Game Thread W8 - NY Jets v Cleveland (1 Viewer)

I already agreed about the bad call in the endzone.

But as far as the rest of the ref conspiracy stuff :ptts: the refs like most games made bad calls for both teams.

Awful call on the refs part. Im a Dolphin fan who hates the Jets, and that call made me mad as hell.

Just terrible. If the game were in NY it would have been called a TD.

That needs to be changed,
I don't think it ever will be.Refs probably accept being corrected on all the typical replay calls and all but this is so much about judgement and nothing else, I think they'd bark. Remember the NFL doesn't want every play reviewed and/or to be perceived as second guessing their refs. There's a fine line there
Fine. Then, like I said, they should be told to err on the side of the call that CAN be overturned (i.e., call it a TD on the field).Like others said, watching the replay it looks like it would have been HARDER for him to land out of bounds without the hit than landing in bounds.

I'm glad the post-game press conference with the players, none of them are complaining about that call. Mangini's done a good job of instilling in them the attitude of focusing your energy on what you can control, and that's more important in the long run than one call.
:goodposting: That's our job to complain :)

Just to quantify, the Jets played badly, and up until that last call, probably deserved to lose. the run D was non-existant in the first half, all of a sudden Pennington is throwing wounded ducks again, Hobson/VonOlenhofen are freakin terrible against the run.... but we knew this team had big holes.... and I understand homer ref calls, to a point. BUT....That Baker play was an absolute joke. Can't wait to see what that head NFL ref tool has to say about this one on NFL network this week. He should be a White House spokesman.... but even they aren't as full of chit as he is. The ref did NOT have sex with that DB! I had to call a WMD penalty on the Jets there! The refs from that game should all be thrown into a wood chipper.
:lmao: Rovers, your the man when it comes to the Jets and I'm usually with ya 100%, I'll even give ya my vote for the Woodchipper.... But, I'm not sweatin' this one much, to me it's a Rebuilding year for the players to learn and there was a lot to learn yesterday.Hopefully when this team is more mature and ready for prime time a call like that will go the other way and propel us to another level (you know like the Pats)..... They have 2 weeks and then they get smacked with Chicago and New England. Just maybe they work that much harder and steal one of those games to make up for it!!!!!And hopefully the Refs and the NFL will learn a bit as well...Besides I've been so High on Nyquil this weekend, I could barely even get a peep out. ;)

Bad call? Maybe. But the Jets got whooped, period.
True, the Jets were thoroughly outplayed, and should never have been in the position where they needed a miraculous play to tie the game. And the way they were playing, they may very well have lost the game in OT.But still, to have the refs decide it on a very questionable call is unacceptable.

I think they need to change the push-out rule entirely. It's silly that a game can be determined by a "judgment call" from refs who aren't going to be in a position to make any sort of judgment, and then exempt it from the replay rule entirely. If the NFL rules had a lot fewer judgment calls, it would be a much better game and we wouldn't be having this sort of argument every single year.

If I had my druthers, I'd eliminate the pushout rule entirely. To keep some balance, I'd also change the rule so that only one foot needs to land inbounds. So a legal catch is possession plus one foot inbounds, period, never mind what the defense does or does not do. Simple, clean, easy, and no "judgement call" required.

What would have been acceptable?
1. Reviewing the play from all angles like technology today allows you to do.2. Ruling the play a TD like all of America knows it should have been.3. Let the players decide who wins and loses by batteling it out in overtime.HTH.

1. It's a JUDGMENT call. It CANNOT be reviewed. Not sure how many more ways that can be said.2. :own3d:3. :ptts:

i think the Browns have been jacked enough times, it was finally their turn to "get away with one."

happens every week in the nfl.

Not that it helps now, but I imagine this will be changed in the offseason
but how? He didn't have the chance to land inbounds with the ball so it'll always be a judgement call. If you mean, all 3(or 4?) refs get under the hood and offer their judgement and that's the judgement they go by...OK I could roll with that. It's just, well the basis of the play is that it didn't happen and would it have so it's always gonna be a judgement call

Is WFAN interesting or annoying about this topic this morning? I'm sure it's the topic

man I miss that station

Agreed - you'd never know whether he landed, but they should expand the scope to allow replay to give a better look at it. It sure looked by their body language that the refs weren't that confident in the decision.

That was an awful call.

That said the Jets played (until that drive) an awful game.

But it makes this no less an awful call.

Can somene count how many completely blown calls that have screwed games so far this year. There has to be a ton, I feel like I've seen this very thread with different team names quite often.

I miss Jetstoday.com, remember that site?

Glad to enlighten a few on the streaming - just started a few months ago. 1050 ESPN local has been streaming for a year. Could never get it at work so I would sit in my car on big Jet talk days for lunch - now I can just sit at my desk - its great!

As for JEt messgae boards - not sure what was listed here but the bds at Jets insider and Jet confidential.com are both great.

and btw - the JEts did get hosed yesterday - yes they played lousy but how many good team do only to steal a game at the end. Jets were denied that by the refs on a terrible call. As stated previously - most big name players get that call - guess Chad has a way to go!
