hard as the 2005-2007 Bears. Some of it's personel, sure, but some of it is emulatable scheme and coaching.

Saints fan - I figured this game would be like this. The loss of McKenzie is simply huge - Saints can't stop the deep play to save their lives. Chicago should be throwing it up every other down.
Really, really disappointed in the Saints this season -- injuries or not. I am fearing that the Payton era will be a carbon-copy of the Haslett era -- great year 1 buys a bunch of subsequent mediocre-to-poor years.

I was having those feelings too, but really, Brees is such an incredible improvement on Brooks I can't see the same thing happening again. As long as Brees is there, the offense will be at least good. The Haslett era team had continuing issues on both sides of the ball.

Not that it matters now ... but was video evidence conclusive? Still looked like a catch to me .... or at worst I couldn't rule a catch out (couldn't tell the shadow of the ball apart from Patten's black glove -- looked like it could have bounced off of Patten's glove).

Replay screen in stadium shows ball hitting ground before Saints receiver caught it.

Crowd roars in unison.

Challenge flag gets thrown immediately as crowd roars.

Zebras whistle as ball gets snapped.

Ladies and gentlemen, your instant replay system.

Saints Problems

1. Losing Deuce

2. " playing " with R.Bush too much .... rather than having " running " plays they were always so caught up with trying to get BUSH his touches

3. the defense is horrible ... they need another CB possibly two now that Mackenzie is turning 32 off a torn ACL

Saints played much better once Bush went out .. they started to play Stecker / Thomas and started to run and throw and now waste time with always trying to get " BUST " / BUSH into the offense

whenever the Saints lose COLSTON the offense comes to a stop !

I am also disappointed. They are a pretty shallow team right now - take away a couple guys and there's big trouble. And for the love of Pete please upgrade the CB position in the offseason. That starts with ejecting David, ASAP.

You forgot the PygmyMarmoset curse.

the T.B loss was the END to be honest ...

Saints just need to seriously have TRUST in what works

Pierre Thomas and Aaron Stecker " worked " as normal Rb's .. use Bush as a very very good 3rd down Rb ....

upgrade CB

lets see what they have in R.Meacham next year to go along with Colston -- Patten was a nice pick up for this year .. will be still be ok next year - 1 year older ... who knows .. if so .. ok . he is a good # 3 or # 4 Wr ..

say goodbye to D.Henderson ..... and T.Copper

see where Deuce is next year ... but dont expect another wonderful come back and if he does .. he really will only be good enough for a goal line type Rb ... they need to commit to a every down Rb .. and the name is not BUSH

Not a bad game for the Bears fans. A win, big plays from Hester and the D, and a local boy making good for the other team.

How hard is it to gameplan against the Bears?

1. DENY HESTER THE BALL

2. Kneel down at the end of the game for the victory

Heartbreaking that the Saints couldn't do the simplest thing. Kick the ball out of bounds or kick it to the other side of the field that Hester is on.

If there are any positives at all to draw from this game, maybe this will force Coach Payton to pull off the blindfold and replace some of his friends that he's hired for coaching positions. The defense needs a major overhaul. I've been pleading this case to Saints fans for two straight years now and maybe they'll finally listen. The Linebacking corps are slow and unathletic, but smart. If the play is right at them, they usually make the tackle. The defensive line is talented, but stupid. If the offense needs a stupid penalty, taunt the line into committing one. If you need a tough yard on 3rd down, throw some misdirection at them and watch them trip all overthemselves to follow the play instead of the ball. The defensive secondary....they've been horrible all season, outside of McKenzie who had an average year. McK did exactly what the Saints asked of him this year. Over on the other side, it's either a case of Jason David, Roman Harper and the rest of the fun bunch not being able to play or simply being put in the wrong scheme. The secondary was constantly out of position, and the firing of the defensive backs coach should have come at 3:15pm today. Having the Sunday Ticket allows me to watch all the other teams, and it was my experience that the Saints secondary was easily the least prepared and easiest to fool on play action in the league. This defense needs a shutdown corner in the worst way, and it was obvious that the Saints defensive scheme assumed that Jason David was a shutdown corner. He's not.

It's just frustrating to watch the Saints make the same stupid mistakes each game and expecting a different outcome...and then looking startled as to why it didn't change. I did see Coach Payton finally run down his coaches and make them account for what was going on in the field.

Note to the Saints OL: Your QB is 6 feet tall if he's standing on a Guttenberg Bible, so if you see a defensive lineman jump in the air, you HAVE to smack that guy down. Help your QB out with some passing lanes. Again, this is a product of coaching. This is the easiest thing to dril into their heads all week, every week.

It is time for the Saints to clean house on the defensive side of the ball. This includes changes to the defensive scheme and coaching staff. It includes admitting that Jason David and Brian Simmons were colossal mistakes that need to be purged.

I'm just so frustrated an angry right now. This game was a microcosm of the entire season. Every stupid mistake you saw today was made throughout the season.

I'll close that this team just has no heart. There is talent here to be sure, but every "must win" game the Saints had this year was a dud. The Saints were one play away from tying the division against Tampa, but they found a way to lose. There is no "will to win" on this team. I didn't see anyone outside of Coach Payton that looked particularly upset with losing this season. That needs to change, because the Saints fans are some of the best in the world and they deserve better than they got this year.

Watching the Saints stroll up to the line of scrimmage and WATCH THE PLAY THEMSELVES on the replay screen was mind blowing. I was YELLING at the TV, hoping that somehow it would initiate some kind of 'hurry up' reaction from the Saints. ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGG
