Game Thread W2 - New Orleans V Washington (1 Viewer)

I loved the 4-and-2 call.
Me too. Gutsy. A slant is the obvious pattern in that situation but they had Porter on his heels the whole 2nd half. Zorn made adjustments to take advantage.I wish I could say the same about Sean Payton who is IMO probably the most overrated coach in the NFL.

Can't wait to hear the Skins homers on the radio thinking the offense turned a corner today. You won't get to play the JV squad every week.

:kicksrock:

Considering the 'Skins offense looked like the Frosh squad, I'll take a win over a JV squad this week as a sign of improvement.

Yeah, Skins don't deserve any credit for making those runs, catches or passes today huh? :scared:
I've been watching both teams for years. Trust me, this was more about the Saints being terrible than the Skins suddenly being good. Better than last week, yes, but you won't play such a poorly coached, talentless assemblage of "defenders" every week. That's all I'm sayin.

Saw the Saints today; didn't see last week's game or much at end of last year; few questions for those who have seen them:

re: the running game - what % of the issue is the line? Two years ago Deuce looked great. RB hasn't done anything and Thomas didn't look that good today; just trying to figure out is it the line or rb (I guess both, hence the % question).

Does Payton over coach/get to cute some times or does he have to because of the inability to run

thx.

it's hard for me to imagine a more poorly coached game. the good news is that we have him signed to a 3 year extension. yea!

The line is terrible at run blocking. AWFUL. I think being such a pass-happy offense takes the aggressiveness right out of them. Deuce looked great 2 years ago because he understands how to run behind a line like this. He knows how to make his own holes. Saints are gonna need him because none of the other backs can be depended on to pick up the tough yards.

Actually, it's a 5 year deal...

this is what i don't get. he's maybe the worst playcaller. offensive genius and/or guru is a total misnomer in his case.

They were pretty bad at it today. And top top that off Bush was sent many times into the middle of the line, greeted by his O-linemen who were being pushed backward. I know very little about Payton but that was just stupid. If you want to run the middle, use Deuce. Let Bush run wide where he will sooner or later break one.

Sounds more like bitterness at the Saints than an assessment of the Redskins.
If you think that, sure. Countless seasons of hopelessness can do that to a man. However, I live in DC and understand Redskins fans (present company excluded, of course) - a win like this will prompt Super Bowl predictions.

It will among the crowd leaving the stadium, and the crowd over at Extremeskins, sure. But most regular fans know this team's nowhere near Super Bowl caliber at the moment. This game was just one step towards learning to win in a new system, and learning to win relying on Jason Campbell. Within that step there were a lot of individual steps made the last week by Washington --- deeper drops for Campbell, quicker reads by Campbell, passing on 2/3 of 1st downs, running lots of play action, using more different receivers (9 in the NO game), better o-line blocking. They need to take a lot more individual steps like that to continue winning games. The good thing is they made a lot of progress in one week, including the coach who called a much better game and the QB who made the plays that had to be made.

Exactly. I was happiest to see Zorn making the adjustments needed to win the game, a complete turnaround from last week where it looked like Gibbs 2.0 was still calling the plays. The game was by no means perfect, but a HUGE stride over last week.

 I've maintained that a 2-3 record in the first five games would be a good start for this team under the circumstances if the team wanted to position itself for a wild card run in Zorn's first season. The chances of that happening weren't looking good last week after that first game, but this game encouraged me that they may improve enough to allow that to happen.

You guys got the power running going again to the Left. Everything left.
"This is working. Let's keep doing it."Very simple coaching strategy that Zorn apparently has learned.

Well, looks like I was wrong about the Skins.
