Game Thread W2 - Oakland V Denver (1 Viewer)

Old habits...

2-15 DEN47 (2:01) PENALTY on OAK-J.McCown, Delay of Game, 5 yards, enforced at DEN 47 - No Play.2-10 DEN42 (2:29) PENALTY on OAK-C.Green, False Start, 5 yards, enforced at DEN 42 - No Play.1-10 DEN42 (3:11) J.Fargas right tackle to DEN 42 for no gain (N.Ferguson).

and the point goes right over your head.. why dont other teams give backup rbs carries at the goal line unless the starter is hurt/winded? you give your best rb goal line carries because you want to score!!!
No, the point goes right over YOUR head. Denver *DID* score. Maybe if Shanahan ran Sapp 4 times and he got stuffed 4 times, you'd have a legit complaint, but as it stands, Shanahan wanted a TD, called one play, and that play scored a TD. That makes it a pretty damn good playcall.Shanahan knows a hell of a lot more about runningbacks and offenses than you do. The sooner you accept this and let it go, the sooner you'll calm down and start enjoying life again. Besides, it's not NEARLY as cut and dried as you seem to think it is. Who are the best goal-line RBs in the NFL? Maybe Tomlinson and MBIII? Well, Turner got 3 carries inside the 5 yard line last season, while Julius Jones had 8. No matter how good you are at the goal line, your backup is going to steal some carries. Period.
How about giving Henry A shot at it instead of Sapp? your right you and shanahan know more then all the other coaches in the league..
He never said Shanny knew more than all of the other coaches, just more than you. But I guess it is easier to shoot down words you attribute to him rather than what people actually say. And now you went and made me defend SSOG, so none of us are happy.

Elam misses a 45 yarder. Crud.
Why does he suck so badly this year?Is there something wrong with him?
Sample size issues down? He's only attempted 7 field goals this season. Field Goal Accuracy is ridiculously unpredictable from season to season, simply because of the abritrary nature of the kick (it's either good or it isn't, there's no shades of gray for ALMOST misses and EXTRA good kicks), combined with the sample sizes that you usually deal with. The important thing to note is that Denver's offense looks like it's for real this season, which means Elam's going to be getting a ton of attempts. If his accuracy winds up below his career average, it probably won't matter much for fantasy purposes.
Some leagues subtract for misses, so it will matter for fantasy purposes in many leagues. Making half your attempts just doesn't cut it in my book.
Like I said, it's a small sample size. Elam's not going to finish the season with a 57% accuracy rate, I can promise you that. His career low is 72.2%, but even if he hits that low, he should get enough attempts to still maintain his status as a top kicker.
How about giving Henry A shot at it instead of Sapp? your right you and shanahan know more then all the other coaches in the league.. I am done talking to you.. that will do more towards making me have a good day and enjoying football..
Again, this is like Cutler throwing a 50 yard TD pass to Stokley and saying "why didn't you throw it to Walker, since he's the deep threat?". Shanahan called a play and it worked wonderfully, so it's pretty hard to second guess the decision. Maybe if Sapp hadn't snuck it in, Henry would have gotten a turn. Maybe Sapp snuck it in because the defense does hold him in as high of regard as Henry. The "why" of it is pretty irrelevant, though- Denver called a running play, it scored a TD, so it was a good call.Besides, it's not like Henry isn't going to get a goal-line carry this season. It's week 2. Like I said, all I'm asking for is a little bit of perspective here.

One of my biggest complaints about Cutler. he wants to make a play so bad, but if the play is not there, throw it away.

Denver is letting them hang around....

I have to say, safety or not, I think that was sweet reward for Warren. I don't think Denver handled the Warren situation very well this offseason, and he's a much better player than people give him credit for. I know I'd much rather see him in Orange and Blue than in Silver and Black.

I am not impressed with this Denver team at all. They'll be the worst 0-2 team in the league if they wiggle this one out today. They'll get smoked by SD, Indy, NE or Pitt in the playoffs

The "idiot kicker" Elam's misses are going to cost this team a few wins this year.

I know he made a game winner last week, but if he didn't miss a couple earlier he never would have put his team in that position.

Warren seems to play great when he's motivated (either for a contract or playing his old team).

Ummm, Denver won last week. Or do you mean 2-0?

Or also when he doesn't have turf toe on both feet.

You're not impressed by the fact that, through 7+ quarters of football, they've given up 170 total yards of passing (125 net)?

Denver has 12 men on the field for the 2 point attempt and Oakland still converts. Denver completely imploding here this half.

It's nice the Raiders are hanging around and such, and the offense is certainly improved, but this defense can't rely on tipped passes and turnovers. They haven't stopped anything this year. They look like the Bengals D a few years ago, that had a million turnovers. Lack of pass rush is shocking.

I was just thinking the same thing. Denver's suffering from a lot of non-predictive plays going against them so far this season. How can you outgain a team by 300 yards and only win by 1 point? How can you average 6 yards a rush and 8 yards a pass while holding the opponent to about 50 net passing yards and still be down by 3?

This Raiders lead is more about Denver tripping over themselves, and less about the Raiders producing. On the bright side, last years team would have been done in the 2nd quarter, but it's brutal to see the Raiders move the ball, and then the other team tear off chunks of yardage.

Not necessarily about Oakland tripping over themselves as much as a series of low-percentage-plays all going Oakland's way. How many times a year does an onside kick work? How many times a year does a pass get tipped then returned for a score? I'm not saying Oakland doesn't get credit for the gutsy playcalling or their ability to capitalize on fortuitous circumstance, I'm just saying, that's a lot of "non-predictive" plays going against Denver. As I type this, Cecil Sapp gets another clutch short-yardage carry. I'm sure Travis Henry owners are ready to kill themselves right about now, just like how Mike Anderson owners were selling him for pennies on the dollar after Ron Dayne got a key 4th-down carry against San Diego in week 2 a couple of years ago.

No. Shanahan is a genius for giving the game important carries to the back up. :football:

Actually it was not a traditional onside kick , the broncos were giving them a 15 yard cushion and were dropping straight back into the wedge. This is a no brainer for almost any nfl team as they had almost 20 yards to the nearest Bronco.

Another "money drive", another huge series of targets for Walker. 3 targets and a rush for Walker on this drive, and still counting, despite the fact that he's lining up against a GREAT CB in Asomugha. Where's HK when you need him?

And Mike Bell gets a carry. I wonder if Henry owners have even bothered to note that he has 115 yards on the day, or if they're just kicking themselves for drafting him still.
