Game Thread W3 - New England V Pittsburgh (1 Viewer)

If anyone thinks Dillon was benched for Faulk, they're wrong. Faulk is a better fit for the kind of offense the Pats are forced to use. Heath Miller with a big catch and a great effort for first down - hit by two defenders and ran while one of them held his leg. He's not getting a lot of looks, but then again the Steelers haven't had a lot of offensive plays, and just 12 passes so far. By the way, Roethlisberger is now 5 of 13 passing for 150 yards. That includes an 85 yarder to Ward and a 49 yarder to Randel El. 4th and 1 in the red zone. Cowher brings out the kicking unit. The Steelers take advantage of another huge mistake by the Patriots.

He might be a better fit if he could hold onto the ball; as it is he is a definite liablility.

Um, OK. So he was benched for Faulk just on offense.

Corey Dillon back in, runs for 8 yards to the left behind rookie first rounder Mankins. Dillon runs again to the outside, and has good speed to pick up the first down and then some, but it's called back for holding on Deion Branch.

Shawn - Dillon's back in. He was never benched. Faulk played during a two minute drive, where Dillon actually had the first carry drive, and has played sporadically throughout the game. Dillon with another run, his third of the drive.

Branch atoned himself for the holding with a big third down catch. Another third down, this time a bad play by Givens. Brady had Givens wide open, but Givens fails to read that the coverage has him deep and Brady throws a comebacker. Brady looks livid. Finally, a nice special teams play by the Pats, downing a punt at the 5.

Just foolin' with you. The way you stated it, it sounded like he was benched for the game (but not really benched). I don't think that anyone expects Faulk to take over in a full-time role.

Again, Parker uses his leg strength. The name fast willie parker really doesn't give him credit for his ability to move the pile. I don't have him in any league, and this is the first time I've seen him for a full game; color me impressed.

That was all Belichick right there. He knew that the Steelers like to do that in that situation and got the players ready for it.And Tim Dwight makes a huge run.

Of course, just after I say that, the Pats stop Haynes for one on third and two. Tim Dwight with a HUGE return on a long punt, getting the Pats to the thirty.

for two of the upper tier teams, they both sure are playing sloppy

Brady's pressing. The Pats can't afford another turnover deep in Steelers territory. He should be trying to pick up yards, but he went for two deep passes instead. I don't like those play calls at all.

Give the two defenses credit, especially the Steelers D.
Just because it's a low scoring games does not mean it's due to great defenses, more like the offenses on both sides has been terrible. Throwing in triple coverage, throwing back passes to EL, etc is not acceptable. Very sloppy.

At least the crowd is out of the game. That has been our greatest strength the past 4 years. To bore the fans to death and get them out of the game.
LOLAs a fan of the Browns when Belichick coached here in Cleveland, believe me I know what you are talking about.

Take that play by Ben, rolls out and misses a wide open guy. That isn't good defense but bad offense.
that play yes, but both Pats turnovers in the red-zone were the product of good opportunistic defense, not inept play.

Ben has made a lot of questionable descisions today. That is what happens when you play a Belichick defense. You either don't think and they take advantage of your tendancies, or you think too much like Ben just did and miss the easy stuff. Also great catch by Cedric Wilson. I thought that might have been an INT.

Yeah...he wasn't forced out of the pocket and being chased....he was cool as a cucumber in the pocket and just botched the throw....Seriously?

Yes. Had it been Randle-El, that play would likely have not been made.I'm a Ced Wilson fan.

Roethlisberger eludes a first down sack and throws the ball away. Cedrick Wilson with a huge catch for what appears to be a first down, muscling the ball away from a near interception. Randel El had better be careful. Roethlisberger finally brought his completion percentage back up to 40%, and now he's back under 40. Aside from two huge early passes that were mostly YAC, he's looked awful, running away from coverages, throwing the ball far away from his receivers to avoid pressure, and throwing several interceptions that were dropped (including another one right there by Seymour, and the one that Wilson ripped away from the D back).

He wasn't even in the grasp when he threw it, come on.

I feel like I'm watching John Elway when Ben runs around like that in that he is impossible to tackle. The difference is that Elway always seemed to be at his best when the play broke down. He would either scramble for a million yards or always hit the wide open guy. Its when Elway had to be the pocket passer that he started goofing up. Ben just kinda gets rid of it and of course is not as speedy.

Did I say he was?? Please tell me you don't think he's more comfortable running around for his life. Why is he running around?? Defense is making him.

He is right-handed and running to his left. Can't expect accuracy in that situation.
